On February 15, 2024, OpenAI introduced Sora to the world by sharing amazing videos made by AI.
Sora isn’t the first AI video model, but it is the first to show such high levels of consistency (连贯性), and its videos look very real.

Sora is a video model. It turns text, images or videos into the AI video content. It is named after the Japanese word “sky”, which the company said was to show its “limitless creative potential (无穷的创造潜力)”. One of the first videos showed two people walking through Tokyo in the snow.
Unlike some of the models that came before it, it appears that Sora has improved a lot. It can now make videos up to one minute long with consistent characters and movements.
What data was Sora trained on
OpenAI says it trained its model on public videos, public contents and some videos where it had bought the licence (许可) ahead of time.
It didn’t tell people the number of videos used for training, and we know it is unlikely for the company to give out that information.
The company used a special engine to create captions (字幕) and labels (标签) from video files (文件).
They did this to train Sora to become better on real-world contents.

围棋在德国[传统文化]
Go, known in China as weiqi, is a board game for two players. To win, one player must use black or white playing pieces, called stones, to sur round more areas.
The game was invented in China more than 2,000 years ago.
It is one of the four traditional Chinese fine arts, along with playing the guqin, calligraphy and painting, so it has a large numbers of fans in China. Now it is also popular in other parts of the world.
In Germany, the Berlin Go Association (柏林围棋协会) has worked together with the China Cultural Center to host the China Cup, which attracts about 50 to 100 players each year.
As the cooperation (合作) between China and Germany deepens, many Go training courses are offered, and sometimes top players from China are invited to give talks to German Go lovers.
Andreas Urban, the chairman (主席) of the Berlin Go Association, found a book on Go. “I tried to understand the rules, but I couldn’t,” said Urban.
Schreiber, the vice chairman (副主席), was introduced to the game 16 years ago by a classmate. “The first time I played Go, I even couldn’t understand the rules,” he said. But both of them found the game more and more interesting after practicing. “I advise children to learn Go. They can learn that there is always someone stronger and it’s OK to lose. They can also learn how to improve from their mistakes and say tomorrow will be better than today,” said Schreiber.
To the experienced players, Go can be very addictive (上瘾的), as it is not just for fun, but also has a deeper cultural ground. When two players meet on the Go board, they follow the same rules, but may carry completely different methods. One of the best ways to improve is to play against someone who’s stronger, and at the same time, from different cultural backgrounds. This kind of cross-cultural communication helps the development of Go.
