①Over the last 60 years, many space rockets have flown by, and even landed on the Red Planet. Now many countries are trying to send people to Mars (火星). But surviving this trip would not be easy, because Mars astronauts would face dangers both during the journey to Mars and while surviving on Mars.
②Mars is about 225 million kilometers away, so it would take astronauts at least six months to get there. By comparison, it only takes a few days to get to the moon. A trip to Mars would be the farthest journey in human history. While space travel is never free of danger, it takes more health risks to travel in space for such a long time. For one thing, staying in space for long periods makes the human body weak. Also, it puts pressure on the eyes and causes eye problems. But gravity (重力) machines could help.
③Then there’s space radiation (辐射) to worry about: it might raise the risk of health problems, especially for astronauts who will have long journeys. Scientists are working out the problems. They have found taking certain vitamins (维生素) can help.
④Astronauts will have to carry little with them when they leave Earth. But they won’t be able to get things they need as astronauts on the space station do. Engineers are developing 3-D printing technology which could allow future astronauts on Mars to make tools when they need them.
⑤With the development of science and technology, the difficulties of human landing on Mars are being solved one by one!
16. How long does it take to travel from Earth to Mars
A. A few days. B. At least half a year. C. About one year. D. Over 60 years.
17. What problem does long-term space travel cause
A Weakened body. B. Memory loss. C. Heart disease. D. Skin problems.
18. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) toward sending people to Mars
A. Positive (积极). B. Negative (消极). C. Unclear. D. Doubtful.
19. What is the structure (结构) of the passage
A. ①②③/④⑤ B. ①②/③④⑤ C. ①/②③④/⑤ D. ①②/③④/⑤
20. Which can be the best title for the passage
A. Space Travel: Dream & Dangers B. Red Planet Dream: Fun & Facts
C. Mars Trip: Certainty & Challenges D. Astronauts’ Trip: Responsibility & Risks
