We all like fresh fruit and vegetables. Very few people are willing to eat food that is thrown
awayas waste. But that was exactly what some world leaders did at a lunch held by the United
Nations.
During the meal, the world leaders enjoyed dishes like salads and burgers made with
thrown-away vegetables and fruits. Chef Dan Barber, who helped create the meal, hoped that the
experience would make the leaders pay more attention to the problem of food waste.
It is reported that one out of nine people on Earth does not get enough food. Yet every year
over one third of the food produced worldwide goes to waste! Why is so much food wasted
Firstly, food is often thrown away before it goes to the market because too much of it is produced,
or because it is not kept properly on farms. Secondly, shops and supermarkets usually throw away
unsold food. Finally, customers often buy more food than they need, so a lot of uneaten food is
wasted.
How can you waste less food When eating out, you may ask for less food and take home
what is left. Visit fast food restaurants less often, since they are usually more wasteful. Encourage
your favorite restaurants to give unsold food to food banks. You can also waste less food at home.
Use smaller rice bowls so that you eat less rice. Encourage family members to use unfinished rice
to make rice puddings. Tell family members to make a shopping list and buy only what is on the
list when shopping for food.
Food waste is a growing problem and we, either farmers or food sellers or customers, must
take this problem more seriously and do what we can to help.
24.Which of the following is NOT the reason for food waste
A.Everyone can have enough food to eat. B.People often buy more than enough.
C.The food isn’t kept properly on farms. D.Supermarkets haven’t sold out all the food.
25.What kind of information can we get from the whole passage
A.Using smaller bowls at home can’t avoid wasting food.
B.Chef Dan Barber cares a lot about the problem of food waste.
C.We can just throw away unfinished food to keep healthy.
D.The world leaders usually enjoy thrown-away vegetables and fruits.
26.The main purpose of this passage is to ________.
A.encourage people to eat thrown-away vegetables and fruits

C.ask everyone to help solve the problem of food waste
D.stop people from eating in the restaurant

COVID-19 is still spreading around the planet. This year’s Earth Day focuses on climate
(气候) change. Scientists agree that climate change is causing harm to the world in the form of
bad weather and natural disasters. Will climate change lead to more disease outbreaks in the future
The answer is a possible “yes”. According to the World Health Organization (WHO),
studies have shown that a warming Earth is causing more infectious (传染性的) diseases.
Malaria (疟疾), a serious and sometimes deadly disease, is mainly spread by mosquitoes
(蚊子). Climate change results in more heat waves and floods, which provide perfect conditions
for mosquitoes to breed (繁殖). In India, for example, the warmer climate has increased the risk
by about five times. Studies also suggest that global increases in temperature will drive disease—
carrying insects from the equator (赤道) to the north. This means some diseases like malaria or
dengue fever (登革热) may move into new areas, such as Europe.
Deforestation (滥 伐 森 林 ), a major cause of climate change, has something to do with
infectious diseases, according to Nature. In places such as Central and West Africa, there have
been serious deforestation and losses of living areas for bats (蝙蝠). These bats have started living
closer to humans, which increases the possibility of Ebola (埃博拉) outbreaks.
As ice keeps melting (融化) into water, diseases that lie under the ice may also come back.
In 2016, a city in northern Russia saw an outbreak of anthrax (炭疽) during a heat wave. Scientists
believe the virus came out from the frozen soil because of rising temperatures. About 90 people
were infected, the New York Times reported.
What can we do to “cool” Earth
Governments can
Put a tax (税) or fee on carbon emissions.
Advise using clean energy, such as wind and sun energy.
Make policies and laws to protect the environment.
You can
Turn off electronic devices, such as computers and TVs when you aren’t using them.
Take a walk, ride a bike or take public transportation as much as you can.
Buy products that are energy-efficient.
27.What kind of harm may be caused by climate change
A.Deforestation. B.Energy shortage. C.Transportation cost. D.Bad weather and
natural disasters.
28.What does the underline word “This” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.The rising temperatures help mosquitoes to breed. B.Serious diseases can only stay alive
in northern areas.
C.Insects help spread some serious diseases to the north. D.High temperatures make a
difference to the looks of insects.
29.What is TRUE according to the passage
A.An outbreak of anthrax resulted from the frozen soil. B.The climate change does little
harm to the people’s health.
C.Bats act as a way for diseases to spread because of the deforestation. D.This year’s
Earth Day advises people to stop the spread of the diseases.
30.The purpose of this article is to________.
A.explain the possible diseases under the warmer climate B.introduce how to save energy
and protect the environment
C.express the writer’s ideas about what leads to the climate change D.warn people of
diseases the warmer climate brings and offer some advice

根据第四段“Deforestation (滥伐森林), a major cause of climate change…These
bats have started living closer to humans, which increases the possibility of Ebola (埃博拉)
outbreaks.”可知,由于砍伐森林,蝙蝠的栖息地减少,它们会越来越接近人类,成为疾病传

Tom, the main c 48 of the book, lives with his aunt Polly. He is a lively and
clever boy. He does not like people telling him what to do, so he always gets into t 49 .
He and his best friend, Huck Finn, run away to the island in the middle of the Mississippi River.
Tom has more trouble because a bad man named Injun Joe is looking for him. Later, Tom r 50
away from a cave, with another friend.
My favourite part of the book is when Tom and Huck start their adventures on the island in
the Mississippi River. At first, they are happy. But when they hear that everyone thinks they are d
51 , so they come back home. They hide and watch for a time when they see their family and
neighbours coming to their funeral (葬 礼 ) in the church. Then, Tom and Huck s 52
appear. Everyone is surprised to see them at first, but very pleased to find that they are alive.
The Adventure of Tom Sawyer is a great book. It is m 53 than an adventure story.
Mark Twain w 54 it in 1876. It describes people’s lives in the southern states of A
55 at that time. It tells how young people grow, how people love each other and how bad
people pay for their actions. Today, it is still read and loved by people all over the world.

B.tell us food waste is a very serious problem
C.ask everyone to help solve the problem of food waste
D.stop people from eating in the restaurant
C
D

Wrapping paper (包装纸) may have “paper” in its name, but that doesn’t mean it can be
recycled. 31 Try the following advice to reduce wrapping paper you throw away.
Reuse what you have. 32 It’s reported that the U. S. produces 4.6 million
pounds of wrapping paper every year, and 2.3 million pounds of that stays in people’s homes,
waiting to be reused.
Use different materials. 33 Choose basic brown thick paper that can be made
up with leaves, pinecones (松 果 ) or markers. You can also use newspapers, old posters and
children’s school artworks as wrapping paper. When decorating a present, there are plenty of other
eco-friendly alternatives (替代物) to wrapping paper.
34 Use baskets, gift boxes or bags, tea towels, and more to show your presents.
Learn the Japanese art of wrapping, using beautiful knots (绳结) to fasten colorful, reusable cloth
in attractive ways. This way, you’ll have no wrapping paper waste to deal with.
Ask for better paper. Shops store what customers want, and recyclability should be
thought first, so let that be known when you’re out shopping. Make paper with recycling in mind!
35
A.Try zero waste.
B.Shop with that in mind, too.
C.You don’t have to choose shining paper to decorate a present.
D.In fact, many types of wrapping paper cannot be recycled.
E.It is not a good idea to buy expensive wrapping paper.
