“I’m so tired! Any suggestions for a good night’s sleep ” Not only is sleep a common topic of our small talk, we’ve also spent many years trying to understand and explain it. After all, we spend on average 26 years of our lives asleep. So, what do we know Here are the cool findings from many years of research.
One of the most interesting developments is in the study of lucid (清醒的) dreaming—it seems it’s possible to communicate with people while they’ re sleeping. In a study called “Real-time dialogue between experimenters and dreamers during REM sleep”, researchers asked the dreamers questions. The dreamers used eye or face movements to answer, and their answers were correct. This means our brain can still work, like using our memory, even when we’re asleep.
Sleep also helps with memory and solving problems. When we sleep, our brain replays the things that happened during the day, which helps us remember them better. And if you have a tricky (棘手的) problem, sleeping on it might really work. A study showed that people could solve tricky problems more easily the next day if their brains thought about the problems while they slept. So, if you have a tricky problem, rest up and return to it in the morning.
However, being short of sleep is bad for us. It can make us feel bad and have trouble controlling our emotions. But don’t worry! The UK’s National Health Service suggests some good tips. Go to bed at the same time every day, try “beditation (睡前冥想)”, and don’t drink coffee before sleep. These can help you sleep better.

On April 19, a special guest— Tiangong robot, showed up at the Beijing Marathon. A team of great Chinese scientists made this robot, which is a really cool new thing in robot technology.
Tiangong looked cool with its shiny white body and tall, human-like shape. It was about 1.8 meters tall, just like a young grown-up. Its bright “eyes”, which were actually cameras, and its body that could move easily caught everyone’s eye when it came to the race.
Nearly 12,000 human marathon lovers and 20 robot teams from all over the country took part in this competition. When the race began, Tiangong started running steadily (稳定地). It ran past famous places like the Paotong Avenue and the Wenbo Bridge. While running on busy streets, Tiangong was good at avoiding people who were cheering and things in the way. No matter how many turns there were or what the road was like, it didn’t run slower. It kept running at about 7–8 kilometers an hour. People along the road were very astonished. They couldn’t believe how well the robot ran. Some people even shouted, “Go, Tiangong, go!”
Because of its strong body and smart “brain”, Tiangong finished the hard 21-kilometer race. In the end, it won first place in the robot part of the marathon! This showed that robots can do amazing things, just like people. After the race, experts talked about how robots can help us in many areas, like saving people in danger or exploring far-away places. My Meaningful Weekend
Last weekend was both enjoyable and productive. On Saturday morning, I volunteered at a local library, helping to organize books and read stories to younger children. In the afternoon, I practiced playing the guitar, a hobby I’ve recently taken up. On Sunday, I joined a hiking trip with friends, enjoying nature and fresh air.
These activities taught me the value of balancing relaxation with personal growth. Volunteering gave me a sense of responsibility, while my hobbies and outdoor adventures refreshed my mind. Weekends are not just for rest but also for exploring passions and contributing to the community.
