1. This elephant weighs many times more than this panda. 这只大象比这只大熊猫重很多倍。
(1) weigh既可作及物动词,表“称重”,也可作连系动词,表“有……重”;
对重量提问时,常用句型有:“How much do / does / did + 主语 + weigh ”
或“How heavy be + 主语 ”。
其名词形式为weight。常用短语:in weight在体重方面。
例如:
I weighed the box. It weighs 20 kg. 我称了这个盒子,它重20公斤。
The boy weighs 20 kg.=The boy is 20 kg in weight.这个男孩重20公斤。

(2) 英语中“倍数”的表达方式:
① 表示 “A 比 B 长(宽、高、大、重等)N 倍”时,其结构为“A + be + 基数词(N+1)+times + 形容词比较级 + than + B ”。
例如:
This hall is five times bigger than our classroom.
这个大厅比我们的教室大五倍。
He runs three times faster than his brother.
他跑得比他弟弟快三倍。
【注意】:“两倍”可用twice表示。

② 表示“A 的长度(宽度,高度,大小,重量等)是 B 的 N 倍”,可用 “A + be + 基数词(N)+times + as + 形容词原级 + as + B”结构。
例如:

This tree is three times as tall as that one.
他父亲的年纪有他两倍大。
His father is twice as old as he.
The new building is three times as tall as the old one.
新大楼的高度是旧大楼的三倍。

③表示“A的高度/重量/长度……是B的多少倍”,可用“A+谓语动词+倍数+the height / weight / length …+of + B ”结构。
例如:
His father is twice the age of he.

The newly-built bridge is twice the length of the old one.
新建的桥长度是旧桥的两倍。

2. At birth, a baby panda is about 0.1 to 0.2 kilos. 刚出生时,一只大熊猫幼崽体重大约是 0.1 到 0.2 千克。

3. A panda can live up to 20 to 30 years. 一只大熊猫可以活到 20 至 30 岁。
up to 到达(某数量、程度等);至多有;不多于。其中to为介词,后接名词作宾语。
例如:There are up to 2,000 students in our school.
我们学校有多达两千名学生。
The old man can live up to ninety years.
这位老人能活到九十岁。
【注意】:up to还可表示“(体力或智力上)能胜任;适于(做某事)”,
后可接名词或动词作宾语。常用于否定句。
