【原文】W: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our zoo. I’d like to introduce some new kind of animal — milu deer (麋鹿). This kind of deer can be found only in parks and zoos in our country now. Generally speaking, a milu deer grows to a height of 1.2 meters. And a grown-up deer weighs about 150 to 200 kilograms. In summer, the deer eat grass. In autumn, they eat nuts and fruits which fell from the trees of the forest. In winter, when there is very little other food, they eat the dry leaves of the trees. The grown-up females give birth to their young in summer. When the baby deer are strong enough to stand on their feet, they join their mothers. It’s very difficult to catch them because they can smell danger from a long way away. Besides, they can hear and see very well, too. The difference between a milu deer and other deer is that the coat of milu deer is bright red in summer and gray in winter, and that their feet are bigger and their tails are longer.

71.Dear Adam,
I’m glad to learn that you are planning to travel around China. I’m writing to extend my warm welcome.
I suggest that you go to Beijing for a visit. Beijing has much to offer the tourists. You can go to the Great Wall first. You are also strongly recommended to tour around the Forbidden City, whose character is well preserved despite its old age. Not only will you learn more about Chinese history, but you will also appreciate the charm of traditional Chinese architecture.
I hope you will enjoy your stay and have a good time travelling.
Yours,
Li Hua
That evening, my parents took me out. As we sat in a quiet corner of my favorite restaurant, the warm lighting softened the tension between us. My dad cleared his throat and said, "We know how much the concert meant to you." Mom added gently, "We've arranged for your uncle to drive you there and pick you up afterward." My heart leaped as they slid a concert ticket across the table, its shiny surface reflecting the candlelight like a promise.Tears welled up as I stammered, "I'm sorry for shouting... I didn't realize..." Dad patted my shoulder. "We trust you, but we needed time to make it safe." In that moment, I understood their love wasn't about restriction, but about creating wings strong enough to fly safely. (Deepseek版)2024—2025学年下学期第三学段教学质量检测

I couldn’t sleep at all last night, and my sister believes it was because I ate a bowl of really spicy (辛辣的) food before bedtime. However, I was skeptical about the connection between spicy foods and sleep. Can eating spicy foods before bedtime truly impact one’s sleep quality Some people believe that eating spicy foods before bedtime can disrupt(扰乱) sleep by increasing body temperature and causing heartburn. It may be worth avoiding spicy foods close to bedtime.
To find out the relation, the researchers in Australia conducted an experiment to investigate the effects of spicy foods on sleep. They provided a group of individuals with delicious late-night meals, alternating (交替) between spicy and mild options. The results revealed that consuming spicy foods led to disrupted sleep patterns, causing participants to take longer to fall asleep and sleep for shorter time. This data supported the belief that there is a correlation between eating spicy foods and experiencing sleep disturbances.
While the exact mechanism(机制)by which spicy foods influence sleep remains unclear, researchers have proposed several possibilities. One is that stomach discomfort resulting from spicy food consumption may affect sleep quality. Additionally, the long digestion (消化) of spicy foods could delay the start of sleep. Furthermore, spicy foods contain something that can raise body temperature, which has been linked to poor sleep in previous studies.
Given these findings, it is advisable to avoid consuming spicy foods before bedtime to promote better sleep. Next time, I will follow my sister’s advice and opt(选择)for a milder meal in the evening to ensure a restful night’s sleep.
32.What do people usually think of eating spicy foods before bedtime
A.It can make people addictive to it.
B.It can be bad for digestion.
C.It can make sleep difficult.

A.Spicy foods take long to digest.
B.Body temperature has no effect on sleep.
C.Bad eating habit changes sleep patterns.
D.Sleep problems may be caused by bad habits.
35.What is the purpose of this text
A.To forbid children from having spicy foods.
B.To suggest not eating spicy foods before bedtime.
C.To promote some healthy food that is not spicy.
D.To keep up with the latest healthy food research.

Is Fresh Air Really Good for You
We all grew up hearing people tell us to “go out and get some fresh air.” 36 According to recent studies, the answer is a big YES, if the air quality in your camping area is good.
37 If the air you’re breathing is clean—which it would be if you’re away from the smog of cities—then the air is filled with life-giving, energizing oxygen. If you exercise out of doors, your body will learn to breathe more deeply, allowing even more oxygen to get to your muscles(肌肉) and your brain.
Recently, people have begun studying the connection between the natural world and healing(治愈). 38 In these places patients can go to be near nature during their recovery. It turns out that just looking at green, growing things can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and put people into a better mood(情绪).Greenery is good for us. Hospital patients who see tree branches out their window are likely to recover at a faster rate than patients who see buildings or sky instead. 39 It gives us a great feeling of peace.
40 While the sun’s rays can age and harm our skin, they also give us beneficial Vitamin D . To make sure you get enough Vitamin D—but still protect your skin—put on sunscreen right as you head outside. It takes sunscreen about fifteen minutes to start working, and that’s plenty of time for your skin to absorb a day’s worth of Vitamin D .
A.Fresh air cleans our lungs.
B.So what are you waiting for
C.Being in nature refreshes us.
D.Another side benefit of getting fresh air is sunlight.
E.But is fresh air really as good for you as your mother always said
F.Just as importantly, we tend to associate air with health care.
G.All across the country, recovery centers have begun building Healing Gardens.

My name is Anderson, and there was a time when I had a serious conflict (冲突) with my parents. It all started when I heard about a really cool concert that all my friends were excited to go to. I really wanted to be a part of them. So, I gathered my courage and asked my parents if I could buy a ticket and go with my friends. The ticket was not expensive. So I thought they would agree to let me go to the concert.
However, when I told them about the concert, they started asking questions like, “Who will be there How will you get home late at night ” I tried to explain that my friends and I had it all figured out, but they didn’t believe me. My mom said, “Anderson, we are worried about your safety. And we don’t think it’s a good idea.”
I felt very disappointed. I said in anger, “But everyone else is going! It’s not fair that you won’t let me have any fun.” My dad then replied to me, “It’s not about fun, son. We need to think about your safety.” I just couldn’t understand why they couldn’t see it from my perspective (角度). I got really angry and shouted, “You never let me do anything I want! You don’t care about my feelings at all!” With these words, I stormed off to my room and slammed (关上) the door as hard as I could, feeling hurt and misunderstood.
A few days later, on my fifteenth birthday morning, I woke up, only to find a basketball on my bedside table, which was what I’d been looking forward to. Next to it was a sweet note from my parents, reading, “Happy birthday, Anderson!” It was a nice surprise. Though I still had a mix of feelings, yet I also felt sorry about how I had behaved before.
