Medha Pappula, an eighth-grader at Brambleton Middle School, is using her skill set to solve a problem — bullying(霸凌). She recently earned an award (获奖) from National Bullying Prevention Center (NBPC) for her anti-bullying efforts in software development and animation (动画).
Pappula, 13, said she discovered that a classmate had experienced cyberbullying(网络霸凌), which was painful for her to learn about. “Even though I didn’t experience it, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, even my worst enemy,” Pappula said.
Then she developed a program that recognizes when digital and text-based messages include bullying language. The program takes a message, and then recognizes signs of bullying and gives a rating to the cyberbullying, the teen said. If the rating is high, she said, “the program can be used to carry out things like removing that message or reporting it.”
Pappula first designed and tested the program for Discord, a popular community-based messaging platform (平台), and said she plans to develop it for even bigger platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
In addition to this program, the NBPC awarded Pappula for a three-minute animated video about Unity Day, which she created and shared on YouTube last October. Unity Day, according to the video, was started by the NBPC in 2011 to raise bullying awareness among school-age children. Schools encourage their students to wear orange on Unity Day, as it is “a color that is connected with safety,” the website reads.
Pappula visited different websites to develop her animation skills several years ago. She spent more than a month creating her 2-D animated video using an animation software called Krita. The effort paid off, as nearly 6,000 people have already viewed the “Unity Day” video on YouTube. Along with being posted to the NBPC webpage, her animation was also shared by Cartoon Network. Moving forward, Pappula hopes to continue to work with the NBPC and to use her skills to lift those around her.
24.How did Pappula feel about bullying
A.It upset her life a lot. B.It could be stopped easily.
C.It happened online most often. D.It shouldn’t happen to anyone.
25.How does Pappula’s program work
A.By sending voice messages.
B.By removing useless messages.
C.By sending its users important reports.
D.By grading messages according to the language used.
26.What did Pappula do to make the animated video
A.She asked the NBPC for help. B.She taught herself animation.
C.She learned from an expert. D.She created Krita.
27.Which word can best describe Pappula
A.Honest. B.Caring. C.Polite. D.Proud.

Many of China’s ancient buildings were in danger of being destroyed before Lin Huiyin and Liang Sicheng started recording them in the 1930s. Thu husband-and-wife team were among the first people to work on protecting these buildings in China, and they are also the most well-known. Their efforts have inspired generations of people to speak out for architecture that is threatened by rapid development.
Becoming China’s best architectural historians was anything but an easy task. The buildings they wanted to save were centuries old and often located in distant parts of the country. In many cases, they had to travel through dangerous areas in the Chinese countryside to reach them. During the 1930s, exploring remote areas in China meant traveling on muddy, poorly maintained roads by mule or on foot. Inns (客栈) were often dirty, food could be polluted, and there was always a risk of violence from rebels, soldiers, and robbers.
Their greatest discovery was the Temple of Buddha’s Light in Wutai County, Shanxi Province. The breathtaking wooden temple was rebuilt in 857 AD, making it the oldest building known in China at the time. Liang and Lin crawled into the temple’s most forbidden, forgotten areas to determine its age. One area they explored was inhabited by thousands of bats and millions of bedbugs, covered in dust and littered with dead bats.
“In complete darkness and among an awful smell, hardly breathing, with thick masks covering our noses and mouths, we measured, drew, and took pictures with flashlights for several hours. When we finally came out to take a breath of fresh air, we found hundreds of bedbugs in our bag. We ourselves had been badly bitten. However, the importance and unexpectedness of our find made those hours the happiest of my years hunting for ancient architecture.” Liang wrote about his experience in a book called Liang and Lin: Partners in Exploring Chin’s Architectural Past.

To be clear: Food noise has nothing to do with hunger or food shortage, says Lawrence Cheskin, a professor of nutrition and food studies at George Mason University. It’s about being absorbed in thoughts about food.
In an issue of the journal Nutrients, researchers defined food noise as something that can be caused by internal signs such as your stomach growling with hunger or external signs such as seeing or smelling delicious foods. These signs can cause food-related thoughts to start playing on a repetitive cycle.
“Imagine you have a picture chart — think about what percentage of the day is spent thinking about food,” says Susan Albers, a clinical psychologist. “For those with a lot of food noise, 80 to 90 percent of their day is spent thinking about food.” “For those with intrusive food noise, it might affect their sleep, or lead to shame around eating or anxious thoughts,” says Goldman. “It can get in the way of someone being able to function at their best.” By contrast, those with mild food noise may hardly notice it.
Anyone can experience food noise but people with obesity or overweight often struggle with food noise more than other people do, which can make it difficult to lose weight. Other people include those with an eating disorder or disordered eating pattern. Also, if you have a lot of food rules or you’ve been dieting off and on for years, you may be more likely to experience food noise. “There’s a lot of shame and judgment around food noise,” Albers says. “It can impact relationships, leading to social withdrawal, and reduce people’s engagement in other areas of their life.”
Keep in mind, however, that food noise is a common suffering. “Don’t beat yourself up for it. Instead, exercise some self-sympathy,” Goldman suggests. “The way we talk to ourselves matters, so be mindful about what you’re saying to yourself about food noise.”
32. What do we know about the food noise
A. It’s the noise people make while eating.
B. It’s only for people with weight issues.
C. It’s related to food shortage and causes hunger.
D. It refers to repeated food thoughts due to signs.
33. What does the underlined word “intrusive” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Annoying. B. Inviting. C. Available. D. Unnoticeable.
34. How does food noise affect people’s life
A. It leads to severe weight gain. B. It brings about regular eating habits.
C. It results in a lack of social activities. D. It causes sleep disorders and overeating.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Food noise is not a serious problem.
B. Being kind to yourself is helpful.
C. Talking to others about food noise matters.
D. People should blame themselves for food noise.
Does your teenager seem addicted to the Internet Probably yes. 36 At first, parents welcome the Internet into their homes, believing they are opening up an exciting new world of educational chances for their children. 37 Instead of using the Internet for homework or research, they are spending hours messaging with friends, playing online games or talking to strangers in chat rooms.
Keeping a healthy balance between entertainment media and other activities in their children’s lives has always been a challenge for parents. The Internet has made this challenge even more difficult. 38
However, parents are usually not aware that there is a problem until it becomes serious. This is because it is easy to hide what you are doing online and Internet addiction is not widely recognized by the medical community.
Children and young people can easily become hooked on online activities such as multi-player games, instant messaging and chat rooms. The most vulnerable children are those who are unpopular or shy with peers.
39 Boys, in particular, are frequent users of online role-playing games, where they assume new identities and interact with other players. For the children who are not so outgoing, playing these games with thousands of other users may apparently be a social activity. 40 . So parents need to help children limit the online time to an appropriate amount.
A.That is especially obvious when it comes to online social games.
B.In fact, playing too much can further keep them away from friends and peers.
C.The amount of time teenagers spend online is a source of concern for many parents.
D.But numerous parents don’t discover this worrying situation and ignore it naturally.
E.However, many parents soon realize that their kids were gradually becoming Internet addicts.
F.The engaging nature of the Internet makes many children lose track of time when they’re online.
G.They can be easily attracted to the opportunities for creating new identities in online communities.

American Food Culture:A Blend of Flavors
American food culture is a vivid reflection of the nation's history as a "melting pot”,combining traditionsfrom immigrants worldwide. This mixing has resulted in a cuisine known for ts wide variety, focus onconvenience, and often satisfying flavors. While constantly developing, several symbolic foods stand out.
First, the hamburger is perhaps the most recognized symbol of American fast food.It features a grilledground beef cake served inside a soft bun(小圆面包).Common toppings include fresh lettuce, tomato slices, onion and sauces like ketchup.or mustard.Loved for being quick and satisfying,it's a common meal foundeverywhere from roadside stands to restaurants, representing America's fast-paced lifestyle.
Second, apple pie holds a special place as a symbol of American tradition and comfort food. This classicdessert consists of sweet, cooked apple slices baked inside a crust(面包皮).It's often served warm, sometimeswith a scoop of ice cream melting on top.The saying“as American as apple pie”perfectly captures its connectionto feelings of home and national identity.
Third, barbecue(BBQ)displays America's strong regional food traditions. It contains cooking meats likechicken,or pork slowly over low, indirect heat, often using wood smoke for extra flavor.BBQ is more than food;it's often a social event centered around outdoor cooking.
In summary, diversity is central in American food culture, influenced by Native American,European,African,Latin American, and Asian cooking.People highly value convenience, leading to the popularity of fastfood and pre-packaged meals.Large portion sizes are common compared to many other countries. There's also anotable preference for sweet flavors in many dishes and drinks. Finally, significant regional differences persist, preserving local traditions like the various BBQ styles or coastal seafood specialties.American food remains aconstantly changing, delicious mixture of global influences and local tastes.

Text 10
M: Historic England is an organization that advises the government on how to look after traditional buildings and places. It has chosen 60 of the best photos from the public for an outdoor exhibition about everyday life called Picturing High Streets. The pictures range from portraits of people to photos of cafes and shops. The exhibition is touring England, starting in Derby from 17 March to 9 April. The photos will be shown in different ways, such as in shop windows and on big advertising boards. In London, the show will also feature photos by Jamil, who has been working with primary school pupils. Jamil told The Week Junior that a great high street “should be a place where people feel welcome and connected to their local community”. Jamil says that Petticoat Lane, where he took many of his photos, has these important ingredients.

根据第一段“Many of China’s ancient buildings were in danger of being destroyed before Lin Huiyin and Liang Sicheng started recording them in the 1930s. The husband-and-wife team were among the first people to work on protecting these buildings in China(在 20 世纪 30 年代林徽因和梁思成开始记录中国古建筑之前,许多古建筑都面临被破坏的危险。
根据第二段“The buildings they wanted to save were centuries old and often located in distant parts of the country. In many cases, they had to travel through dangerous areas in the Chinese countryside to reach them. During the 1930s, exploring remote areas in China meant traveling on muddy, poorly maintained roads by mule or on foot. Inns (客栈) were often dirty, food could be polluted, and there was always a risk of violence from rebels, soldiers, and robbers.(他们想要拯救的建筑已有数百年历史,而且常常位于该国偏远地区。 故选A。

When we finally came out to take a breath of fresh air, we found hundreds of bedbugs in our bag. We ourselves had been badly bitten. However, the importance and unexpectedness of our find made those hours the happiest of my years hunting for ancient architecture.(在完全黑暗和难闻的气味中,几乎无法呼吸,我们用厚口罩捂住口鼻,用手电筒测量、绘图和拍照了几个小时。

根据第二段“In an issue of the journal Nutrients, researchers defined food noise as something that can be caused by internal signs such as your stomach growling with hunger or external signs such as seeing or smelling delicious foods. These signs can cause food-related thoughts to start playing on a repetitive cycle.
故选A。
根据第四段““There’s a lot of shame and judgment around food noise,” Albers says. “It can impact relationships, leading to social withdrawal, and reduce people’s engagement in other areas of their life.”

37.根据上文“At first, parents welcome the Internet into their homes, believing they are opening up an exciting new world of educational chances for their children.”(起初,父母欢迎互联网进入他们的家,相信他们正在为他们的孩子打开一个令人兴奋的教育机会的新世界。) 空后“Instead of using the Internet for homework or research, they are spending hours messaging with friends, playing online games or talking to strangers in chat rooms.”(他们不是用互联网做作业或研究,而是花几个小时和朋友发信息,玩网络游戏或在聊天室和陌生人聊天。) However, many parents soon realize that their kids were gradually becoming Internet addicts.(然而,许多家长很快就意识到他们的孩子正在逐渐成为网瘾者。)
38.根据上文“Keeping a healthy balance between entertainment media and other activities in their children’s lives has always been a challenge for parents. The Internet has made this challenge even more difficult.”(对于父母来说,在娱乐媒体和孩子生活中的其他活动之间保持健康的平衡一直是一个挑战。 The engaging nature of the Internet makes many children lose track of time when they’re online.(互联网吸引人的本质使许多孩子上网时忘记了时间。)
39.根据上文“The most vulnerable children are those who are unpopular or shy with peers.”(最容易受影响的孩子是那些不受欢迎或在同龄人面前害羞的孩子。)提到最容易受影响的孩子,以及下文“Boys, in particular, are frequent users of online role-playing games, where they assume new identities and interact with other players.”(尤其是男孩,他们是在线角色扮演游戏的常客,在那里他们扮演新的身份并与其他玩家互动。) They can be easily attracted to the opportunities for creating new identities in online communities.(他们很容易被在网络社区中创造新身份的机会所吸引。)
40.根据上文“For the children who are not so outgoing, playing these games with thousands of other users may apparently be a social activity.”(对于那些不那么外向的孩子来说,与成千上万的其他用户一起玩这些游戏显然是一种社交活动。) 以及下文“So parents need to help children limit the online time to an appropriate amount.”(所以父母需要帮助孩子限制上网时间到一个适当的量。) In fact, playing too much can further keep them away from friends and peers.(事实上,玩得太多会让他们远离朋友和同龄人。)可知,选项中的them指代前文提到的the children who are not so outgoing,符合语境。
“shape”有“塑造”之意,“Travel has shaped my life since I was18 years old.”
B。“Through travelling, I have got a few life lessons along the way.
C。“Though we couldn’t speak the same language, she gestured for me to follow her.”
“deepen”有“加深”的意思,“It also deepens cultural understanding.”表明旅行能加深文化理解,强调对文化理解程度上的深入,“expands(扩展,侧重范围大)”“improves(改善,侧重于变得更好)”“broadens(拓宽,多针对范围等变宽)”都不如“deepen”准确表达对理解深度方面的影响。
D。“feel the cool mud under your feet”是符合英语表达习惯且符合常理的描述,意为“感受到脚下凉凉的泥巴”,在描述行走时身体部位与感受的对应关系上,用“feet”恰当,“head(头)”“eyes(眼睛)”“legs(腿)”不符合此处表达脚下感受的语境。
B。“I’ve experienced countless acts of kindness from...”
“attend”用于描述参加婚礼等正式场合时是比较地道的用法,“One even attended my wedding years later!”表示有人后来出席了作者的婚礼,“joined(加入,更多用于加入某个组织、群体等)”“visited(参观;拜访,侧重去某地访问)”“celebrated(庆祝,通常是参与庆祝活动本身)”都不如“attended”准确用于描述参加婚礼这个场景。
后文提到“Later, when I tried to repay him...”
D。“His words strengthened my belief that...”
A。“The wor ld mirrors your mindset.”
59. will collect
Recently, students in our class have had a heated discussion on whether AI tools should be used to aid in our homework.
Firstly, 40% of us use AI tools for weekend homework, primarily for problem-solving, tutoring, and data organization. Significantly, 60% emphasize AI should remain an aid — not a replacement —to safeguard creativity against rushed “catch-up” assignments. Crucially, 80% hold the view that we would get rid of "AI flavor” such as generic phrasing and superficial analysis rather than avoid AI entirely.
From my perspective, I strongly support this balanced approach. AI offers personalized, efficient support especially for complex tasks, freeing time for critical thinking. However, students are supposed to actively engage with outputs. This transforms AI from a shortcut into a true intellectual tool.
