10 January,a wedding ceremony,India
When Nadim invited me to his sister's wedding, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime. I was definitely not wrong!
The wedding ceremony took place in a brightly decorated hotel room. There were hundreds of guests, all dressed up in formal, colourful clothes. According to tradition, the bride was wearing an eye-catching red silk sari.
I did not understand all of the traditional customs, but a few made a deep impression on me. One was the bridegroom's entrance on a beautiful white horse. I had never seen that back home! Another was the part when Nadim's father proudly led his daughter through the rows of seats to her husband. It reminded me of my sister's wedding.Although our cultures are so different, the smiling faces are the same.
The customs that followed were anything but ordinary. The couple joined hands and walked around a small fire four times. Then they took seven steps together by the fire, and with each step made a different promise about how they were going to support each other and live together happily. It was very romantic!
After the ceremony, it was time for the celebrations. That is a story for another day, but let's just say there was a lot of dancing. Now I know I have two left feet... and both of them hurt!

When was the last time your family sat down together to have a dinner
The speed at which we live today no longer allows for slow eating habits. Most people work long hours. There is lots of fast food and eating out is now on the increase. Often, food is eaten in front of the television in silence, or a child eats alone in front of the computer.
When I was a child, every evening around the same time, one of the children would be asked to set the table, and then we’d go and wash our hands before the meal. This was the time of day when we would talk about our day at school. But now things have changed a lot.
A family environment plays an important role for children in learning to communicate with others and understanding table manners, such as waiting for others to finish before leaving the table and not speaking with a mouth full of food. Parents’ likes and dislikes of a certain food will also influence a child’s own likes and dislikes. Studies have shown that children who often eat with their families have better results at school than children who eat with their families less than twice a week.
Regular meal times give children the chance to discuss their problems with family members. They can also learn to respect others around the table. Talking to your children over dinner is the best way of having their trust. Children learn good eating habits from their parents at a very young age. Family meals are important. Prepare them for your children.
Some families eat less together because _________.
A.people are busy with their work
B.most children live in a school
C.food in the restaurant is better
D.table manners change a lot
29. While the writer was young , he_________.
A.never had meals with his families.
B.he usually left the table before others finish their meals
C.he enjoyed having meals together with his families
D.had meals with his families in the same way as now.
30. Children who often eat with their families _________.
A.prefer to share food with others.
B.turn out to do better in their studies.
C.show concerns about families.
D.are interested in cooking.
31. Who do you think this passage is written for
A.children. B.students. C.parents. D.grandparents.

The traditional Chinese solar calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms. The Spring Equinox Chinese (春分), as the fourth term of the year starts on March 21 and ends on April 5 this year.
The Spring Equinox signals the equal length of the day and night time. On the day of the Spring Equinox, sun is directly above the equator. After the equinox, the sun moves northwards, resulting in gradually longer day time in the Northern Hemisphere and longer night in the Southern Hemisphere.
Here are 6 things you may not know about the Spring Equinox.
Swallows fly north
The ancient Chinese people divided the fifteen days of the Spring Equinox into three “hou’s,” or five-dayparts. As the old saying goes, swallows fly back to the North in the first hou; thunder cracks the sky in the second hou; lightning occurs frequently in the third hou, which vividly reveals the climate feature during the Spring Equinox.
Egg-standing games
Standing an egg upright is a popular game across the country during the Spring Equinox. It is an old custom that dates back to 4, 000 years ago. People practice this tradition to celebrate the coming of spring. It is believed that if someone can make the egg stand, he will have good luck in the future.
Flying kites
Spring Equinox is a good time to fly kites. In ancient times, people did not have good medical resources. So to pray for health, they wrote their medical issues on paper kite. When the kite was in the air, people would cut off the string to let the paper kite float away, symbolizing the flying away of diseases.
Later flying kites developed into a popular game of spring. On the Spring Equinox, people write a blessing on the kite, hoping that the gods in the sky would see it.
Eating spring vegetables
Eating spring vegetables during the Spring Equinox is a commonly practiced custom in many regions of China. ‘Spring vegetables’ refers to seasonal vegetables that differ from place to place. The ancient teachings in the Chinese classic, Huangdi Neijing, suggests that people eat seasonal foods to help preserve health and bring good luck.
Sacrifice to the Sun god
During the Spring Equinox, an old tradition practiced by Beijing locals is offering sacrifices to the Sun god. This tradition is called “Zhonghe Festival”. The “Sun Cake”, a round cake made from wheat and sugar, serves as the main offering.
Reward farm cattle
This practice is popular in the southern area of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. As the Spring Equinox comes, farm work starts and both the farmers and the cattle start to become busy. Farmers will reward cattle with sticky rice balls to express their gratefulness. Meanwhile, people will also make sacrifice to birds, to thank them for bringing signals for farm work and to ask them not to eat grains later in the year.
Which of the following is true about the Spring Equinox
A.It falls on March 20 every year.
B.The day time is longer than night time.

It was the first week of Mia's middleschool. The bell's ringing brought her outof her daydreaming. She nervouslygathered her books, preparing to reachanother classroom for the next new class.
Mia followed the other kids andrushed into the hallway. Others walked ingroups, chatted, and laughed, using thebreak to socialize. Mia, instead, walked alone along the wall of the hallway, with her head down. She was a shy girl, afraid to speak in front of other kids, and didn't think others would like her.
Mia finally sat in Mr. Johnson's Language Arts class nervously. “Welcome to Language Arts,” said Mr.Johnson.He told jokes as he talked about English. Mia forgot to daydream and laughed along with the rest of the class.“We'll have some fun with language,” he said. “Just wait and see.”
Fun was far beyond what Miadesired. She just wanted to be like other kids-running with friends in the hallway, laughing and joking between classes. Reminded of her pimply(长粉刺的)face, she felt hopeless and disappointed.
"Take out a piece of paper," the teacher continued, when pointing at words on the blackboard."Write for the next thirty minutes on this topic." Mia began writing crazily as idea after idea fought for recognition in her head. The final result was a short story about a beautiful beach house. As she wrote, she could smell the salty air, hear the crashing waves and feel the pull of the sand beneath her feet. For just a moment, she forgot where she was.She was lost in the story.
“OK, pass your papers forward,”Msaid the teacher.“Let's see what we have.”For the rest of the class time, the teacher read each individual work aloud.Mia originally thought it would be awkward. However, she was gradually attracted by the excitement in the teacher's voice. “He's actually enjoying this,” she thought. When the class was soon over, there were stll fifteen students' papers not read, including Mia's paper. Then, Mr.Johnson announced his decision, asking these students to read their work themselves in front of the class next class.

My Favorite Traditional Chinese Festival
As we all know, there are many traditional festivals in China. Among them, I like the Spring Festival best.
It comes in January or February. It is time for family members to get together. On the eve of the Spring Festival, all family members enjoy different kinds of food, such as dumplings and fish. We also watch the Spring Festival Gala and stay up late, hoping to have a new start in the following year. During the Spring Festival, people often visit their relatives and close friends. Children are very excited
because they can receive lucky money from elders.
In short, I like the Spring Festival better than any other festival. It gives me more pleasure than I can imagine.
续写范文
Paragraph 1:
A week later, the bell rang and the Language Arts class began again. Mia was nervous with her head down. After other students finished reading the papers one by one, finally, it was Mia's turn. Frozen with fear, Mia stood in front of the class, with her hands holding her paper, shaking. Seeing it, Mr.Johnson told a funny joke, which made everyone laugh. Feeling more relaxed, Mia began reading. She was so focused that she felt she was alone. She didn't notice that her story soon attracted all her classmates who sat up straight, without any chatting. They were lost in her fantastic story.
Paragraph 2:
After Mia finished her reading, the clapping from her classmates continued for a long time. Mia was shocked. When she raised her head, she found everyone staring at her excitedly. Mia finally smiled. She found everyone in the class responded to her story positively. After that class, Mia slowly lifted her head while walking. Later, she kept writing. And she began speaking in front of people and enjoyed it, A braver and more confident girl appeared. And she was grateful to Mr. Johnson who believed in every student.
