Isabella Springmuhl Tejada, a young designer from Guatemala, has become a shining star in the global fashion industry. Born with Down syndrome (唐氏综合症), she is one of the world’s first professional fashion designers with this condition, showing that nothing can stop her passion for fashion.
Tejada’s love with fashion began in her early years. Her grandmother owned a studio producing Guatemalan-style clothing, which has a big influence on her. Additionally, her mother provided her with fashion magazines. For hours, young Isabella would read magazines and design colorful paper dresses for her dolls. This childhood hobby planted the seed for her future career.
As she got older, Tejada faced a big challenge. Several fashion schools turned her away because of her Down syndrome. But this didn’t discourage her. She signed up for a clothing-making course where she started by making clothes for “worry dolls” which are traditional symbols of hope. Gradually, she began designing life-sized dolls and dressed them in vivid and eye-catching clothes inspired by Guatemala’s natural beauty, like bright flowers and tropical birds. Through this practice, she mastered combining traditional patterns with modern designs.
Tejada noticed another problem: people with Down syndrome struggled to find clothes that fit well due to their unique body shapes. Determined to help, she launched her brand, Down to Xjabelle, in 2015. This brand took off quickly and even made its way to London Fashion Week.
Today, Tejada hopes to inspire others with disabilities by showing the world that they can achieve greatness too. “I want people to see my designs and remember that differences make us special,” she says. Through her courage and talent, Tejada is not just changing fashion — she’s changing how society sees people with Down syndrome.

C. Her friends’ doll dresses. D. Her grandmother’s studio.
25. What did Tejada do after being refused by fashion schools

B. She made clothes for herself.
C She took a clothing-making course.
D. She learned to paint natural patterns.
26. Which of the following can best describe Tejada
A. Warm-hearted and loyal. B. Determined and creative.
C. Easy-going and intelligent. D. Fashionable and generous.
27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To advertise a clothing brand.
B. To introduce Guatemalan culture.
C. To praise Tejada’s fashion achievements.
D. To discuss the treatment of Down syndrome.

It’s upsetting that plane crashes still happen from time to time. We all know that planes were inspired by birds, but they work differently: Birds flap (拍打) wings to fly and can make quick turns, while planes use engines to move, which can sometimes fail, leading to accidents. Scientists wondered whether nature could help solve this problem.
Some scientists found birds had special feathers that spread out from near the bird’s shoulders. They guessed that maybe these feathers could help birds stay steady (平稳的), and fly with less effort, so they tried a new idea inspired by birds again: adding soft, feather-like parts to airplane wings.
Scientists added rows of light, movable flaps like bird feathers to small model airplane wings. These flaps helped keep planes safe in the air and also made it easier for wings to move through the air. Most importantly, they helped prevent “stall”, a dangerous problem where wings suddenly lose control, especially during sharp turns or bad weather. Regular airplane flaps need pilots to control them. But the new feather-like flaps work on their own! When air hits the wing, the flaps open immediately. This could make planes safer in tough conditions, like strong winds or landing on short runways.
Scientists tested the idea using small model planes in strong winds. The results were exciting. Adding five rows of flaps to wings improved lift by 45%, cut air resistance by 31% and also reduced stall. This discovery could lead to planes that use less fuel, fly more smoothly, and handle bad weather better. Thanks to bird feathers, the future of flying might be smarter, safer, and greener!
28. What problem did the scientists want to solve
A. How to protect nature. B. How to avoid air crashes.
C. How to reduce the flight cost. D. How to replace airplane engines.
29. How do the feather-like flaps work differently from the regular ones
A. They can predict the weather.
B. They need pilots to control them.
C. They can extend the short runway.
D. They respond naturally to air movement.
30. What can we infer from the test results
A. The more flaps, the safer planes are.
B. The test needs further confirmation.
C. Flight accidents will not happen any more.
D. New flaps can make planes more efficient.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. The Development of Airplane
B How Birds Avoid Falling from the Sky
C. The Harmony Between Human and Nature
D. New Airplane Wings Inspired by Bird Feathers

We’ve all heard of free games online, but are these games really free Many games are promoted as “free” to attract players. They are easy to progress in the early stages and it seems fun to play.
Once a player has put a large amount of their time in it, the game becomes harder and difficult to progress without using additional features. These features can be bought by making in-app purchases (购买), or with points or game currency earned by watching video advertising.
In-app purchases need to be bought with real money. These choices include more desirable weapons, increased speed, and so on. Only around 1.9 percent of people that play free games make in-app purchases. It is through these players that the developers earn real money.
Game developers collect data about players, such as what games they choose to play and how long they spend playing them. They collect data to suggest more games, which means more chances for players to spend money. Collected data can also be sold to other companies for them to present players with personalized advertisements.
After playing for even just 20 minutes, a player would likely have viewed many advertising videos. Even if players haven’t spent real money on the game, they may become interested in buying what has been shown to them. Perhaps it’s time for online games to be included in the current conversations about the dangers to young people using the Internet and for young players to consider the real cost of a free game. Free games are not harmless. They not only cost time and personal data, but also money if players are not careful.
32. Why do free games turn harder in progressing
A. To remind players to have a rest.
B. To test players’ skills and abilities.
C. To force players to buy special features.
D. To prevent players from losing interest in easy tasks.
33. What do we learn about in-app purchases
A. They can protect players’ information.
B. Game developers get money from them.
C. They can be bought with points from ads.
D. Most players use them to get more weapons.
34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. Methods of players protecting data.
B. Ways of developers promoting games.
C. Reasons for developers collecting data.
D. Types of games players choose to play.
35. What is the author’s attitude to free online games
A. Favorable. B. Curious. C. Anxious. D. Unclear.

One sunny English class, Mrs. Thompson’s eyes sparkled as if she was sharing a secret. “Shakespeare’s plays aren’t always sad. His comedies taught us that laughter can be powerful. Create modern comedy adaptations. Get creative!” she said. Right away, I pretended to be a sad actor and shouted, “To laugh, or to make others laugh, that’s the question!” The whole class burst into laughter, and even the teacher couldn’t hold back a smile.
Making people laugh was what I did best. So when I heard about the school talent show, I was beyond excited. “This is my chance!” I thought to myself. Even though I’d never done stand-up comedy before, the idea only made me more eager to try.
However, some students made fun of me in the hallway, calling me a “class clown”. Their words made me doubt myself. After school, I sat alone, staring at the sign-up form. Just then, Mrs. Thompson walked in. She listened patiently to my worries and said, “Your gift for making others happy is special. Don’t let anyone stop you from shining.” Her words gave me the courage I needed, and I signed up, determined to prove them wrong.

【答案】
I was nervous as I stepped on the stage. My mind went completely blank, my palms sweating and voice trembling. I was about to give up and leave when I saw Mrs. Thompson in the front row. She stood up, clapped loudly, and called out, “Come on, Brian! We know you’ve got so much laughter to share!” Mrs. Thompson’s warm words helped me calm down. I started telling my jokes, and soon the audience broke into a smile.
By the end of my performance, the audience cheered loudly. Even the students who laughed at me before were giving me a thumbs-up. On my way back to my seat, I hugged Mrs. Thompson tightly. Without a doubt, I won the top prize of the show and proved that everyone has something special. I’m so glad I didn’t give up and gained the courage to be myself, because following my dream has brought me so much happiness and a sense of achievement.
