This summer, my parents took my brother and me on the coolest vacation ever! We visited three amazing places. Let me tell you all about our trips.
First, we flew to Egypt. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the pyramids. They’re much bigger in real life than in pictures! Our guide Ahmed told us stories about how they were built thousands of years ago. The best part was when we were on a small sailboat at sunset and ate delicious Egyptian food with a local family. They taught us how to make pita bread, which was really fun and tasty!
After Egypt, we went to Norway. This place was like something from a fairy tale! The train ride through the mountains was so beautiful, with waterfalls everywhere. At the Viking village, we put up dressing up clothes and tried throwing snow balls, which made us all laugh.
Our last stop was Indonesia, which was my favorite. We stayed on a wooden boat and went swimming every day. The fish were so colorful! One day we saw a big group of fish swimming right below us. They looked like underwater birds. At night, an artist taught us how to paint the sunset over the ocean.
▲ I learned that history can be exciting when you see it in person. I also learned how important it is to protect nature. But most of all, I learned that trips are the most fun when you’re with people you love.
If I could, I would go back to all these places tomorrow! Maybe next summer we’ll visit Costa Rica to see the rainforest. Would you like to come and join us
4. What is the writer’s favourite part of the trip in Egypt

7. Who might be interested in this passage
A. Peter, who loves Indonesian food. B. David, who wants to learn Egyptian language.
C. Jack, who is interested in travelling. D. Tony, who likes staying at home with family.

On May 6, 2025, a 28-year-old Chinese snooker player named Zhao Xintong made sports history. He beat Welsh star Mark Williams 18-12 in the World Snooker Championship final. This was China’s first world champion in snooker ever! Before this, British players had won for 98 years, but now that long record was broken.
Zhao’s path to success was full of stories. In 2023, he had to stop playing for 20 months because people said he did something wrong in a match. But in September 2024, he came back. He started from the early qualifying games (资格赛) and played nine matches. He won 111 frames (parts of a snooker game)! In one game, he even beat seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan 17-7. Zhao played bravely, and his skills got much better. He could make long shots right 80% of the time and scored 18 century breaks which is the same as Ding Junhui’s record in 2016!
The final against 50-year-old Williams was very exciting. Williams was the oldest player to reach the final. Zhao was ahead 17-8, but Williams tried hard and won four frames one after another. Then, in the 30th frame, Zhao stayed calm and made an 87-point break to win the game. “It’s like a dream,” Zhao said. When he got the trophy (奖杯), he held the Chinese flag high.
Ding Junhui, China’s snooker leader who once got second place in 2016, said, “He did what Chinese players have hoped for many years.” This win is like when Yao Ming made basketball popular in China.
Zhao’s story is about getting back up after falling. Even O’Sullivan said, “He’s like Federer in snooker — and we haven’t seen all he can do yet!” This win changes snooker history. It shows that if you never give up, you can turn problems into great success.
8. What did Zhao Xintong achieve in the World Snooker Championship
A. Got the highest score. B. Became a youngest player.
C. Broke a 50-year record. D. Won China’s first world champion.
9. What is the correct order of the following events according to the passage

②Zhao Xintong was banned from playing for 20 months.
③Zhao Xintong started from the qualifying games.
④Zhao Xintong won the game 18-12 against Mark Williams.
A. 2→1→3→4 B. 2→3→1→4 C. 3→2→1→4 D. 3→1→2→4
10. What did Zhao Xintong do after winning the trophy
A. He held up the Chinese flag. B. He celebrated with Ding Junhui.
C. He thanked his coach and family. D. He introduced snooker to China.
11. What is the main purpose of the article
A. To explain the latest rules of snooker to new players.
B. To compare Zhao Xintong with other snooker players.
C. To show hard work and never giving up bring success.

Do you have good friends Do you sometimes feel so close to them that they are like family to you
This isn’t just an expression. A study from the University of California has found that you and your friends have more genes (基因) in common than strangers do. Researchers looked at the genes of 1,932 people and compared unrelated friends’ genes and unrelated strangers’ genes. They found that friends have about 1% of genes that match. This is the same amount of genes you share with your fourth cousins, those who have the same great-great-great grandparents as you.
So do you happen to become friends with people who share your genes Not at all. In fact, it is evolution (进化) that brings you together.
“People who share certain genes also share skills and have similar likes and dislikes,” researchers said. In ancient times, it was important that people who were alike stayed together. For example, people who were more easily affected by the cold were more likely to help each other build a fire to stay alive.
Researchers also found that smell-related genes were most similar in friends. This is probably because people with similar senses of smell are more easily attracted to similar environments. For example, people who like the smell of coffee may visit cafes more often and as a result are more likely to meet and become friends with each other.
With these findings, the team has developed an interesting test called the “friendship score”. It can help show the chances of two people being friends. So, here is a question for you: Would you like to take this test and know early who your friends are going to be, or would you still prefer to learn about it by yourself and let time be the judge
12. What can we know about our friends from the first two paragraph
A. They live close to our family. B. They look like our fourth cousins.
C. They never make friends with strangers. D. They share about 1% of genes with us.
13. Why do people with similar smell-related genes become friends more easily
A. They avoid the crowded areas. B. They have better sense of smell.
C. They prefer different environments. D. They are attracted to similar places.
14. What is the “friendship score”
A. A method to teach how to make friends. B. A tool to tell if two people can be friends.
C. A survey to know about friends’ hobbies. D. A game to check how close the friends are.
15. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A. Friendship: Benefits for Teenagers B. Friendship: Is Taking a Test Necessary
C. Friendship: Influence on Human Behavior D. Friendship: Can It Be Influenced by Genes
