When it’s sunny and warm, people love to spend time outside. Sadly, spending time outdoors s can mean the risk of a bee sting (蜜蜂蜇伤). Most stings are caused by yellow jackets (黄蜂).
Many people are afraid of the honey bees because of their stings. When a bee stings something, it will lose its sting and die soon. If you leave it alone, it will not hurt you.
To avoid being stung (避免被蜇伤), you should always check the area outdoors. It is best to wear light (浅的) color clothes. Bees like bright colors. And you should not play near flowers.
If you or your child gets a sting, first you should look for the sting and take it out. Then wash the sting place with running water for twenty minutes. If the sting place still hurts, put ice on it for 10 minutes.
Usually the pain (疼痛) from a sting stops in some hours. The place of the sting may be swollen (肿胀的) for 24 hours. Call a doctor if the place of the sting stays swollen for more than one day or if you have a great pain. If the bees sting someone many times, the person may have a headache or fever. If the person can’t breathe because of the stings, call 120 right away.

Stephen Hawking once threw a party for time travelers
Hey everyone, Stephen Hawking is throwing a party, and we’re all invited! One catch: Hawking has been dead since 2018, and the party was in 2009. Still, the invitation stands.
What if you threw a party and nobody came, but that’s exactly what you expected That’s exactly what famed astrophysicist Stephen Hawking did on June 28,2009. He rented a space at Cambridge University and got balloons, decorations, and, yes, champagne. Then he sat in the empty room for a few hours and left.
Only then did he send out the invitation.
Essentially, Hawking’s time travel party was held for our future descendants, if they should ever crack the mystery of time travel, one of the biggest puzzles faced by modern physics.
The setup may seem silly, but Hawking was actually experimenting. That’s because our current knowledge of physics does not strictly forbid time travel. Indeed, in some cases, it’s clearly allowed. Take the general theory of relativity, for example.
General relativity provides several scenarios that enable time travel into the past. One involves an infinitely long cylinder, which rotates fast enough to allow you to travel a corkscrew path around it and end up in the past. Another is the creation of a wormhole where the ends are at separate points in spacetime, allowing you to travel down one end and exit into the past.
Every time scientists try to come up with a possible time travel setup in general relativity, they encounter some random rule of the universe that prevents them from realizing. And yet, no hard-and-fast rule outright forbids time travel, we’re a bit stuck. Hawking, like many other physicists, believed that a solution would come in the form of an advanced theory of gravity, one we currently do not yet know.
Since nobody showed up to Hawking’s time travel party, we have a few possible conclusions:
1) Our future descendants will realize a deeper understanding of the laws of physics and, in that deeper understanding, discover the fundamental reason why time travel into the past is forbidden. They will read about Hawking’s invitation and sigh regretfully that they could not make it.
2) Maybe some Sumerian ancient philosophers also hosted a time travelers' party thousands of years ago, writing down the invitation on clay tablets spread throughout the land, but none of them survived to the present day.
3) Maybe humanity destroys itself. Maybe our human intellect isn't quite powerful enough to discern (洞察) the deeper mysteries of the universe, or we never bother taking a deeper look.
4) Maybe it’s exceptionally complicated to build a time machine, or we can send fleeting (短暂的) signals into the past, but not entire persons. Or perhaps you can only travel as far back as the creation of the time machine itself.
Of course, if someone from the future had shown up, it would have been a big deal. But, as experiments go, Hawking’s party wasn’t a complete failure. In this case, it showed that the mystery of time travel will remain unsolved—at least, for the time being.

You can travel alone, with friends, or with a tour group. They all have strong points and weak points.
The best thing about traveling alone is that you can do what you want to do. No waiting around in places you are’t interested in, no missing a bus because your friend was late, etc. Your experience will be greatly improved by traveling alone. The main worry is loneliness, but it’s not difficult to talk to and meet people. Just remember everyone wants to meet new people, have fun and be friendly! However, there’s a safety problem in some countries, especially for women traveling alone. You should always check the Foreign Office of your country for advice on safety. Buying a personal alarm (警报装置) is a good idea for women traveling alone.
Traveling with a friend does sound nice, but it depends on how well you get on. If you have similar interests or travel ideas, it should be wonderful. You will find it much cheaper to cook food in developed countries and share a room. However, a lot of people I meet traveling together don’t seem to be having as much fun and often go their separate (各自的) ways.
Tours are great when they go well. Some of my best memories (记忆) have been with tour groups. The key there is when they go well. A terrible tour guide, quiet group and terrible food can ruin (毁掉) your time. My advice would be never to do a tour that is too long except in countries with safety problems or poor transport.
All in all, traveling alone is the best, but it is good to mix it up. Invite a friend from home to meet you for a few weeks. Try a tour group or two-some people love them-perhaps start with a day tour.
31.What should a woman do if she wants to travel alone
A.Get an alarm. B.Don’t be late. C.Don’t talk to strangers. D.Check the weather.
32.What is the writer’s advice on traveling with friends
A.Live in different rooms. B.Choose those who think similarly to you.
C.Always follow their travel ideas. D.Eat out when traveling in developed countries.
33.When should people choose long group tours
A.If you’re a tour guide. B.If you’re a quiet person.
C.If it’s not easy to move around. D.If the daily food is not easy to get.
34.What advice does the writer give in the last paragraph
A.Always travel alone. B.Start with a one-week tour.
C.Mix your friends up in the tour. D.Try different ways of traveling.
Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) tools like DeepSeek are becoming very popular. They bring big changes to our life, especially in learning and working.
DeepSeek has great technology. For example, its language models can answer lots of different questions well. In learning, students can use it to get more knowledge. When they have difficult problems in subjects like History, Maths or Science, they can ask DeepSeek for help. At work, it makes employees better at analyzing data. Marketers can use it to guess what will happen in the market, and writers can find ideas from it to write better things.
But, while DeepSeek gives us so much convenience, there are also problems. Some students depend too much on it and just copy the answers it gives. This is really wrong. In fact, with the growth of AI, we need to focus more on making our creativity better. In the future, jobs that need people to do the same thing over and over again will be taken by AI. Only those who are really creative can do well. For example, in art design, designers should use their own ideas to make great works instead of just using what AI makes. In science, researchers need to think of new ideas to find out things we don’t know.
So, we should see AI as a useful tool, not something that does our thinking for us. We must work on growing our creativity by keeping learning and practicing to get ready for the future.
35.How does DeepSeek help employees at work
A.It helps them copy the answers. B.It helps them solve the problems.
C.It helps them guess what to happen next. D.It helps them analyze data better.
36.What’s the wrong way some students use DeepSeek
A.Ask for help. B.Learn to write. C.Copy the answers. D.Answer difficult answers.
37.Which sentence is NOT right according to the passage
A.AI is a useful tool, not something that does our thinking for us.
B.Designers should use their own ideas instead of just using what AI makes.
C.AI can do some things that need people to do over and over again.
D.In the future, all the jobs will be taken by AI.
38.What’s the structure of this passage
A. B. C. D.
When the air is polluted, we wear masks (口罩) to protect ourselves. What about bees and butterflies They can’t wear masks.
A study led by Dr Ryall may give us the answer. His study finds that air pollution is bad for pollinators (传花粉者) like bees, butterflies and other insects. They can’t smell flowers because of the pollution.
Pollinators are important. They spread pollen (花粉) among plants with flowers. This helps the flower produce seeds (种子) and fruits. Without pollinators, farms cannot make food.
To do their study, Dr Ryall’s team built some new areas. They sent some bad gas there. In these areas, they found that only 30% of the pollinators flew in. Once they were there, they didn’t hang around.
“The results were much severer than we thought,” said Dr Ryall. “The pollution was so serious that it would be bad for the growth of flowers.”
Scientists explained that bad gas can break down the smells of flowers. This makes it hard for pollinators to find their food. Shannon, a scientist in India, pointed out if we do nothing to solve the problem of air pollution, pollinators will become fewer and fewer.

Birds are becoming popular as pets. To set up a better relationship with pet birds, it’s important for the owners to learn their language.
Bird’s beak is used mainly for eating and grooming. But a bird may click his beak once as a greeting, and several clicks can be a warning. Birds may sometimes bite, but it is difficult to know the reason behind it—maybe they bite to show anger or express fear.
Birds’ sound plays a very important role in communication. Singing is the sign of a happy bird, and many birds love to sing around others. They may also purr. Their purr sounds more like a low growl, and may indicate (暗示) annoyance. They also click tongues against their beaks, and this often indicates a desire to be picked up and petted.
Besides, birds can lift or open wings as a sign of happiness. But if they start opening and closing their wings, it may signal anger or pain. If a bird lets their wings hang by their side, he may be ill. Healthy adult birds will typically tuck (收拢) their wings against their bodies when they are at rest.
We can also read birds’ language by tail feathers. A bird may move his tail from side to side, which is called wagging, to express happiness. Happiness is also the emotion expressed by moving tails up and down. However, if a bird fans his tail feathers out, it usually shows anger or aggression.
43.What does the underlined word “beak” mean
A.Mouth. B.Foot. C.Ear. D.Chin.
44.Which is NOT a sign of happiness of birds
A.Singing. B.Clicking beaks several times.
C.Lifting and opening wings. D.Moving tails up and down.
45.What may it signal when a bird starts opening and closing their wings

A.When birds are at rest, they will tuck their wings against their bodies.
B.Birds’ purr may indicate they are annoyed.
C.Birds usually fan their feathers out to show anger.
D.Birds’ bites certainly mean they are in fear.
47.Where can we probably find the passage
A.In a film review. B.In a science report. C.In a travel guide. D.In an art magazine.
Once upon a time in China, there was a company called Xiaomi. They made smartphones and many other cool gadgets (电子装置). One day, Xiaomi decided to do something big and different. They created their very first electric car, called the SU7, and started selling it to people. The boss of Xiaomi, a man named Lei Jun, told everyone that this new car would cost 215,900 yuan (almost $30,000), undercutting Tesla’s Model 3, which begins at 245,900 yuan. It was a big event, and people were very excited. In just 27 minutes, more than 50,000 people ordered the new car.
Now, Xiaomi isn’t the only company making electric cars. There are other big names like Tesla and BYD.Tesla is a car made in America, and it’s known for being fast and modern. When kids are really young, they like to copy what their parents say. But at some point, they start becoming “creators”. So when does this change happen
According to a new study by scientists from the University of Chicago in the US, English-speaking children start making their own sentences at about 2.5 years old. To do this, kids need to first understand the rules of the language. For English, one important rule is that determiners (限定词), like “a” and “the”, go in front of nouns.
For 90 minutes every four months, the scientists recorded 64 English-speaking children talking with their parents. The scientists found that at around 30 months old, kids started using both “a” and “the” in front of the same noun, for example, “dog”. This showed that they understood the determiner-noun language pattern. What’s more, they were using the pattern to create more expressions their parents had never said.
But the recordings cannot cover everything the kids hear and say each day. So, the scientists developed an AI model to double-check their findings. Like a human child, the model could find language patterns in the recordings and predict when its own words come. “For the most part, it does what the kid does,” Susan Goldin-Meadow, one of the scientists, told Neuroscience News. The team then waited to see when the model produced its first new determiner-noun phrase. The result agreed with the 30-month timeframe (时间表).
The findings further scientists’ understanding of language learning. It can also help better teach kids with special needs, such as those learning sign language, wrote the scientists in their paper.
53.From Paragraph 1, we can learn “creators” can________.
A.invent new things B.understand a language
C.copy their parents’ words D.make their own sentences

A.The AI model showed how children learned the rules of the language.
B.The AI model explained why children used the determiner-noun pattern.
C.The AI model predicted when children started making their own sentences.
D.The AI model found how children could express themselves with a few words.
56.What does the passage mainly tell us
A.How babies learn to copy their parents’ speech patterns perfectly.
B.The importance of teaching sign language to children with special needs.
C.The time changing from copying to creating sentences in English-speaking children.
D.The role of AI in taking the place of human researchers in language studies.
Cold weather has a great effect on how our minds and our bodies work. Maybe that is why there are so many expressions that use the word “cold”. For example, the body’s blood has been connected closely with the emotions (情感). People who show no human emotions or feelings are said to be cold-blooded. Cold-blooded people act in cruel ways.
Cold can affect (影响) other parts of the body. But the expression “get cold feet” has nothing to do with cold or your feet. It means being afraid to do something you have decided to do. For example, you agree to be the CEO or a company. But then you learn that all the other officers have resigned (辞职), and all the work of the company will be your responsibility. You are likely to get cold feet about being the CEO when you understand the situation.
Cold can also affect your shoulder. The expression “give someone the cold shoulder” probably means turning your back towards someone, instead of speaking to him or her face to face. You may give the cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise or lied to others about you.
“A cold fish” is not a fish. It is a person. But it is a person who is unfriendly, unemotional and shows no love or warmth. A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone. Someone who is a cold fish could be cold-hearted.
“Out in the cold” means not getting something that everybody else gets. A person might say that everybody but him got a pay rise—he was left out in the cold. And it is not a pleasant place to be.
57.What does it mean if you get cold feet
A.You feel brave to do something. B.You feel too cold to do something.
C.You feel too afraid to do something. D.You feel very happy about doing something.
58.Who may you give a cold shoulder to
A.A helpful friend. B.An unfaithful friend.
C.An unfriendly classmate. D.A hard-working classmate.
59.Which of the following best describes a person who is unwilling to offer much of himself to others
A.Cold-blooded. B.Getting cold feet. C.A cold shoulder. D.A cold fish.
60.What’s the passage mainly about

In China, many elderly people are choosing to travel in March, which is usually a quiet season for tourism. Their interest is helping develop the silver economy—businesses that focus on older people.
A travel company called Qunar found that women over 50 have made the biggest increase in travel bookings. For example, Zhang Han from Beijing has more free time now that her daughter has started college. She and her friends even bought a camper van (房车) for road trips.
Travelling in March is cheaper and less crowded. Plane tickets can be 30% to 50% cheaper. Popular places for older travelers include Kunming, Guangzhou, Haikou, and Hangzhou. They enjoy seeing spring flowers and going on nature outings. Wuyuan, Wuxi, and Tongnan have seen more visitors recently.

Skywells, or tian jing, used to play a key role in keeping people’s homes cool in southern and eastern China. Could they do it again today
Skywells were designed to cool people’s homes naturally before air-conditioning. When wind blows above a skywell house, it can enter the indoor space through the opening. Because outdoor air is often cooler than indoor air, the incoming wind travels down the walls to the bottom and create airflows by replacing warmer indoor air, which rises and leaves through the opening.
Even though skywell buildings have existed in China for hundreds of years, in recent times they have often been forgotten by people who prefer modern facilities. Over the past two decades, however, they have been making a comeback. Yu Youhong, a craftsman, has spent more than 30 years bringing back skywell homes. He expects skywells to be more and more popular among younger generations because of their ventilation (通风) and lighting functions, especially as sustainability (可持续) becomes more important for new buildings.
Architects are now looking towards the principles (原理) behind skywells while designing new buildings to save energy. One example is a research centre in Jinan, Shandong province. Its 18-storey glass-walled tower block has a giant skywell in the middle. The elevators, toilets and meeting rooms are all situated around it, which helps improve the lighting and ventilation of the centre and reduces the use of energy.
Although ancient “green wisdom” like skywells continues to inspire today’s architecture, there are some challenges for bringing skywells into modern designs, according to Wang Zhengfeng, a researcher at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Because traditional skywells are highly dependent on their natural surroundings-for example, the amount of sunlight or rainfall-it is difficult to apply them as a universal solution, she explains.

Mary has always been one of the best students in her class. She often says to herself, “If I try a bit harder, I can improve still more.” Once again, her grades top the list when she enters high school. But then she begins to worry: “How can I keep this up What if I get a bad grade What would others think How can I look myself in the mirror if I’m not perfect ”
Mary is an example of a high—achieving student whose outstanding performance in school has made her a perfectionist. Perfectionists often have very high standards and are overly critical (批评的) of themselves if they fall short of those standards.
A study among students aged 12 to 19 shows that high academic (学业的) achievement is a common reason for the development of perfectionism. It has long been believed that perfectionism leads to better performance. In this view, perfectionism has a bright side because it drives students to perform better and better. But the new study questions this. Actually, it supports the opposite idea—high performance leads to increases in perfectionism. That is, it’s not perfectionism that makes students better at what they do, but the other way around. Continuous positive feedback (反馈) seems to push students to work harder for more and, as they realize they can reach their high goals, they raise their standards even higher.
It should also be noted that research generally points to the benefits of high academic success. However, this new study once again challenges that idea. Academic success may come with certain costs. Students may come to see it as both a responsibility and a burden (负担), believing that they need to keep this perfect image that has already been formed. So, students who have achieved academic success are likely to suffer from the fear of making mistakes, performing poorly in exams and losing the respect of others. If they do so, they’ve fallen into the trap (陷阱) of perfectionism.
There are many top students like Mary, who are used to getting the best grades. They have developed a perfectionistic mindset, thinking their lives would be destroyed if they ever failed. It’s very important that these students should learn not only how to achieve academic success, but also how to deal with that success without falling into the trap of perfectionism.
80.The words “fall short of ”in Paragraph 2 probably mean “________”.
A.refuse to raise B.hold on to C.fail to meet D.keep up with

A.High academic achievement is likely to deepen perfectionism.
B.Perfectionism drives students to better their learning habits.
C.Top students benefit greatly from being perfectionists.
D.More criticism pushes students to reach their goals.
82.What can we infer about Mary’s attitude (态度) towards her acadermic performance
A.She is confident in her abilities and she doesn’t care about her grades.
B.She feels pressured to keep her high grades and she is afraid of failure.
C.She believes that it is her natural talent rather than the fact that she makes efforts that leads to her success.
D.She is proud of her achievements but She doesn’t care about others’ opinions.
83.What is the passage mainly about
A.High academic achievement always leads to perfectionism.
B.Perfectionism is beneficial for students’ academic performance.
C.Academic success and perfectionism have no connection.
D.Students should avoid perfectionism to keep a healthy mindset.
Robert Phipps, who knows a lot about body language, says how people sleep at night can tell us about their personality. He found four sleeping positions that can show what kind of person you are.
Phipps found that people who worry a lot and stress the most, usually sleep in a position called the fetal position. This is the most common way to sleep. Almost 62% of people sleep on their side with their knees up and their head down. “The more we curl up, the more comfortable we want to be,” says Phipps.
The next most common way to sleep is called the log position. “People who sleep like this sleep straight with two arms on two sides, almost like a soldier. Phipps says this might mean they don’t like to change their habits, and 28% of people sleep like this. They often wake up feeling stiffer (僵硬的) than when they went to sleep. Phipps says, “The more time you spend sleeping like this, the more your thinking becomes rigid. This means your mind doesn’t stay open and this makes things harder for yourself.”
The third position is called the yearner. About 25% of people sleep this way, on their side with their arms put down comfortably in front, like they’re chasing a dream. Yearners are too hard on themselves and always want the best results. Phipps says these people often wake up feeling ready to face the day’s challenges.
The strangest sleep position is the freefaller. 17% of people sleep this way, facing down with their arms put down straight. Phipps says these people feel like they don’t have much control over their life. This is not only the strangest sleep position, but also the least comfortable. People might wake up feeling tired.
To make a conclusion, Phipps says: “Our sleeping positions matter a lot. How we sleep can show what kind of person we are.”
