People exercise, like running, to stay healthy. One special exercise is called planking. To plank, you get down on your stomach. You rest your weight on your arms and toes to keep your body straight. This exercise works out your abs (腹肌) and legs!
Many people can hold a plank for a minute, but 58-year-old Wilde held her plank for 4 hours, 30 minutes, and 11 seconds! It’s the women’s world record for the longest plank time!
Wilde has always been active. But about 10 years ago, Wilde broke her wrist (手腕). She couldn’t exercise the way she was used to. She started planking. “I realized that I could read when I was planking, and I fell in love with it.” Wilde said. Wide first had pain in her hands and arms, but that didn’t stop her. On the big day, Wilde planked at the high school. Her family and students came to cheer her on! A worker from Guinness World Records watched her performance the whole time.
Wilde said the first two hours went by quickly. The next two hours were harder, however. “The last hour was the most challenging,” she said. In the final 30 minutes, Wilde just focused on breathing and stayed calm. When she broke the record, everyone shouted and cheered. Wilde planked about 10 minutes longer than the old record!
Wilde had advice for people, “Whatever you like, the better you get at it, the easier it becomes.” she said. So, keep working on your goals, one day you may break a world record too!
