My Unforgettable Dragon Boat Festival
Recently, my Chinese friend Li Hua invited me to celebrate the Dragon BoatFestival, which is a traditional Chinese festival falling on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in honor of Qu Yuan.
During the festival, excitement filled the air. Li Hua’ s mom soaked glutinous rice, and his grandmother prepared bamboo leaves. When making zongzi, I was clumsy at first, but with their patient help, I managed to wrap a few. Later, we watched dragon boat races. Drums beat, teams paddled fast, and boats flew across the water. Everyone around us was shouting and cheering, and I couldn't help joining them, which was so thrilling!
What an unforgettable experience! Not only did I felt the warmth of Chinese family, but also gain a deep insight into traditional Chinese culture. I'm looking forward to more cultural adventures here!

Paragraph 1:
Then, he bought a small cage and kept Lucky in it. In the beginning, Lucky seemed fine inside it. He believed he had made the right choice to keep Lucky close and secure. However, as time passed, things took a turn for the worse. After a fully recovery, Lucky wanted to spread its wings and fly in the sky. When all its attempts failed, what Lucky could do was sitting inside the little cage and squawking sadly.Several days later, Lucky refused to eat and drink. Worried and confused, he didn't know what to do about it.
Paragraph 2:
Knowing the bad situation, Albert's parents decided to help Lucky and their son. They told their son, “If you really love Lucky, you should think of how to make it happy.” After careful consideration, Albert opened both his heart and the cage. Lucky was released and flew away. Two weeks later, a wonderful thing happened: Lucky returned, flying around Albert and chirped happily, seeming to say thanks to him. This had happened from time to time since then. Ins tead of losing a forced friend,Albert had made a permanent one.

根据文章第四段“To keep the projects going, Ben created a Facebook page andwebsite to support their projects. Their Facebook Page “Helping The Community Of Malmesbury”currently sits at 669 members and is a place for all the locals to share what litter
picking andcleaning up they have been up to. Ben also managed to sort funding through local

Wohlleben's idea is this: do nothing about trees. Stop
toyingwith them, thinking that we can deal with climate change better than nature. 不要再摆弄它们,别总认为我们应对气候变化能比大自然做得更好)”以及最后一段“If we don't learn to do nothing about trees, they will eventually be alone
anyway——but without us.(如果我们不学会不干预树木,它们最终还是会孤独存在——但那时我们已不在) ”可知, 书中建议让树木自然生长, 不要去干预它们, B 选项“Leaving trees alone.(别去管树木) ”符合文意。A 选项“Using renewable energy.
climatechange.(应对气候变化)”,文章强调的是在应对气候变化方面不要过度干预树木;
根据文章第一段“If we don't, our Rome will burn. (如果我们不这样做, 我们的罗马将会燃烧) ”以及最后一段“If we don't learn to do nothing about trees, they willeventually be alone anyway—— but without us. (如果我们不学会不干预树木, 它们最终还是会孤独存在——但那时我们已不在)”可知,如果我们一直摆弄树木,不尊重自然规律,最终世界会遭到破坏, 人类也将面临灾难, C选项“Our world will be destroyed. (我们的世界将会被破坏) ”符合文意。A 选项“We will be our own rescuer. (我们将成为自己的救星) ”,与原文观点相悖; B 选项“We will be alone without trees. (没有树木我们将孤独) ”, 表述不准确,不是简单的孤独,而是世界会因人类对树木的不当行为而被破坏;D选项“Thecapital city of Italy will burn. (意大利的首都将会燃烧) ”, “Rome”在这里并非实指意大利首都罗马,而是象征人类的世界,所以该选项错误。故正确答案是C。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Trees learn from their past harms and produce younger
onesprogrammed with those lessons. They change the rate at which they feed themselves with sugarsolution through root networks. A选项“They stopabsorbing water. (它们停止吸收水分) ”, 文中未提及树木会停止吸收水分; B选项“They lose all their leaves.
根据文章第四段“Cut them down and burn them and you' re letting off carbondioxide not just from the wood, but also from the forest floor. Broadleaf trees are not" harvest-ready" at 200 years: they are teenagers.

Then, he bought a small cage and kept Lucky in it. In the beginning, Lucky seemed fine inside it.He believed he had made the right choice to keep Lucky close and secure. However, as time
passed, things took a turn for the worse. After a fully recovery, Lucky wanted to spread its wings and fly in the sky. When all its attempts failed, what Lucky could do was sitting inside the little
cage and squawking sadly. Several days later, Lucky refused to eat and drink. Worried and
confused, he didn't know what to do about it.
Knowing the bad situation, Albert's parents decided to help Lucky and their son. They told their son, “If you really love Lucky, you should think of how to make it happy.” After careful
consideration, Albert opened both his heart and the cage. Lucky was released and flew away. Two weeks later, a wonderful thing happened: Lucky returned, flying around Albert and chirped
happily, seeming to say thanks to him. This had happened from time to time since then. Instead of losing a forced friend, Albert had made a permanent one.

The hedge (树篱) over the pathway near here has become so overgrown that I am planning to cut it back myself. Would you like to help out ”

Elon Musk has offered a prize of $100m for the best carbon capture(碳捕捉) proposal. It can save his committee a lot of time. The money should go to Peter Wohlleben, whose book The Hidden Life ofTrees was an encouraging bestseller of 2015. Wohlleben's idea is this: do nothing about trees. Stop toying with them, thinking that we can deal with climate change better than nature. If we don't, our Rome will burn.
The Hidden Life of Trees argued that trees are social. It shows that they can be our rescuer. But it's terribly hard to let ourselves be saved. We think we can be the authors of our own rescue. Of course, there are things we could and should be doing, but in terms of forestry practice, often what's considered as part of the solution is part of the problem.
Anyone who has planted a tree in their garden knows that it has a far-reaching effect—— it makes your garden cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Forests cool by transpiring (蒸发). If there's no water, there's no cooling. Drought can kill trees fast, but trees have many ways of dealing with it, and Wohlleben sets them out. As a species, we have survived many climatic changes by changing our behavior— and that's how trees survive, too. Trees learn from their past harms and produce younger ones programmed with those lessons. They change the rate at which they feed themselves with sugar solution through root networks.
Forests can take in greenhouse gases effectively as long as they live. Cut them down and burn them and you' re letting off carbon dioxide not just from the wood, but also from the forest floor. Broadleaf trees are not " harvest-ready" at 200 years: they are teenagers. We must interrogate comforting expressions such as " renewable energy", and learn the real cost of our toilet paper.
If we don't learn to do nothing about trees, they will eventually be alone anyway—— but without us Wohlleben brilliantly and readably shows us how urgent and how hard it is to do nothing.
28. What's suggested in the book
A. Using renewable energy. B. Leaving trees alone.

The emergence of de-inking printers represents an advancement of printing technology and paper recycling, addressing one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. For decades, traditional printing processes have been linked to substantial paper waste, with millions of tons of paper being consumed annually-often used just once before being thrown away.
The innovative de-inking printer operates through a combination of advanced technologies. Using an advanced sensor system, it first identifies the presence of in k on the surface of the paper. Subsequently,a high-intensity laser(激光) is precisely directed to target and vaporize (汽化) ink effectively, removing them without causing any damage to the paper fibers.
One of the most remarkable advantages of this technology lies in its potential to reduce overall paper consumption. By enabling the reuse of printed materials through effective ink removal, it significantly reduces the demand for newly produced paper. This shift not only preserves natural resources but also plays a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions associated with the paper production.
From an economic perspective, the adoption of de-inking printers presents long-term financial advantages. Although the initial investment in purchasing and installing (安装) the printer may be relatively high, the long-term savings from reduced paper and ink purchases can be substantial.
However, the widespread adoption of de-inking printers is not without its challenges. The technology requires further improvements to enhance de-inking efficiency and ensure that the quality of recycled paper meets industry standards. Additionally, there exists a significant barrier in terms of user acceptance: many individuals and organizations are used to using new paper and may be reluctant to recycled alternatives, even when they are of comparable quality.
In conclusion, the de-inking printer stands as a ray of hope for achieving a more sustainable future within the printing industry. With continued technological advancements and growing environmental awareness, this technology has the potential to transform the industry, contributing to a more eco-friendly and resource-efficient world.
32. What is the de-inking printer aimed at
A. Recycling the used ink. B. Producing recyclable paper.
C. Improving the printing speed. D. Reducing the waste of resources.
33. How does the de-inking printer remove ink from paper
A. By adding chemicals into the ink. B. By combining sensors and lasers.
C· By converting paper into new materials. D. By using laser to burn letters on the paper.
34. What prevents the broad application of de-inking printer
A. It can only be used with special ink.
