75-year-old hip-hop (街舞) grandma Stephanie Walsh has gained worldwide attention with her intense dance moves and incredible energy. Better known as “Ms. Stephanie” online, Walsh has been featured on social media accounts with some videos drawing more than 11 million people to watch.
Walsh believes the videos gained popularity because she is 75. “It’s because I’m a senior,” said Walsh. “You don’t usually see someone my age doing hip-hop and moving like that. ”But actually, it’s more than that. Just as her profile claims, Walsh’s videos are “inspiring the world to dance like no one is watching. ”
“Dance isn’t just your body, it’s what you’re feeling inside about the dance and it’s what comes out here in your face,” Walsh said. “What I want to put through my movement is how much fun it is and how much joy it gives you.”
From a young age, Walsh loved to dance but her family didn’t have the money for classes. When she was nearly 30, she got her daughter ballet lessons, which her daughter hated. So, she took her daughter out and started classes herself right away.
Walsh believes her lifelong passion for dance is what motivates her today. “Everybody has to have a passion in their life,” she said. “It’s like that saying, ‘A life without passion is a life half lived.’ I believe that.”
Walsh dances for fun and fitness, but also for therapy (心理治疗). She struggled through countless hardships, and she has more than enough reasons to keep her down. But they don’t. She turns to her faith, her friends and of course, dance, to shine as an inspiration to those around her.

What makes the little old ant think he can affect the life of an African lion Researchers say it’s more than just high hopes. In a study, a team of scientists reports that a tiny and seemingly harmless foreign ant species is changing tree cover in an East African wildlife area, making it harder for lions to hunt their preferred prey (猎物).
The study, which includes research over three decades, comprised a combination of hidden camera traps, collared lions tracked by satellites and statistical modeling. In the latest study, however, scientists say the arrival of a foreign insect known as the “big-headed” ant is setting off a chain of events that has resulted in a shift in hunter-prey behavior that may further jeopardize populations of lions — a species already close to endangerment.
The big-headed ants are small but greedy hunters of insects, destroying colonies (群) of the tree-protecting ants but not defending the trees from the larger animals. Having lost their bodyguards, the acacia trees are being destroyed by elephants. The lions, which are ambush (伏击) hunters, rely on the tree cover to hide before attacking zebras. Kay Y.Y.Tam, a psychology researcher, launched the study after noticing herself — and pretty much everyone else — swiping through online videos. On average, they skipped eight times — but reported feeling more bored and less engaged when they watched the single video. Participants had a similar experience in another similar experiment.
“I’m convinced that switching, when it comes to videos, is not a good idea if the goal is to have an enjoyable experience,” said Erin Westgate, a professor of psychology. “Sitting and toughing it out is likely a better choice.”
The new findings add to a growing body of evidence that boredom is on the rise, despite a world filled with content we can access at all times. People who are bored often turn to their phones, only to feel more bored. Swiping on social media has also been linked to increased feelings of boredom.
Boredom can motivate people to explore their environment and to stop investing time in an activity that has little to offer. However, if we rely too much on quick escapes, it would be like an animal jumping from tree to tree in search of food without staying long enough to see if a tree bears fruit. 75-year-old hip-hop (街舞) grandma Stephanie Walsh has gained worldwide attention with her intense dance moves and incredible energy. Better known as “Ms. Stephanie” online, Walsh has been featured on social media accounts with some videos drawing more than 11 million people to watch.
Walsh believes the videos gained popularity because she is 75. “It’s because I’m a senior,” said Walsh. “You don’t usually see someone my age doing hip-hop and moving like that. ”But actually, it’s more than that. From a young age, Walsh loved to dance but her family didn’t have the money for classes. When she was nearly 30, she got her daughter ballet lessons, which her daughter hated. So, she took her daughter out and started classes herself right away.
Walsh believes her lifelong passion for dance is what motivates her today. “Everybody has to have a passion in their life,” she said. “It’s like that saying, ‘A life without passion is a life half lived.’ I believe that.”

What makes the little old ant think he can affect the life of an African lion Researchers say it’s more than just high hopes. In a study, a team of scientists reports that a tiny and seemingly harmless foreign ant species is changing tree cover in an East African wildlife area, making it harder for lions to hunt their preferred prey (猎物).
The study, which includes research over three decades, comprised a combination of hidden camera traps, collared lions tracked by satellites and statistical modeling. It illustrates the complex web of interactions among trees, ants, elephants, lions and zebras. The change begins in the acacia trees in the Ol Pejeta Nature Conservancy. The trees are historically protected from leaf-eating animals by acacia ants, a species of ant that nests in the trees. In return for their home, the ants defend the trees from large plant eaters, like elephants and giraffes.
In the latest study, however, scientists say the arrival of a foreign insect known as the “big-headed” ant is setting off a chain of events that has resulted in a shift in hunter-prey behavior that may further jeopardize populations of lions — a species already close to endangerment.
The big-headed ants are small but greedy hunters of insects destroying colonies (群) of the tree-protecting ants but not defending the trees from the larger animals. Having lost their bodyguards, the acacia trees are being destroyed by elephants. The lions, which are ambush (伏击) hunters, rely on the tree cover to hide before attacking zebras. Less tree cover means lions are not as successful at ambushing their prey.
“Oftentimes, we find it's the little things that rule the world,” Todd Palmer, an ecologist, said. “These tiny foreign ants showed up maybe 15 years ago, and none of us noticed because they don’t bother big animals, including people. We now see they are transforming landscapes in very small ways but with disastrous effects.”

“Digital switching” is a term refers to the modern habit of swiping (刷) through and fast-forwarding online videos. Researchers from Canada did some exploration of it.
Kay Y.Y.Tam, a psychology researcher, launched the study after noticing herself — and pretty much everyone else — swiping through online videos. This behavior was connected with the “Boredom Feedback Model”, a theory she had published in 2021. Boredom, she proposed, is rooted in attention shifts. These shifts often occur when there’s a gap between how engaged people actually feel and how engaged they want to feel. The unpleasant emotion can develop when a situation lacks novelty or meaning.
“As digital switching involves frequent attention shifts, I wondered how this behavior might influence our feelings of boredom,” Tam said.
In her study, more than 1,200 participants, many of them university students, first watched a single video for ten minutes. They were then presented with seven shorter videos, with the option to skip to the next. On average, they skipped eight times — but reported feeling more bored and less engaged when they watched the single video. Participants had a similar experience in another similar experiment.
“I’m convinced that switching, when it comes to videos, is not a good idea if the goal is to have an enjoyable experience,” said Erin Westgate, a professor of psychology. “Sitting and toughing it out is likely a better choice.”
The new findings add to a growing body of evidence that boredom is on the rise, despite a world filled with content we can access at all times. People who are bored often turn to their phones, only to feel more bored. Swiping on social media has also been linked to increased feelings of boredom.
Boredom can motivate people to explore their environment and to stop investing time in an activity that has little to offer. However, if we rely too much on quick escapes, it would be like an animal jumping from tree to tree in search of food without staying long enough to see if a tree bears fruit. That animal risks starvation.
