It was just after 17:00 on a mid-September evening at a historical venue in Harlem,New York City.Mostly the low-income neighborhood sat at dining tables. In front of them was a menu listing three courses, which they only saw on TV.Each dish was prepared with “leftover” ingredients(食材),offered free of charge and placed alongside a blue card that read “you are loved” in handwritten script.
This is one of 14 community centers created around the world in cities like Milan,Paris,Mérida,Lima,Sydney and now New York through three-Michelin starred chef Massimo Bottura’s Food for Soul project. He started the project in 2016 with his wife,Lara Gilmore,to help fight the global problem of food waste—by using ingredients that might otherwise be thrown away by suppliers—and to give socially and economically vulnerable people access to high quality meals.
Partnering with architects, artists and community leaders, the project is transforming spaces, which are not fully taken advantage of,even a historical home, into intentionally designed cultural centers equipped with kitchens, dining rooms and other facilities that help create a sense of well-being,connection and inclusion.
When I asked Bottura why he created such thoughtful meals within beautifully appointed spaces for the low-income,he told me that everyone deserves respect and beauty—and of course, healthy food.“They come in and are completely lost because they’re not used to coming into beautiful places like this. But once they’re here, they realize that this place is their place. It’s not my place,” he said.
Bottura’s philosophy is one that comes from the heart.T-shirts worn by volunteers at his community centers say “cooking is an act of love”,and he approaches the food served there with as much care as he does at his restaurants—“probably even more”,he said since the diners are extremely stressed and need healthy food to feel better.Bottura insists that it’s important to change the language around the food served in his community centers.
24.Why does the author describe such a scene in the first paragraph
A.To introduce Bottura’s project.
B.To show the appeal of the dishes.
C.To emphasize the warm atmosphere.
D.To explain how the event is organized.
25.What does the underlined word “vulnerable” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Privileged. B.Independent.
C.Conservative. D.Disadvantaged.
26.Which of the following best describes Massimo Bottura
A.Skilled and strict.
B.Caring and considerate.
C.Wealthy and humorous.
D.Economical and influential.
27.What fundamental philosophy does Massimo Bottura express
A.Respect and beauty are for all.
B.Beautiful places inspire respect.
C.Cooking should be a profession.
D.Community centers bring people together.

If you’ve noticed you’re getting less while your bill almost stays the same,it’s not just you.“Shrinkflation”—reducing a product’s size or quantity while keeping its price stable—is showing up in shops around the world.
As the global economy struggles with inflation(通货膨胀),rising material costs and higher human costs, consumers are bearing the increasing production prices.“Consumers are more likely to notice how their purchases are affecting their wallets than the amount of product lost when sizes decrease,” says Mark Stiving, the chief pricing educator at Impact Pricing. As a result, companies use shrinkflation to make consumers “less painful”.
Yet even as shrinkflation comes with inflation, the problem doesn’t end after inflation does.Once the new sizes are on the shelf, they are likely to stay that way.“Shoppers don’t have a choice. They have to adapt themselves to the changes,” adds Stiving. There are rare exceptions, but companies generally take the opportunity to get more profits.
For many companies, shrinkflation seems to be unavoidable. In food industry, for example, where customers are highly sensitive to price, lifting prices might make customers jump ship to another brand. But facing the continuous inflation, the companies have to do something to maintain their profits.Introducing small reduction in the size of their goods should enable them to improve profits while keeping their prices competitive. But once customers notice the change, they might feel fooled, leading to a loss of trust and confidence.
Some grocers are using stickers to remind shoppers of shrinkflation, but still,it’s a tough hit to the bottom line—especially because the price of products generally doesn’t fall as inflation does.Consumers may need to examine both price and size sensibly as they shop, and make sure they don’t fall into the trap of that super size on the shelf.
28.Why does shrinkflation make consumers “less painful” according to Stiving
A.Shrinkflation reduces human costs.
B.Shrinkflation raises purchasing power.
C.Consumers become more aware of size.
D.Consumers experience little increase in costs.
29.What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The concerns of shoppers.
B.The interests of companies.
C.The impact of shrinkflation.
D.The phenomenon of inflation.
30.What is the author’s attitude to shrinkflation in paragraph 4
A.Favorable. B.Objective.
C.Dismissive. D.Unclear.
31.What should consumers do according to the last paragraph
A.Draw a bottom line.
B.Put warning stickers.
C.Choose smaller packs.
D.Make a conscious decision.

Growing up,I felt that I learned some things quickly and other things painfully slowly.Picking up French and Spanish seemed to come naturally, while painting and drawing required a lot of practice.I thought that some people just have a talent for languages; others don’t.
You’ve probably felt the same way—that certain things were easier for you to learn. And so did my research partners. So we set out to identify what makes some people learn faster than others. If we could just distill(提取) these unique characteristics,we thought,we would be able to create better learning environments—and make everyone a fast learner.
In our study,we model data from student performance on groups of tasks that assess the same skill component and that provide follow-up instructions on student errors. Our models estimate the increase in correctness after each practice opportunity. We applied our models to 1.3 million observations across 27 data sets of student interactions with online practice systems in the context of elementary to college courses. In contrast, and much to our surprise,we found students to be astonishingly similar in estimated learning rate. There are no such things as fast and slow learners!
We find that a typical student needs about seven learning opportunities to master a typical knowledge component. They start at different levels of proficiency but, when provided with high-quality practice opportunities, they learn at about the same speed.Yes,they will end in different places—but that’s because they have different starting lines, not because they are quicker or slower to learn.
That means the types of opportunities you get are important.Detailed, timely feedback and hints provide favorable conditions that allow you to consistently make progress, regardless of where you began.
Don’t think you’re alone if learning feels slow and effortful.Do try,try again. You can make as much progress as everyone else—and so can the young people in your life.Achievement gaps are the result of opportunity gaps, not individual differences in learning speed.
32.What is the author’s previous thought according to the first two paragraphs
A.He can’t learn painting and drawing.
B.People learn things in the same way.
C.People have different learning speeds.
D.All people have a talent for languages.
33.What did the researchers do in the research
A.Teach elementary courses.
B.Criticize students’ mistakes.
C.Apply their models extensively.
D.Distinguish the fast and slow learners.
34.How can a student make greater achievements according to the research
A.By using high-quality equipment.
B.By doing more efficient practice.
C.By competing with other students.
D.By increasing learning speed.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.There Is No Such Things as a Fast Learner
B.How We Can Learn Faster than Others
C.There Is No Difference Between Students
D.Why Education Is Important to Us

Despite what most people might think, you really don’t need much time to work out.In fact, even ten to twenty minutes of challenging exercise a few times a week is enough to burn fat, build muscle, boost strength, and contribute to a healthy, active lifestyle. 36
But sometimes, the resistance isn’t really about the actual time the workout takes. It’s about the energy it takes to get ready for it.Maybe your stress levels are over the top,or your energy levels have been so low that you keep talking yourself out of a workout.Or maybe you just don’t want to get all sweaty and have to take a shower afterward. 37 In such a fast-paced life,we’re all struggling. But when it comes to exercise, being healthy and fit isn’t as black and white as the fitness world tries to make it seem. 38 Doing something is always better than nothing when it comes to movement.Micro workouts, like getting out for a fifteen-minute walk instead of doing the strength training workout, are significantly better than doing nothing at all.
39 They are time-saving,since they can be done in seconds or in as little time as 15-20 minutes. They require minimum space and equipment. Many can be done at home,in the park,or even while waiting in the checkout line. They are also money-saving as these can be done without a gym membership, coach, trainer,or class instructor.
So in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, make time to move. 40 If all the movements like push-ups and pull-ups add up,you will still get many of the same benefits of a longer, harder workout.
A.These are understandable excuses.
B.Fitness can be simple, easy and convenient.
C.The advantages of micro workouts are apparent.
D.Try to add in micro workouts throughout the day.
E.No matter how busy you are,you have time to exercise.
F.Micro workouts are being backed up by trainers and science.
G.Being healthy is really more important than you can imagine.

I’ve always known that I’m very quick with my hands. If someone throws something,I catch it almost before I’m aware it has been thrown. When I was young,I had no idea how useful this skill would become.
Last week,I was going to visit a friend with her newborn baby and was on my way to a toy store to buy a gift.I’d once lived in the neighbourhood and I decided to head back to my old cupcake shop for a coffee.Sitting alone at a table outside with my drink,I was approached by an older man,who in a calm and very matter-of-fact way told me to call 911,because there was a baby on a fire escape.
I jumped up to see where the baby was.I was so surprised to see him, wearing a little onesie(连体衣) and lying on the fire escape railings(栏杆) between the second and third storeys.I was nervous,so the baby boy became my only priority.
As I was on the phone to the emergency services,I made eye contact with the baby, keeping him calm, telling him to stay there. Some people were going up the stairs to find the parents, who were apparently sleeping through the whole drama.
I just wanted the baby to feel safe.I hoped he’d stay there until somebody could rescue him.Apparently he had slipped through pieces of cardboard placed next to an air-conditioning unit in the window, and without bars to protect him he’d crawled(爬) out and up the fire escape towards the next storey. He was only 16 months old.For him to even climb up and balance in that position was incredible.
Then he slipped.Instinctively,he grabbed on the railing as he fell, hanging by his arms.I knew he couldn’t hold on,25 feet above the street, for long.I sensed people had gathered behind, but my attention was purely focused on my intention to catch the baby.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
I made sure I was positioned to catch him.__________________________________________

M:I fell in love with bird watching in college when my classmate showed me the beautiful birds on campus.Since then,I have gone on different bird watching trips in China and abroad. In Yunnan,I saw a bird wave, which means different types of birds flying together.I hid in the bush, waiting for them to land.Surprisingly,I saw a kind of bird that I had been looking for for ages.I held my breath, didn’t dare to make any sound, but felt excited.Another time in Sweden,my friend and I learned that a rare kind of bird was active nearby at that time,so we rushed to see. Many people there were taking photos of that bird.Feeling excited,I also took many photos. However, when I checked the photos,I found that it was actually another kind of common bird.Later, the crowd all came to realize that, and everyone laughed.I’ve seen more and more old people and children interested in bird watching nowadays, and I’m glad that birds are drawing people’s attention.Through bird watching, more people pay attention to environmental protection, and we are closer to living with nature in peace.

C.Wealthy and humorous.
D.Economical and influential.

根据第二段中“‘Consumers are more likely to notice how their purchases are affecting their wallets than the amount of product lost when sizes decrease,’ says Mark Stiving...As a result, companies use shrinkflation to make consumers ‘less painful’.”
29.What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The concerns of shoppers.
B.The interests of companies.
C.The impact of shrinkflation.
D.The phenomenon of inflation.
30.What is the author’s attitude to shrinkflation in paragraph 4
A.Favorable. B.Objective.
C.Dismissive. D.Unclear.
31.What should consumers do according to the last paragraph
A.Draw a bottom line.
B.Put warning stickers.
C.Choose smaller packs.
D.Make a conscious decision.
根据最后一段中“Consumers may need to examine both price and size sensibly as they shop, and make sure they don’t fall into the trap of that super size on the shelf.”
D
根据第一段中的“Growing up,I felt that I learned some things quickly and other things painfully slowly.”及第二段中的“You’ve probably felt the same way—that certain things were easier for you to learn.”

根据第四段中的“They start at different levels of proficiency but, when provided with high-quality practice opportunities, they learn at about the same speed.”
35.What is the best title for the text
A.There Is No Such Things as a Fast Learner
B.How We Can Learn Faster than Others
C.There Is No Difference Between Students
D.Why Education Is Important to Us
答案 A
通读全文尤其根据第三段中的“In contrast, and much to our surprise,we found students to be astonishingly similar in estimated learning rate. There are no such things as fast and slow learners!” 故选A。

故填have been shared。
59.答案 but
not only...but (also)“不但……而且……”,为固定句型。故填but。
60.答案 which/that
故填which/that。
62.答案 in
故填in。
64.答案 to collect
故填to collect。

Dear Ryan,
A survey on career planning for high school students in China has been done and here are the results.Based on the chart,75.5 percent of the students do not have a clear direction for their future career, accounting for the majority of students.15 percent of students have never considered their future career, while only 9.5 percent of students have a clear understanding of what they want to do in the future.
Students are the future of a country. No one will not feel heartbroken, facing such a result.Everyone, including teachers, parents of students, schools, and all sectors of society, should take action to inspire students to think about their future careers and have clear goals for their future.Only in this way can students have motivation to learn and the country has hope.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

I made sure I was positioned to catch him.The firemen had not yet arrived, but the baby seemed unable to hold on any longer. There was a lot of people around, but no one had a good idea to save him.The baby’s parents still did not appear.I tried to open my eyes to the glare of the sun to locate the baby.Suddenly the baby’s hand let go of the railing and he dropped rapidly.I caught him as quickly as I could. At that moment I breathed a sigh of relief.
The moments after he was saved were exciting. The crowd moved out of the way and the firemen arrived.Everyone felt nervous when the doctor examined the baby.A lot of people also expressed their admiration and respect for me.A woman took the baby out of my hands and explained to me that she was the mother. And then she sincerely thanked me.While everyone was circling around the baby,I left silently and walked to my friend’s house.
