Since childhood, Federico Pardo has been crazy about animals. This early passion drove him to study biology in university, where he also picked up filmmaking skills. It wasn’t until he worked on a monkey-themed film that he found a way to combine the two passions. Now, by telling the stories of the most endangered monkey species in Amazon, Pardo uses a documentary exhibition as a means to bridge the gap between urban audiences and the jungle. In recent years, deforestation has posed a great threat to monkeys, with some species having less than 3,000 individuals in the wild. This is why Pardo created the exhibition. “I want people to see them up close — their hands, their tails, in their playful, sleeping, and feeding moments.”
The exhibition is a multi-part journey. First is an educational introduction of four endangered primates (灵长目动物). Audiences then slowly make their way into the immersive (沉浸的) components. They walk through a special passage full of sounds and smells to the multimedia jungle, which is actually a big projection theater. Here, Pardo’s 28-minute film plays on all the walls, showing threats like a leopard hunting monkeys. Many visitors are teary-eyed and offer to help. Each ticket contributes to planting a tree in the monkeys’ habitats, transforming people’s experience into touchable efforts.
However, filming monkeys in nature is quite a formidable task. Pardo has to stay on a platform among forest leaves, braving extreme heat and humidity, and the mosquitoes eager for a bite. But Pardo sticks it out for a special moment. “When you see the monkeys in the trees, you will be amazed at their beauty.”
The success of the past year’s exhibitions has helped plant roughly 8,000 trees across the region. But Pardo’s ambitions don’t stop here. Lastly, his team is thinking through Colombia’s first-ever monkey tourism route. They envision tourists traveling around the country to see these endangered monkeys, supporting local tourism initiatives. “I’m hoping by sometime next year, I can do the first trip myself and visit some of these locations.”
4. What motivated Pardo to hold the exhibition
A. His concern about endangered monkeys.
B. His academic background in university.
C. The monkey films he made before.
D. The desire to explore nature.
5. What does Pardo do with the exhibition income
A. He shows the monkey’s development.
B. He adds enough educational content.
C. He donates the income to protect monkeys.
D. He tracks a group of monkeys in the jungle.
6. What does the underlined word “formidable” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Inspiring. B. Challenging. C. Efficient. D. Strange.
7. What is Pardo likely to focus on in future
A. Continuing tree planting.
B. Hosting a wildlife exhibition.
C. Constructing a monkey habitat.
D. Establishing a monkey tourism route.

For many years, scientific studies have long recognized laughter as an effective treatment, particularly for patients dealing with depression, stress, and anxiety. The healing effects of laughter have been observed in patients with diverse medical conditions such as mental health disorders, cancer, and diabetes. However, a clinical trial recently published unearthed something more significant: Laughter therapy (疗法) might also hold the cure for dry eye disease (DED).
Experts from China and the UK launched into a journey to investigate the effectiveness and safety of laughter exercises in patients struggling with DED symptoms. The trial involved 283 participants, aged between 18 and 45, and they were divided into two groups. The researchers ensured all participants had no other existing eye conditions, and recent contact lens (隐形眼镜) wearers or DED treatment users were excluded from the study.
The participants in the first group were asked to watch a video and speak like “hee hee hee, hah hah hah” 30 times over a five-minute session. On the other hand, the second group treated their eyes only with eye drops four times a day. Both groups used the same app to track themselves.
After both treatments were stopped at eight weeks, the researchers observed that the average OSDI (眼表疾病指数量表) score in the laughter group was 10.5 points lower, indicating less discomfort. The eye drop group, in contrast, scored 8.83 points lower. Laughter exercise was not only as effective as traditional eye drops, but also showed noticeable improvements in mental health scores. What makes this discovery even more exciting is that there were no unfavorable events reported in either study group.
The researchers acknowledged some limitations that could have influenced the results, but they firmly believe that laughter exercise has the potential to improve DED symptoms substantially. “As a safe, environmentally friendly, and low-cost intervention, laughter exercise could serve as a first-line, homebased treatment for people with symptomatic dry eye disease,” the expert noted.
8. What can be inferred about laughter therapy in paragraph 1
A. It’s widely adopted. B. It’s newly appeared.
C. It can lead to DED. D. It can discover many diseases.
9. Who is qualified for the experiment
A. A 40-year-old with healthy eyes. B. A 17-year-old without eye diseases.
C. A 30-year-old suffering from DED at present. D. A 45-year-old recovering from DED treatment.
10. What additional advantage does laughter have besides DED treatment
A. Preventing DED. B. Improving mental well-being.
C. Increasing OSDI scores. D. Replacing medical treatment.
11. Which is the best title for the text
A. DED: A Disease Finding a Way to Cure B. Why Laughter Relieves Mental Disorders
C. How a Clinical Trial Changes Medical Future D. Laughter Exercise: A Novel Treatment for DED

Scientists in the United Kingdom have stored the complete set of human genes on a 5D memory crystal (晶体), in the hope that the crystal could provide a blueprint to bring human beings back from extinction thousands, millions or even billions of years in the future.
Most data storage formats in use today degrade (损耗) over time. But the crystal, which was developed by the Kazansky’s team at the University of Southampton, could remain stable at room temperature for 300 quintillion years, which is longer than most theories predict the universe will last. Even at higher temperatures up to 190℃, the material could stay unbroken for up to 13.8 billion years. The crystal can survive in temperatures around 982 ℃ or well below freezing. They can also stand forces up to 10 tons per square centimeter—roughly equal to the weight of two African elephants — and long exposure to radiation, meaning they could survive long journeys through the universe.
Kazansky’s team used extremely fast lasers (激光) to write the human DNA data into tiny spaces as small as 20 nanometers. They describe the data storage on the crystal as 5D because the information is translated into five different dimensions — their height, length, width, orientation and position.
The team also had to consider who — or what — would access the information, so far off into the future. It could be an intelligence, such as a species or a machine. To help whoever finds it, the researchers included a visual key, which was marked on the crystal to give the finder knowledge of what data is stored inside and how it could be used.
It is not currently possible to revive a species based only on a single genetic code. However, the team believes that a future advanced civilization may possess the necessary knowledge and technology to accomplish this. The 5D memory crystal also opens up possibilities to build an everlasting database of genetic information from which complex organisms like plants and animals might be restored.
12. Why do the scientists work on a 5D memory crystal
A. To keep genetic diversity on earth. B. To improve methods of data collection.
C. To avoid the extinction of rare species. D. To preserve human DNA for the future.
13. What do the numbers in paragraph 2 illustrate
A. The stability of the memory crystal. B. The significance of space exploration.
C. The frequency of extreme conditions. D. The limitations of current data storage.
14. What’s the function of the visual key
A. To indicate the capacity of crystal data storage.
B. To instruct the finder to access data on the crystal.
C. To demonstrate the development of crystal practices.
D. To allow the machine to translate DNA within the crystal.
15. What is the team’s attitude towards the future of the crystal
A. Doubtful. B. Optimistic. C. Indifferent. D. Concerned.

I was eighteen months old when my parents took me to my first concert. The hall was filled with the sounds of violins, drums and flutes (长笛), creating an attractive symphony. I was sitting on my father’s lap, my eyes wide with wonder. Then magic happened. As the musicians played Hamsadhwani, a classical melody (旋律), I screamed out its name. My father looked at me in shock. Little did I know that would shape my life’s path.
As I grew older, my music teacher, Juliet, developed my talent. Under her guidance, I picked up the flute. I was also enthusiastic about the piano, despite not having one at home. Thanks to Juliet, I was allowed to practice on the school’s piano after classes. Plus, I took singing lessons on weekends. Before long, I became a musical prodigy (神童)at school but Juliet often said to me, “To enjoy music, not to enjoy a title.”
With the emergence of my talent came vast expectations. I was compared to other musicians and the pressure to excel was huge. My parents also became increasingly strict, expecting more from me. Gradually, I turned sensitive.
Weeks later, there was going to be my breakthrough moment, a major competition. Each day, I practiced for hours, my fingers dancing over the keys of the piano at school and the flute becoming an extension of my being. My parents’ expectations were high, and I could feel the intensity of their hopes alongside my own. I was determined to prove myself, to live up to the title of “prodigy”.
One night, I was lying on my bed and suddenly felt a strange silence in my ears, as if they were filled with cotton. I shook my head, thinking it was just my imagination, but the world around me began to fade. The sound of my parents talking in the next room became distant. Panic set in, and I closed my eyes tightly, hoping to wake up from this nightmare.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;

【答案】The next morning, I awoke to a strange silence. I sat up, heart racing, and called for my parents. No response. I rushed to the living room, but I couldn’t hear their voices. I cupped my hands over my ears, trying to make the sounds back into existence, but all that remained was quiet. My parents took me from one hospital to another, only to be told there was nothing wrong with my ears but psychological anxiety. We seemed to have found the cure.
When the competition day arrived, I kissed Juliet and stepped onto the stage. I took a deep breath, recalling all the hours of practice and the support from Juliet and my parents. With my flute in hand, I closed my eyes and let the music flow through me. Each note resonated with my heart, transforming my anxiety into a powerful performance. The melody of Hamsadhwani filled the hall, and I felt a profound connection with the audience. In that moment, I realized that music was not just about talent, it was about the joy of sharing my art with others.
