Feedback on the results of a questionnaire survey
The survey results show that most students (60.9%) oppose teachers delaying classes, while only 8.2% support it. A smaller group (30.9%) believes it depends on the situation.
These results indicate that students value punctuality and efficient time management in class. Teachers should try to finish lessons on time to respect students' schedules. However, the "It depends" responses suggest flexibility might be acceptable in certain cases, such as important explanations. We recommend teachers plan lessons carefully and communicate clearly with students if extra time is needed. Balancing discipline and flexibility will improve satisfaction.
Feedback on the results of a questionnaire survey
The survey reveals mixed opinions regarding teachers delaying classes. A majority of students (60.9%) oppose the practice, while only 8.2% support it. Notably, 30.9% hold a neutral stance, indicating their response depends on specific circumstances.
These results suggest that most students value punctuality and structured schedules. However, the significant portion of conditional responses implies flexibility might be acceptable if justified. To improve satisfaction, we recommend teachers minimize delays and communicate reasons clearly when unavoidable. Balancing discipline with understanding can foster a better learning environment.

W: That’s the problem. I want both, but in different ways.
M: I understand! Being with friends could be more social and relaxed. What about costs
W: My cousin’s flat would be 750 a month. Sharing a house with three friends would be 420 each.
M: Don’t forget you’ll have bills too. Let’s guess that bills will be about 140 each in the house share. How much is that altogether
W:Oh, I can’t work it out! I think the flat is cheaper… But the house is in a nicer area.
M: You just need to figure out where you’d feel happiest and what you can afford.
W: I know. I don’t want to regret it either way.

Wojtek was a Syrian brown bear adopted by soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps during World War II.
In 1942,the newly formed Anders' Army left the Soviet Union for Iran, accompanied by thousands of Polish civilians who had been deported to the Soviet Union following the 1939 Soviet invasion of eastern Poland. On the journey to Tehran,Iran,on 8 April,Polish soldiers encountered a young Iranian boy who had found a bear cub whose mother had been shot by hunters. One of the civilian refugees in their midst,Irena Bokiewicz, the great-niece of General Boles aw Wieniawa-D ugoszowski, taken with the cub, prompted Lieutenant Anatol Tarnowiecki to buy the young bear, which spent the next three months in a Polish refugee camp established near Tehran, principally under Irena's care.In August, the bear was donated to the 2nd Transport Company, which later became the 22nd Artillery Supply Company(22nd-ASC),and he was named Wojtek by the soldiers.Wojtek is the nickname of "Wojciech" (Happy Warrior).
Wojtek initially had problems swallowing and was fed milk from an old vodka bottle. He was subsequently given fruit, marmalade, honey, and syrup and even beer.Wojtek copied the soldiers, drinking beer, smoking, and even marching alongside them because he saw them do so.He enjoyed wrestling with the soldiers and was taught to salute when greeted. He soon became an unofficial mascot to all the units stationed nearby. With the 22nd Company,he moved to Iraq, and then through Syria, Palestine, and Egypt.Wojtek had his own caregiver, assigned to look after him. The cub grew up while on campaign, and by the time of the Battle of Monte Cassino,he weighed 90 kg.
From Egypt, the Polish II Corps was reassigned to fight alongside the British army from the Battles in North Africa.Regulations for the British transport ship, which was to carry them to Italy, forbade mascot and pet animals. To get around this restriction,Wojtek was officially drafted into the Polish Army as a private and listed among the soldiers of 22nd-ASC.During the Battle of Monte Cassino,Wojtek helped his unit convey ammunition by carrying 100-pound crates of 25-pound artillery shells, which normally required four men, never dropping any of them. This earned him promotion to the rank of corporal. In recognition of Wojtek's popularity,a depiction of a bear carrying an artillery shell was adopted as the official emblem of the 22nd Company.
After the end of World War II,Wojtek was transported to Scotland, with the rest of 22nd-ASC.They were stationed at Winfield Airfield.Wojtek soon became popular among the locals, and the Polish-Scottish Association made him an honorary member.Following demobilisation on 15 November 1947,Wojtek was given to Edinburgh Zoo,where he spent the rest of his life, often visited by journalists and former Polish soldiers. He still happily responded to being spoken to in Polish, recognizing many of his former unit.Media attention contributed to Wojtek's popularity. He was a frequent guest on BBC television's programme.Wojtek died in December 1963,weighing nearly 500 kg,and over 1.8 m tall.

URUMQI -- Standing atop a 100-meter dune in the Huludao scenic area, located in the Bayingolin
Mongolian autonomous prefecture in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Helen Wong Lam gazes out at the golden populus euphratica forests, camera in hand.
"It's exhilarating!" exclaimed Lam,who traveled from Hong Kong to Kashgar with six friends, immersing themselves in Xinjiang's autumn charm for over half a month, all the way to this golden paradise.
"Capturing autumn's vibrant colours in Xinjiang's wilderness is a completely new experience," said the 70-year-old.
Huludao, or Calabash Island, named for its shape, sits along the eastern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, where the Tarim River winds through sands, creating a 2,000-mu oasis.
Dotted with swaying golden populus euphratica forests, this once-isolated area has now emerged as a popular autumn destination, drawing visitors from near and far to admire its unique desert-meets-water splendor.
"In recent years, our company has worked closely with the local government to improve infrastructure, boost accessibility, and create new tourist amenities(便利设施), all to enhance the visitor experience," said Zhang Jie, a manager at the scenic area.
Noting that October is the peak season, the manager added that campgrounds and guest rooms have been fully booked this month, with many guests even reserving as early as May.
Along the riverbanks, an array of vehicles reflected the area's popularity, with license plates from distant provinces like Yunnan, Zhejiang, and Guangdong. Some visitors strolled leisurely, while others used drones to capture vibrant moments against the golden autumn backdrop. Photographers claimed the best vantage points, and live-streamers shared the scenery with eager audiences online.
As the tourist influx rises, local authorities and the management team remain mindful of the need to balance development with nature conservation. "The unspoiled natural beauty is the most captivating aspect of this breathtaking scenery," said Zhang.

The number of marriage registrations has been declining in China since 2013. The only exception was 2023, which witnessed the post-pandemic "compensatory(补偿性的) marriage wave". But in the very next year, that is, in 2024, the number of marriage registrations touched a new low, with only 6.1 million couples tying the knot.
The decline in the number of marriage registrations is a complex issue with multiple contributing factors. But it is primarily driven by demographic changes, the population's age structure in particular. Due to the family planning measures before 2015 — when all couples were allowed to have two children — the number of people aged 20-39, the typical marriageable age, decreased by about 50 million from 2014 to 2022. This is the main factor behind the declining marriage registrations. And given the current demographic trend, marriage registrations are likely to continue declining in the foreseeable future.
The problem is not that youths are unwilling to marry.Instead, the financial pressure associated with marriage, such as high housing prices, extravagant bride prices and the rising cost of children's education, have made marriage a financial burden that many youths aren't ready to shoulder. In big cities, where most youths are concentrated, the cost of marriage can deplete a family's wealth, making marriage a "luxury" that many are unwilling to pay for.
Another key reason for the declining marriage rate is the traditional Chinese view on marriage and childbirth. For many, marriage is well connected with starting a family. But today's youths don't necessarily view marriage as a step toward parenthood. So to avoid their parents' pressure to have a child as soon as they get married, many youths delay their marriage, with some refusing to ever get married.
Besides, the difficulties and complexities of divorce have made some youths reluctant(不情愿的) to tie the knot.In surveys, many youths have said they find the potential costs, both emotional and financial, of marriage too high. Although laws and policies have been implemented to stabilize marriages, many youths still have "marriage phobia".
Despite concerns, the decline in marriages doesn’t necessarily mean social instability. Many Chinese still marry eventually, and unmarried individuals with stable jobs don’t threaten social harmony. While economists warn of lower birth rates and aging populations, these changes take decades, and short-term marriage boosts won’t quickly reverse demographic trends.
To address the issue, simply urging young people to marry isn’t enough.Solutions must focus on reducing financial burdens, such as lowering housing and education costs, curbing excessive bride prices, and ensuring stable, well-paying jobs.Society should also respect diverse views on marriage and avoid pressuring youth.
Ultimately, sustained economic growth and social stability are key.If young people feel financially secure and hopeful about the future, they’ll be more willing to marry.By tackling these challenges,China can create a better environment for youth to build families without fear.
32. Which of the following is not implied about young people’s views on marriage
A.Some delay marriage to avoid parental pressure on having children.
B. Many consider marriage a financial risk rather than a necessity.
C. Most believe that marriage is no longer relevant in modern society.
D. Some fear the emotional and financial consequences of divorce.
33. What does the text suggest about short-term solutions to boost marriage rates
A. They can quickly reverse the declining birth rate.
B. They are unlikely to have an immediate effect on demographics.
C. They will eliminate young people’s financial concerns.
D. They have already proven successful in big cities.
34. Based on the passage, how might reducing financial burdens affect marriage rates
A.It would immediately lead to a rise in marriages.
B. It could make marriage more accessible but not guarantee an increase.
C.It would eliminate all social pressures related to marriage.
D.It has no significant connection to marriage decisions.
35. What is the author’s overall attitude toward the declining marriage rate
A.Alarmist, warning of a social crisis. B.Indifferent, seeing it as an inevitable trend.
C.Realistic, acknowledging challenges but not overstating dangers.
D.Optimistic, believing it will naturally resolve itself.

When 17-year-old Quattro Musser hangs out with friends, they don’t drink beer or cruise around in cars with their dates. 41 , they stick to G-rated activities such as rock-climbing or talking about books.
They are in good company, according to a new study showing that teenagers are increasingly delaying activities that had long been seen as rites of passage into 42 .The study, published Tuesday in the journal Child Development, found that the percentage of adolescents in the U. S. who have a driver’s license, who have tried alcohol, who date, and who work for pay has plummeted since 1976, with the most precipitous 43 in the past decade. The declines appeared across race, geographic, and socioeconomic lines, and in rural, urban, and suburban areas.
To be sure, more than half of teens still engage in these activities, but the 44 have slimmed considerably. Between 1976 and 1979, 86 percent of high school seniors had gone on a date; between 2010 and 2015 only 63 percent People say, Oh, it’s because teenagers are more responsible, or more lazy, or more boring, “but they’re 45 the larger trend,” said Jean Twenge, lead author of the study, which drew on seven large time-lag surveys of Americans. Rather, she said, kids may be less 46 in activities such as dating, driving or getting jobs because in today’ s society.
According to an evolutionary psychology theory that a person’s “life strategy” slows down or speeds up depending on his or her 47 , exposure to a “harsh and unpredictable” environment leads to faster development, while a more resource-rich and secure environment has the 48 effect, the study said. In the first 49 , “You’d have a lot of kids and be in survival mode, start having kids young, expect your kids will have kids young, and expect that there will be more 50 and fewer resources,” said Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State University who is the author of “iGen; Why Today’s Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy — and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood.
A century ago, when life expectancy was lower and college education less prevalent, “the goal back then was survival, not violin lessons by 5,” Twenge said. In that model a teenage boy might be thinking more 51 about marriage, and driving a car and working for pay would be important for “establishing mate value based on procurement of resources,” the study said.
But America is shifting more toward the 52 model, and the change is apparent across the socioeconomic spectrum, Twenge said. “Even in families whose parents didn’t have a college education... families are smaller, and the idea that children need to be carefully 53 has really sunk in.” The 54 of “adult activities” could not be attributed to more homework or extracurricular activities, the study said, noting that teens today spend fewer hours on homework and the same amount of time on extracurricular as they did in the 1990s ( with the exception of community service, which has risen slightly). Nor could the use of smartphones and the Internet be entirely the 55 , the report said, since the decline began before they were widely available. If the delay is to make room for creative exploration and forming better social and emotional connections, it is a good thing, he said.
