Hans Christian Andersen was born in 1805 in Denmark. His parents were very poor. His father made shoes. But he didn’t sell many shoes. So there wasn’t much money.

In southwest China’s Chongqing, more subway lines are rolling out (延伸) to the rural areas (农村区域) around the city, particularly (特别是) Line 4. People are afraid of difficulties, but sometimes it’s the difficulties and challenges that make us better people. Cece Bell’s story is a good example. When she was four years old, Cece Bell became deaf and had to wear a hearing aid. Fifteen years ago, Liu Xiuxiang was famous as a university student, because he took his sick mother to his university. Now he is famous again as “the most beautiful teacher” for his kindness to his students.
When Liu was 4, his father died. His mother was so sad that she developed many health problems. When Liu was 10, his 17-year-old brother and two sisters, 13 and 19, left home to find jobs.
Liu had to take care of his mother and make money while studying. When he was at middle school, Liu made about 20 yuan a week by collecting rubbish. During summer vacations, he worked 18 hours a day to make money. He learned only by getting an education could he change his life.

On February 17th, 2021, Mao Xianglin from Chongqing got the title (称号) of “Touching China 2020 Person of the Year”. People call him a modern version (版本) of Yu Gong.
In 1959, Mao Xianglin was born in a small village. It’s a village with steep cliffs (陡峭的悬崖) of more than 1,100 meters high. In 1997, he became the head of the village. Then he made a decision to build a road to the outside world. At that time, many villagers thought he was crazy, because they believed it was impossible. However, Mao Xianglin never gave up. He said to the villagers, “If we want to become rich, we must build a road to the outside world.” At the same time, he tried his best to raise money for it.
