Pat Smith, a 70-year-old grandmother, has become a famous environmental activist. She spent one year cleaning up litter from 52 beaches on the UK’s south coast.
Smith set out on her task in January to carry out her New Year’s resolution (决心) of making her community a better and cleaner place. The great goal came to her after watching a documentary on plastic pollution the previous year, and she knew she couldn’t just do nothing.

I feel I have a responsibility to my children and grandchildren to do something about it,” she said.
Her resolution year may be over but this grandma continues her pursuit (追求). “A lot of the rubbish I have picked up is everyday items,” said Pat. “These things are used by all of us and it is shocking to find them polluting our beautiful beaches. Joan Feynman, born in 1927 in Queens, New York, was the younger sister of the famous physicist Richard Feynman. Growing up.Richard played a key role in developing Joan’s curiosity and scientific interest, teaching her high-level mathematics and science. For her fourteenth birthday, Richard gave Joan a gift, a college-level physics textbook, Astronomy by Rebecca Horace Baker. Joan’s career was marked by many scientific breakthroughs, particularly in the study of solar wind and its interaction with Earth’s magnetosphere.
