Even if you shop with plastic bags, always remember to recycle them. Most families don’t realise the importance of eco-friendly living—especially children. So how can you help children start seeing green Well, here are a few suggestions.
Don’t buy toys—borrow instead. If kids are concerned, most toys start to lose their shine (光影). Don’t let the unloved toys gather dust around the house—instead, join a local toy library and give them to the library. And if you do buy new toys, try to buy toys made from wood and other eco-friendly materials.
Spend time outside. Make sure your child spends time learning to be outside. Let him or her get involved in nature by planting a tree, building a birdhouse, or taking a bike ride in a nearby park.
Teach green. Even if your child doesn’t receive an environmental education in the classroom, there’s no reason that you can’t spread the word at home. Let your kid help out with separating (分类) your recyclables.
Stick with eco-friendly entertainment. Most kids may not seem like to be interested in the subject on the environment, but put it in a TV show and they’ll change their minds. Give them a taste of the online cartoon show, and you’ll finally find the children learn it happily and relaxingly.

A. poor children B. sick kids C. schools D. a toy library

Can you say the meaning of “zero” Can you do addition and subtraction (加减法)? Most people can. But do you know bees can do these things too A study shows that bees have even greater maths abilities. After some training, they can know the difference between even numbers (ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8) and odd numbers (ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9).
Some Australian scientists put up different cards with an odd or even number of triangles (三角形). They used the numbers 1 to 10. Then they trained the first group of bees to choose odd numbers and the second group to choose even numbers. If a bee flew to the right card, it would get sugar water; if not, it got bitter water.
In a short time, all the bees knew what odd numbers or even numbers were. They could fly to the right numbers 80%of the time. After that, the scientists added new cards with the numbers 1l and 12. The bees never saw the numbers in their training before, but they could choose rightly 70% of the time. Surprisingly, the bees even learned odd numbers more quickly than humans.
How did the bees learn the numbers so fast Scientists believe that finding the answer will help them build better and faster computers. But they don’t have a clear idea yet. In fact, a bee’s brain is much smaller than ours!
28. How did the scientists show the numbers to the bees

I was coming home from school on the bus when I got a text message from Mike. He wanted to meet me at the Market Cross at 7 o’clock that evening and it was something urgent (紧急的) . It was a bit unusual. We’d planned to meet after school on Friday to prepare for our birdwatching as usual.
My name’s Don. I’m fifteen and I go to Blueway Comprehensive School. Mike is the same age and goes to the local grammar school, but we’ve been friends since junior school. We’ve been birdwatching together since we were 11. We do it every week, read about it and use the Internet to learn about birds and we’re members of a club for birdwatchers, too.
At 6. 45, I walked to Market Cross. Soon I saw him standing on the side of the road.
“Hi, Mike. What’s this about ” I asked at once.
“After this week of good weather followed by last night’s storm, I thought there might be some good birds about,” he said.
“And were there ” I asked. A smile played over Mike’s face. “Yes, osprey (鱼鹰). ”He said very quietly. “What!”, I shouted. “Osprey, and we’d better keep it secret.” he said again. I sat looking at him with my mouth open.
An osprey is a big hunting bird, which catches fish. There weren’t any in Britain because they’d been hunted too much. In 1954 a pair nested (筑巢) in Scotland. They were protected by a society because lots of people wanted osprey eggs for their collections. We’ve never seen one in our village.
Mike continued, “So, shall we go birdwatching tomorrow morning ”
“But do you think it’ll be there ” I asked.
“Birdwatcher!” he said. By which he meant that if I was a birdwatcher, I should know that nobody could say what a bird would or wouldn’t do at a particular (特定的) time.
“So, are you coming ”
“Oh…oh…alright,” I said, knowing my parents would be very angry. They thought I spent too much time birdwatching.
32. What can we infer (推断) according to the passage
A. Mike and Don go birdwatching every week.
B. Osprey is a kind of rare bird in Don’s hometown.

33. Which is the right order of what happened in the story
①Don and Mike met at Market Cross in their village.
②Don received a message from Mike on his way home.
③Mike invited Don to watch ospreys the next morning.
④Don and Mike planned to meet after school on Friday.
A. ②④①③⑤ B. ②⑤④③① C. ④②⑤③① D. ④⑤②①③
34. How did Don feel when he heard that Mike saw an osprey
A. Worried. B. Scared. C. Surprised. D. Proud.
35. What would the two boys probably do next
A. They would collect birds’ eggs for their collections.

VI. Reading Expression (5小题,每小题2分,共l0分)
When difficult people express themselves orally, they usually want at least two things: they are heard and they are understood. As a good communicator should be a good listener, five steps are towards good listening.
The first step is cooperating (合作). How does a difficult person know that you’re listening and understanding In fact, it’s through the way you look and sound while he is talking. You may help him to fully express his thoughts and feelings. You do this by nodding your head in agreement making certain sounds of understanding.
When the person begins to repeat what’s been said, it’s signal (信号) of step two: turning back. It means that you repeat back some words he is using, sending a clear signal that you’re listening carefully and that you think what he is saying is important.
Having heard what he has to say, the next step is clarifying. At this point, you start to gather information about what is being communicated. Ask some open-ended questions, which will allow you to find out what intention he is hoping to satisfy.
The fourth step is to summarize (概括) what you’ve heard. This allows you to make sure that both you and the difficult person are on the same page. When you do this, two things happen. First, if you’ve missed something, he can fill in the details. Second, if you’ve shown that you’re making an effort to understand completely, this makes it more possible to gain cooperation from him.
Having listened carefully, you’ve now arrived at the point of confirming with the person that he feels satisfied that his thoughts have been fully voiced. Ask if he feels understood. When enough sincere listening, questioning, and remembering are brought together, understanding is usually achieved and a difficult person becomes less difficult and more cooperative.
1~3 Use words with proper meanings and grammatical rules to fill in the blanks (Only one word for one blank.)
