When you think of 3D-printing, you may think of small objects. But three companies are working
together to print something much bigger. They're using a large 3D printer to create the first two-storey
3D-printed house in the US.
Usually,3D-printing involves a machine building something by putting down many layers(层)of a
material-often hot plastic. When the material gets hard, the layers stick together to create a finished object.
The method here is similar, but uses concrete(混凝土).
3D-printing has been around for a while. But until recently, it hasn't been used much in the US for
building houses. Now, that's changing. Several 3D-prnted houses have been built in the US and more are
planned. So far, no one in the US has created a two-storey3D-printed house. And this one will be a
large,3-bedroom house. The house, which is in Houston, Texas, was designed by a company called
HANNAH.
Another company, PERI 3D Construction(建造),provided the 3D printer. And a construction
company called CIVE is doing the actual building.
3D-printed concrete houses are stronger and hold up better in serious storms than houses built with
wood. This can save money in the long run. Since the machine is doing the building, fewer workers are
needed, which also saves money.
Ms Look, who designed the house, says that with 3D-printing, it's easy to make each house different
from other houses. For example, she's using the 3D printer to create special shelves a through the Houston house. These kinds of changes can be applied(应用于)to almost anything." The printer doesn’t care if
you print the same chair 100 times or you print 100 different chairs," says Ms Look. That means that in the
future, each house could be created specially for its owners.
29.What material is used to print the two-storey JD-printed house
A. Plastic. B. Concrete. C. Wood. D. Stone.
30.What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A. How 3D-printing has developed. B. How 3D-printed houses are built.
C. The popularity of 3D-printed houses D. The advantages of 3D-printed houses.
31.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.3D-printing will become more popular in the future.
B. People in the future will all live in 3D-printed houses.
C. People can build houses themselves with 3D-printing in the future.
D.3D-printing can help people build a house based on their personal styles.
32.What is the best title for the passage

Scientists have come up with a new way of identifying(识别)animals in an area-by testing DNA in the
air. The researchers believe their new method could help scientists keep track o(f 跟踪)animals that are hard
to spot, including endangered animals.
Two teams of scientists-'one in Denmark and one in the United Kingdom-came up with the same
question at about the same time: Could they identify the animals in an area from DNA that was simply
floating in the air
Every living thing has DNA that can be used to identify it. They leave bits of DNA behind them.
wherever they go. DNA left behind like this is called “environmental"- DNA, or cDNA. Scientists can use it
to tell what kinds of animals are in a certain place.
① .But most of the time, scientists look for cDNA in water. Neither team knew that the other
group was working on a similar experiment. One collected samples from different locations at Denmark's
Copenhagen Zoo, and the other at Hamerton Zoo Park in the UK. The scientists used slightly(稍微)
different methods to collect their samples. But basically, both teams used vacuums(真空吸尘器)and fans
to collect tiny bits of DNA.
In the laboratory, by comparing their samples with examples of DNA from different animals, the
scientists were able to identify many different animals at the zoos.
The scientists chose to test in zoos because they had rare animals not naturally found in the area. Each
team only discovered about the other experiment after they had written a paper about their own results. The two decided to combine(合并)their results and publish a paper together.
Both teams are excited about the ways this new method could be used in the wild. The researchers
believe the method could help scientists a lot. Scientists have been looking for better ways to tack endangered animals without interfering(干扰)with them. If researchers know where the animals live, they
can do a better job of protecting them. The next step is to figure out how to take this method into nature.
33.What is the primary purpose of using cDNA according to the article?
A. To prevent DNA of animals from floating in the air.
B. To attract rare animals to zoos for better protection.
C. To identify animals by testing DNA found in the air.
D. To save endangered animals away from all the diseases.
34.Which of the following is TRUE about the two teams of scientists
A. They knew each other very well before.
B. They found more rare animals for zoos.
第 6 页(共 10 页)
C. They worked together to publish a paper.
D. They used quite different methods to collect DNA.
,35.Which sentence is suitable for①
A. It happened at different countries

C. Bits of DNA is too small to see in the air
D. The scientists didn't have high hope for the experiment
36.What is the article mainly about
A. Proper ways of studying rare animals. B. Differences between DNA and cDNA.
C. Challenges of protecting endangered animals. D. The cDNA Testing for Animal Identification.
