Using an app(应用程序) to learn a language is handy because you can follow lessons and check your progress anywhere. Below is a list of my favorite ways to learn languages from my phone.
Google Translate
Most of apps teach you a language through exercises and progressive steps, while Google's simply tells you how to write and speak anything you run through it. Still, I think it's a great choice for beginners. I like to learn languages with Google Translate for two main reasons: its long list of supported languages, and the several language learning methods.
Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone is designed specifically for helping travelers learn basic words and phrases (短语) . There's also a phrasebook with basic words and words related to restaurants, hotels, and getting around-all very useful for someone traveling. If you want, you can buy extra phrasebooks covering topics like shopping, colors, emergencies, and so on.
Busuu
Busuu's app is user-friendly. You get to pick where you' d like to begin in the course. The words and phrases you'll learn are especially helpful for beginners who might find themselves around people speaking a foreign language and need to learn words in real situations quickly. However, Busuu doesn't support as many languages as some of these other apps.
Memrise
Memrise isn't as easy to use for quick translations as Google Translate, but it is easy to work with, supports offline courses, and lets you learn a number of languages. You can start off simple or move to more advanced lessons directly. I find Memrise to be unique in how it teaches new words and phrases. They put words into sentences alongside words that sound similar in your language, which makes it easier to remember.
1.Which apps are suitable for beginners according to the writer
A.Busuu and Memrise.
B.Google Translate and Busuu.
C.Rosetta Stone and Memrise.
D.Google Translate and and Rosetta Stone.
2.What is special about Memrise
A.It is designed for travelers.
B.It has an advantage of quick translation.
C.It supports a large number of languages.
D.It has an unusual method of teaching vocabulary.
3.In which part of a magazine may this text appear
A.Travelling. B.History. C.Technology. D.Business.

The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the Field Day in elementary school. Small for my age, and more of a bookworm than a sports lover, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams. The Field Day, which focused on individual (个体的) skills, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch.
Once I got to sixth grade and switched to private school, our entire student body was assigned to either the Red or the White team. Throughout the year, we competed against each other in various games and exercises for points. I eventually became president of The Committee of Games. I also played on the field hockey team and the basketball team. And at home, playing tennis, skating, skiing and biking were simply normal things we did. During the break time, magazines were also quite popular for us teens. These regularly featured articles on physical exercise. Somehow, my college roommate and I took up the habit of completing Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) exercises every day, a practice that continued into my marriage, when we had no spare money to use to join a gym.
So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation (基础) continue in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered important even on vacation. I still love reading and the arts, too. As far as I'm concerned, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds.

A.She changed the focus into reading.
B.She stuck to working out.
C.She regularly exercised on weekends.

A.Sports, my love for life
B.Father, my guide in sports

D.My unforgettable childhood with sports

Many of us are lucky enough to have some degree of choice over what we eat. But are the decisions we make about our diet as free as we assume
It appears we' re hugely influenced by other people — especially those closest to us —— when it comes to what we eat. Research has found that the closer and stronger two people's connection is, the more control they have over each other's food choices. This means social signals generally encourage us to eat more. Being around healthy eaters may guide you to eat healthier as well, though. Eating habits are also affected by what we see. "There is proof that, if you see pictures of food, that visual stimulation can inspire your desire to eat," says a UK scientist, Suzanne Higgs.
Social media is one place where visual and social signals meet. Evidence shows if friends in your social network post regularly about particular types of food, it could lead you to copy them, for better or for worse. And research indicates that social media might be changing our relationship with food, making us think differently about what we eat. "If all your friends on social media are posting pictures of themselves consuming fast food, it's going to set a norm that eating fast food is what people do," says Higgs.
Research suggests we' re more likely to be attracted by photos of fast food, especially some rich in saturated fat(饱和脂肪) , which can make us feel good, says Ethan Pancer, a professor in Canada. Humans are biologically prepared to seek out high-calorie food— an ability that helped our ancestors survive when they searched for food.
"Healthier foods are often seen as boring in comparison, and processed food is considered ‘cool'," a researcher from France, Tina Tessitore, adds that, "In advertising, you see unhealthy food in social settings— people having a barbeque with friends, for example, while healthy food usually focuses more on the nutritional value. If you saw friends eating salad together, it wouldn't seem so true." All of the findings are bothering researchers about the effects of social media, whether good or bad.
8.What's the author's main purpose in writing the article
A.To present elements affecting eating habits.
B.To explain the reasons for advertising food.
C.To raise public awareness of physical health.
D.To conclude findings of a new research.
9.Which of the statements might Suzanne Higgs agree with
A.Seeing photos of familiar food prevents you from eating more.
B.Social media has more influence on your dieting than close friends.
C.You may fall into the habit of fast food consumption following social media.
D.You' re sure to imitate what others make and eat if you regularly surf the Internet.
10.What can we infer from the article
A.People are free to make a choice on what to eat.
B.Human beings are born to choose food rich in calorie.
C The young generation prefer fast food because it's "cool"
D. You'll be easily encouraged to pick out food by experts.
11.What might the author focus on in the following paragraph
A.Researchers make market surveys testing netizens' acceptance of salad.
B.Internet stars stand out in advertising different kinds of processed food.
C.Public opinions vary on the current issue of food safety and nutritious diet.
D.Researchers are becoming concerned about how social media affects our diet.

In the world of digital health, Silicon Valley-based Mindstrong stands out. It has a remarkable team and tens of millions of funding. It also has a fascinating idea-its app, based on mental functioning research, can help detect troubling mental health patterns by collecting data on person's smartphone usage-how quickly they type, for instance.
The company's app collects information about how people are typing and runs it through a machine learning algorithm(计算程序) to determine which data can predict their emotional state. The idea is to use that data to establish a "normal" pattern-so it can be compared with someone' s typing habits on any given day. If the habits change, slower or more anxious than normal, the app can warn a health care provider.
The promise of this technology has made Mindstrong incredibly popular since it was launched last year; already more than a dozen counties in California have agreed to apply the company's app to patients. Does the app live up to its promise There's no way to tell. Almost no one outside the company has any idea whether it works, leading some experts to wonder if the technology is ready for the real world. "I wouldn't waste all that time and money in the wild until they get sure that some of those things are as specific as they hope they are," said Rosalind Picard, a researcher at MIT Media Lab, who is familiar with Mindstrongs work.
"It has passed the gold-standard clinical tests for depression and anxiety," said Dr. Paul Dagum, the company's founder. "We' re confident, and we' re already seeing some really exciting results." Mindstrong officials said that among their most encouraging results is that its app can even predict how a person will feel next week, kind of like a weather app for your mood. "For a clinician(临床医生) or someone looking after a patient, they know that it could be very, very powerful," Dagum said.
12.What can Mindstrong's app do
A.Improve its users' mental health.
B.Get its users to type more quickly.
C.Discover its users' mental state.
D.Work out the causes of its users' trouble.
13.What is the second paragraph mainly about
A.The ways of collecting data.
B.The app's working principle.
C.The analysis of typing habits.
D.The development of the app.
14.What is Rosalind Picard's attitude towards the app
A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Uncaring. D.Defensive.
15.What can we infer about Dagum's opinion on the app
A.The app has a powerful effect on anxiety.
B.The app can also predict weather conditions.
C.Care providers could be supporters of the app.
D.Doctors benefit more from the app than their patients.

4.What does the underlined word "humiliation" mean in Paragraph 1
A.Responsibility. B.Shock.
C.Shame. D.Glory.
5.The author thought she won in the Softball Throw event because of ____ .
A.her confidence in her sports skills
B.the efforts she put into exercising
C.her advanced sports gloves and hats
D.the strong influence of her father
6.What happened after the author stepped into adulthood
A.She changed the focus into reading.
B.She stuck to working out.
C.She regularly exercised on weekends.
D.She joined Royal Canadian Air Force.
7.What could be a suitable title for the passage
A.Sports, my love for life
B.Father, my guide in sports
C.The benefits I get from physical sports.
D.My unforgettable childhood with sports
【答案】4.C
5.D

【答案】12.C
