Costa Rica (哥斯达黎加) is not a traditional northern country. Here you do not have the turn of four different seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. It only has two seasons: dry season and wet season. So for tourists, when is the best time to go to Costa Rica
Most people like visiting Costa Rica in the dry season. The sun shines brightly almost every day from December to April and people won’t get wet. This allows them to visit more places during the trip.
The best thing to do in Costa Rica in the dry season is to enjoy the beaches. The sunny weather allows people to enjoy the fun beach activities like swimming and surfing (冲浪). If you want quieter beaches perfect for swimming, you can visit the Gulf of Papagayo (帕帕加约海湾) and Peninsula Papagayo (帕帕加约半岛). If you want beaches perfect for surfing, go to beaches like Tamarindo (塔马林多), Playa Grande (格兰德海滩).
The wet season is also great for vacation. The hotel price is not high and there are much fewer visitors around. In the wet season, Costa Rica shows its green scenery (风景). The rain from May to November helps the rainforest grow. Waterfalls get stronger as more water flows in the rivers. And, you can go out and see all of this.
The wet season doesn’t mean that you can’t leave your hotel. The rain usually comes in the afternoons and the mornings are often sunny and dry. So you are still able to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the rainy months of Costa Rica.

Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here is some advice for you.
Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t try to talk about something with your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t listen to you if you are shouting at them. Go somewhere else to cool off. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you think you can’t speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter to them.
Try to understand your parents. Your parents may think differently from you. Tell your parents what you think, what you care about and why. Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. Put yourself in their shoes and you may find a better way out. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to an agreement. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
Show your love to your parents. Try to do some small things at home, like making them a cup of tea, helping do some chores, and so on. It helps to keep your relationship closer. A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try.

Country music is a kind of American popular music. It first came from the countryside of the southern United States as early as the 1920s. It joins American folk music to western music. Blues, a kind of music full of deep unhappiness, has also been widely used in it since its recorded history. Singers were usually singing while they themselves were performing the instruments, such as guitars, banjos and drums. Nashville in Tennessee was once the home of American country music. It became popular in the 1940s.
In the 1950s, country music was mainly about love—getting or losing a boyfriend or girlfriend, and money was also thought to be another important thing.
Then in the 1960s, song writers turned to other subjects. During these years many young students were angry with the society, so songs were often full of angry feelings. Political leaders were not well thought of and those songs often made fun of them.
During the 1990s, country music became more and more popular. Song writers no longer wrote about the modern USA—money, success or expensive things to buy. Instead, they were writing once more about things that were common for everyone: feeling alone in the modern world, missing good old days, the importance of having good friends and so on.
In 2009 in the United States, a record showed that country music was the most listened to when people were driving on their way home in the evening, and second most popular on their way to work in the morning.
Today country music has become a big money tree. It brings in between 200 and 400 million dollars a year for the people and the country. The music has reached all parts of USA, from Los Angeles in the west to New York in the east. Singers do not just come from USA but from all over the world. World Reading Day is held on April 23rd every year. On this day, we are encouraged to read more books. Reading is like opening a window to different worlds. Around 130 million books have been come out in the human history. A reader will read at most 6,000 books in his life. Most of them won’t be so much fun or very unforgettable. Books are like people. We meet many but only a few touch our hearts.
Perhaps we will only remember about 30 books. They will be different for each of us, but they affect (影响) us in similar ways.
Books make us show our feelings better. When we see a bird flying in the sky, we have a beautiful feeling, but we may find it hard for us to use words to show our feelings and finally we just say, “That’s so nice.” However, a good writer can describe it wonderfully. He shows us the angle (角度) of the wing, the slow movement of the largest branch (树枝) of a tree and the angle of the mouth in a smile.
Great writers build bridges for us in order to communicate with each other. They describe the similar experiences of us, and show us what we can share with each other and how we can help each other.
They also help us to feel. By reading a book, we meet someone. Perhaps she is very beautiful, young, smart but dying, and we feel sad about her hurt and the unfairness of the world. Or perhaps she is poor, weak but hard-working, and we find the courage to face the difficulties in life through her story.

“Without music, life would be a mistake.” Music is a big part of our lives. But in these years, some US schools have cut music classes to save money.
For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired (解雇) over 1, 000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught us or music. I fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That’s partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn’t tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often.
However, learning music is beneficial (有益的) in many ways.
When playing music, you need different abilities (能力) to work together. It is not as simple as it looks. For example, When playing the piano, people see music notes and decode (解码) them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.
Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music: Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck (马克斯·普朗克) was talented in playing the piano.

There are many famous singers from Britain, Canada and Australia. A lot of them appear on television too.
