The journey to Xizang was the realization of a long-held fascination, nurtured during the vibrant Tibetan dances at Minzu University of China (MUC) in Beijing.
Every Friday night, the campus would come alive as students from diverse backgrounds gathered in circles, swinging together in Tibetan dance. These dances, where elegant moves bridged cultures, not only sparked my curiosity but deeply moved me. They highlighted the power of dance to unite people across different ethnic groups. Attracted by these interactions and the beauty of Tibetan culture, I often dreamed of dancing at op the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau-“the roof of the world.” This dream became a reality when MUC offered a valuable opportunity to experience and engage with the culture I had come to admire from afar.
Upon arrival in Lhasa, the challenge of adapting to the high altitude at over 3,000 meters was discouraging. Despite my concerns, the strong reaction I experienced was not physical discomfort but rather a deep emotional response to the warmth and generosity of the Tibetan people. Their spirit, far more impactful than the thin air, touched my heart deeply.
The depth of spiritual and cultural richness I encountered in Xizang was reflected in the everyday interactions with the locals. This was reflected not just in their actions but also in their cuisine, which became a transformative element of my journey. The taste of fresh, creamy butter and the discovery of butter tea were sources of inspiration. Each sip and bite deepened my understanding of Tibetan culture, revealing culinary delights previously unknown to me.
This journey not only brought me closer to fulfilling my dream of visiting all provincial-level regions in China but also deepened my appreciation for the intricate tapestry of human connections across cultural boundaries.
4. What inspired the author’s interest in Tibetan culture
A. Weekly Tibetan dance gatherings. B. A study on ethnic cultures.
C. Invitations from Tibetan friends. D. A documentary about Tibetan dances.
5. What did the author imply about arriving in Lhasa

On January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech firm named DeepSeek launched a new AI-DeepSeek-R1.This intelligent program has the ability to solve math problems, write code, and answer questions, similar to top-tier models like OpenAI’s GPT-4.0. However, its development cost is much lower. The team only spent $5.58 million (1/70 of OpenAI’s cost) and used 2,048 computer chips over two months, demonstrating that great ideas can outperform large amounts of money.
DeepSeek-R1 learns through repeated attempts and self-improvement, much like students practicing math. While other AIs rely on numerous pre-prepared examples, R1 can elevate itself. For instance, in a global math test, it achieved a 79.8% accuracy rate, slightly surpassing OpenAI’s model. Moreover, a basic version of R1 can run on low-cost computers, benefiting schools and small enterprises. DeepSeek-R1 is open for free use and modification. On its first day online, more than 19,000 programmers worldwide initiated projects to study it. A German scientist stated that experiments with R1 cost only $10, compared to $300 for other AIs. Even a top scientist from Meta (a well-known US tech company) said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
US tech companies are concerned. Meta plans to invest an additional $65 billion in AIresearch. Experts believe China is catching up rapidly. A report in Nature magazine describedR1 as a“big step forward”, proving that smart ideas can defeat expensive tools.
As a DeepSeek engineer put it, “We hope AI will be a friend, not just something for the wealthy to use.” With R1, China shows the world that great achievements come from innovative ideas and hard work, not just money.
8. What is the main advantage of DeepSeek-R1 compared with other top-tier models
A. It has a wider range of functions.
B. It can work on more types of computers.
C. It can solve more complex math problems.

D(改编)
While teenagers who are at risk of depression with risky behaviors — drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and cutting classes often alert parents and teachers that serious problems are brewing, a new study finds that there’s another group of adolescents who are in nearly as much danger of experiencing the same mental symptoms.
These teens use tons of media, get insufficient sleep and have a sedentary (不爱活动的) lifestyle. Of course, that may sound like a description of every teenager on the planet. But the study warns that it is teenagers who engage in all three of these practices in the extreme that are truly in a dangerous position. Because their behaviors are not usually seen as a red flag, these young people have been called the“invisible risk” group by the study’s authors.
The study’s authors surveyed 15,395 students and analyzed nine risk behaviors, including excessive alcohol use, illegal drug use, heavy smoking and high media use. Their aim was to determine the relationship between these risk behaviors and mental health issues in teenagers. The group that scored high on all nine of the risk behaviors was most likely to show symptoms of depression; in all, nearly 15% of this group reported being depressed, compared with just4% of the low-risk group. But the invisible group wasn’t far behind the high-risk set, with more than 13% of them exhibiting depression.
The findings caught Carli off guard. “We didn’t expect that,” he says. “The high-risk group and low-risk group are obvious, but this third group was not only unexpected. It was so distinct and so larger — nearly one third of our sample — that it became a key finding of the study.”
Carli says that one of the most significant things about his study is that it provides new early warning signs for parents, teachers and mental health-care providers. And early identifications, support and treatment for mental health issues, he says, are the best ways to keep them from turning into full-blown disorders.
12. Which teenager probably belongs to the“invisible group”
A. A teenager who drinks frequently.
B. A teenager who exercises regularly.
C A teenager who skips school.
D. A teenager who suffers from a lack of sleep.
13. What can we know about the new study
A. It was intended to dig into the reasons for depression.
B. Its findings were under expectation of the research team.
C It revealed an alarming rate of the invisible group suffering depression.
D. It was conducted by analyzing and comparing the previous data.
14. What is Carli’s attitude toward the findings
A. Unclear. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent.
15. The author wrote this passage to ________.
A. introduce a new therapy for teens’ mental disorder
B. caution teens against developing unhealthy habits
C. share a novel psychological experiment with teens
D. warn about the unobserved signals for teens’ mental problems
D 13. C 14. B 15. D
根据文章第二段“These teens use tons of media, get insufficient sleep and have a sedentary (不爱活动的)lifestyle. Of course, that may sound like a description of every teenager on the planet. But the study warns that it is teenagers who engage in all three of these practices in the extreme that are truly in a dangerous position. Because their behaviors are not usually seen as a red flag, these young people have been called the “invisible risk” group by the study’s authors.(这类青少年大量使用媒体、睡眠不足且生活方式久坐不动。当然,这听起来可能像是对地球上所有青少年的普遍描述。但研究警告称,真正处于危险境地的是那些极端沉迷于这三种行为的青少年。由于他们的行为通常不被视为危险信号,研究作者将这类年轻人称为“隐形风险”群体。)”可知,“隐形风险”群体的特征是极端沉迷于三种行为:大量使用媒体、睡眠不足和久坐不动的生活方式。选项D“A teenager who suffers from a lack of sleep.( 睡眠不足的青少年)”直接对应“隐形风险”群体的核心特征之一,因此属于该群体。
根据文章第三段“The group that scored high on all nine of the risk behaviors was most likely to show symptoms of depression; in all, nearly 15% of this group reported being depressed, compared with just4% of the low-risk group. But the invisible group wasn’t far behind the high-risk set, with more than 13% of them exhibiting depression.(结果显示,在所有九项风险行为中得分高群体最容易出现抑郁症状:总体而言,该群体中近15%的人报告有抑郁倾向,而低风险群体中这一比例仅为4%。但“隐形风险”群体的抑郁比例紧随其后,超过13%的人表现出抑郁症状。)”可知,“隐形风险”群体的抑郁比例超过13%,且该群体规模庞大(占样本近三分之一),这一数据揭示了其抑郁率之高令人警惕。故选C。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Carli says that one of the most significant things about his study is that it provides new early warning signs for parents, teachers and mental health-care providers. And early identifications, support and treatment for mental health issues, he says, are the best ways to keep them from turning into full-blown disorders.(Carli指出,这项研究最重要的意义之一在于,它为家长、教师和心理健康服务提供者提供了新的早期预警信号。

One year, while I was living in south Texas, I received a box in the mail from my son. The package was about 12×12×12 inches but felt very light. I couldn’t imagine what was in it.
The post office had marked it fragile (易碎的), so I was careful as I removed the tape and slid the lid (盖子) off. The gift was wrapped in soft white tissue paper with a tiny piece of tape holding it together.
I carefully eased the tapc away from the paper and opened it. An earthy sweetness filled my nose as my eyes met the surprise of many different kinds of autumn leaves of every shape, color, and size in the box. My son had sent the package through priority mail, so the leaves would still have their bright colors. A note read. “Mom, I’m sending a little Fall to you. Enjoy.”
The sight and smell were just as satisfying as if I had tasted something I had been longing for. It brought tears to my eyes that my son understood my need for a feeling of the autumn season.
My son now lives in southern Georgia. One day I was telling my two granddaughters about their dad sending me fall leaves each year. They said, “Nana, we don’t get a lot of colorful fall leaves here like you do in Virginia. Will you send us some of yours ”
So I decided that it was my turn to please them with a box of fall leaves.
I used a box for each of them as I collected leaves from all kinds of trees; any trees with big or small colorful leaves that fell to the ground.
When I brought them home, I used wax paper (蜡纸) to preserve them. First, I laid the leaves on a piece of wax paper and then laid a piece of wax paper on top. Then I pressed them with a hot iron. When it cooled, I removed the wax paper that had coated the beautiful leaves.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
I placed the dried leaves in two boxes, adding something special to each one.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Two days later, my granddaughters called to tell me what they had done with their leaves.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
I placed the dried leaves in two boxes, adding something special to each one. There were little touches — hand-drawn smiley faces on the lids, small bags of dried flowers for a calming smell, and handwritten notes that said, “May these leaves bring you a piece of Nana’s fall magic.” After sealing the boxes with care, I walked to the post office, imagining my granddaughters’ smiles as they opened them. As I sent them off, a mix of excitement and nervousness filled me and I couldn’t wait to hear how my granddaughters would react.
Two days later, my granddaughters called to tell me what they had done with their leaves. My oldest granddaughter took her leaves outside and spread them around their pine trees, while my youngest carefully placed hers around her room and on the door, so she could feel my closeness. After hanging up, I was reminded of the simple joys and connections that nature brings across generations. I hope that each year when my granddaughters open their fall leaf boxes, they will feel the love and memories placed with each leaf. A small box of leaves can truly bridge the miles and keep us connected through the seasons.

C. A teenager who skips school.
D. A teenager who suffers from a lack of sleep.
13. What can we know about the new study
A. It was intended to dig into the reasons for depression.
B. Its findings were under expectation of the research team.
C. It revealed an alarming rate of the invisible group suffering depression.
D. It was conducted by analyzing and comparing the previous data.
14. What is Carli’s attitude toward the findings
A. Unclear. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent.
15. The author wrote this passage to ________.
A. introduce a new therapy for teens’ mental disorder
B. caution teens against developing unhealthy habits
C share a novel psychological experiment with teens
D. warn about the unobserved signals for teens’ mental problems

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
I placed the dried leaves in two boxes, adding something special to each one.
