Helen Cowan had decided to sit in the garden one evening when she heard a loud noise. As
she walked to the front of the house, she saw some people crowding on the sidewalk outside.
As she walked toward the crowd, she saw a boy lying in a pool of blood near a crashed (撞
毁的) motorbike. His leg was almost cut off at the knee. Luckily, when Helen asked about his
situation, the young man could still talk, even though he was in great pain.
Helen knew about first aid and had first aid training. She ran back inside her home to get
several thick towels to stop the bleeding.
As Helen returned to the boy with the towels, someone from the crowd had called an
ambulance , but the young man was still bleeding heavily. “On my return, I could
see that the other people were afraid to come forward and help. I used the towel as best I could to
press the wound (伤 口 ) until help arrived,” Helen said. Then she successfully controlled the
bleeding and comforted the young man while waiting for help to arrive. Before long, the
ambulance team arrived.
Unluckily, doctors weren’t able to save the man’s leg, but they did save his life—and Helen’
s actions played a key role. Without the first aid skills Helen used, the results of this accident

【答案】例文:
Dear students,
I am glad to talk about the topic of the class meeting — protect the elephants. Elephants
are the largest mammals on land. They can live as long as 80 years. However, these years the
number of elephants is becoming much smaller, because people cut down forests and elephants
are losing their homes. Also, people kill them for ivory. In a word, elephants are in great danger.
I think we should try our best to protect them. First, we should help make rules to stop
people from killing elephants. Second, we shouldn’t cut down trees. Third, we shouldn’t buy
anything made of ivory.
I think we should play a part in protecting the elephants and helping them have a safe and
comfortable home.
That’s all. Thanks a lot.
