读写用—素养提升
一、深化阅读——明晰考向 以阅读养阅读
(2023·新课标Ⅰ卷)When John Todd was a child, he loved to explore the woods around his house, observing how nature solved problems. A dirty stream, for example, often became clear after flowing through plants and along rocks where tiny creatures lived. When he got older, John started to wonder if this process could be used to clean up the messes people were making.
After studying agriculture, medicine, and fisheries in college, John went back to observing nature and asking questions. Why can certain plants trap harmful bacteria (细菌) Which kinds of fish can eat cancer-causing chemicals With the right combination of animals and plants, he figured, maybe he could clean up waste the way nature did. He decided to build what he would later call an eco-machine.
The task John set for himself was to remove harmful substances from some sludge (污泥). First, he constructed a series of clear fiberglass tanks connected to each other. Then he went around to local ponds and streams and brought back some plants and animals. He placed them in the tanks and waited. Little by little, these different kinds of life got used to one another and formed their own ecosystem. After a few weeks, John added the sludge.
He was amazed at the results. The plants and animals in the eco-machine took the sludge as food and began to eat it! Within weeks, it had all been digested, and all that was left was pure water.
Over the years, John has taken on many big jobs. He developed a greenhouse-like facility that treated sewage (污水) from 1,600 homes in South Burlington. He also designed an eco-machine to clean canal water in Fuzhou, a city in southeast China.
“Ecological design” is the name John gives to what he does. “Life on Earth is kind of a box of spare parts for the inventor,” he says. “You put organisms in new relationships and observe what's happening. Then you let these new systems develop their own ways to self-repair.”

(2025·河南省周口市恒大中学高三月考)Mirroring body language is a way to bond and to build understanding. It is a powerful tool that we use without even knowing it.
The most obvious forms of mirroring are yawning and smiling. When you see someone yawn, you are likely to yawn immediately. Smiling is also pretty contagious—seeing a smiling person makes you want to smile too.
Mirroring body language is a nonverbal way to say “I am like you or I feel the same.” Research shows that people who experience the same feelings are likely to trust, understand and accept each other. Women have the natural ability to pick up and understand body signals. Therefore, it is not surprising that a woman is more likely to mirror another woman than a man is to mirror another man. That's why women are regarded as better talkers, even if they might not really have more close friends.
Mirroring body language is an excellent way to build trust and understanding quickly. If you want to set up a connection with others, mirror their gestures, sitting position, tone of voice and talking pace. This will make them feel that there is something about you that they like.
While mirroring body language gains you acceptance, you still need to take into consideration your relationship with the person you are mirroring. If you are in a lower social position and are mirroring the body language of your boss, he will view you as rude. However, if you want to defeat those who are trying to prove superior to you, mirroring their body language will help defeat them and change their position.

2.What can we know about women from the research
A.They don't like mirroring others.
B.They are naturally gifted in building trust.
C.They tend to have more close friends.
D.They are good at understanding body language.
答案:D
解析:细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Women have the natural ability ... mirror another man.”可知,女性擅长理解肢体语言。故选D。

(2025·山东省青岛第五十八中学高三期中)Years ago, we were living in a big nice house and I was going to the best elementary school in the city with my siblings. We had everything we could have wished for and we were still asking for more.
Mr Sanchez used to mow our lawns. He was very hardworking. Often, he would bring his son that was my age. He had modest toys and modest clothes and he had a hard time fitting in with us mainly because I was too proud to consider him my equal. His name was Gabriel and he was a smart boy, despite all his “shortcomings”.
Days went by and we spent our time around each other but without any close connection. Fast forward to a couple of years and my father's business hit the rock bottom. His partner took away all the money and left the country. Soon we had to leave our big house and settle into a small one and we were having a hard time meeting other expenses.
Mr Sanchez was very kind during that time. He and Gabriel came once a week and helped me and my siblings get things in order. That was when Gabriel and I became good friends. We started talking in the evenings when I learnt he was going to start college and he was much smarter than me.
Later we came up with a business plan and founded a start up. I felt no shame in confessing that Cabriel was much more instrumental in the rise of our company.
Later, all of my father's debt was paid off and we were again a happy, prosperous family. I was a truly rich man because I had a great friend by my side for my whole life.
This experience was a valuable lesson for me. It does not take a life experience for people to go from rags to riches or the other way around. What is important is someone's person and behavior toward his other fellows in real life.

(2025·广东省普宁市第一中学高三月考)People often say you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and that's actually quite true. __1__ After all, making a good first impression is all about making others feel good when spending time with them. The following tips will help you make a positive impression every time.
Dress appropriately
__2__ That means dressing up or putting on nice, clean, situation appropriate clothes for social situations. It isn't difficult and it doesn't have to cost you much, either.
Be aware of your body language
Words express very little of what you say. Body language can tell someone a lot about your mood and confidence level. __3__ Eye contact is an easy way to make others feel comfortable, important and special. Nervous body language can make others uncomfortable and anxious. Try to be aware of your body language when communicating with others.
Respect the opinions of others
Not everyone will have the same opinion with you, and friendly disagreements can be a gateway to a great conversation. Respect other people's right to have their own opinion. Respect the opinions of others even if you disagree with them. __4__
__5__ People love talking about themselves, but generally, you want to be careful of taking over the conversation. By listening carefully to what others are saying, you are not only making them feel important, but you can gather clues you need to keep the conversation going and bridge to new topics.
A.Be a careful listener.
B.Show an interest in every person you meet.
C.Smile especially when first meeting someone.
D.Make sure you look nice whenever you meet someone new.
E.Meeting new people and starting conversations is often challenging.
