China has become the world’s largest producer and market of EVs (电车). According to a report, 9.58 million Chinese-made EVs were produced and 9.49 million were sold in 2023. Among the total sales, 1.2 million EVs were exported (出口).
The Chinese government has been encouraging EVs as part of its effort for green, high-quality development. As a result, China’s EV industry develops very quickly. At Auto (汽车) China 2004, BYD was the only company showing EVs there. At Auto China 2024, there were 278 different EV models on show, including BYD, SAIC, Geely, Li Auto, Nio, Xpeng and other brands.
China’s EV industry is now facing both challenges and chances. It’s reported that 71% of EV brands cut prices in 2023. EV makers without the ability of innovation (创新) will face growing risks. In order to be both green and smart, Chinese EV makers are trying hard to improve technologies like battery qualities and AI support. At the same time, the government is adding even more charging points (充电站). On the other hand, more Chinese people realize the environmental problems. It is encouraging more buyers to choose EVs.

In 1955, polio caused much trouble to children in China. As a young doctor, in 1957, Gu began researching polio with his team, and after successful animal tests. Gu even drank a small bottle of the vaccine to show that it was safe. However, there was still the challenge of making sure of the vaccine’s safety for children under seven years old. To show the vaccine’s safety, Gu gave his own son, under a year old, the vaccine. Other researchers at the lab followed him, and their children also took part in the test. After a month-long wait, the children showed no bad effects. They succeeded!
In 1960, five million doses (剂) of the vaccine were produced and given out across China, successfully reducing polio.

① In the morning, when you wake up, you turn on the lights. You can hear your mom preparing a shake in the blender. And in the room next door, your dad turns on the washing machine. Every time someone turns on an electrical appliance (电器), he or she leaves a mark. This is called an electricity carbon footprint.
② In the modern world, we cannot live without electricity. We use the electricity carbon footprint to show the influence on the environment. The size of our electricity carbon footprint is closely related to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions (排放).
③ But what is the relationship between greenhouse gases and electrical appliances Well, about 65% of the world’s electricity is made from fossil fuels (like coal, oil and natural gas). Burning fossil fuels produces plenty of greenhouse gases. This causes the Earth to warm up rapidly, leading to climate change. As a result, many natural disasters appear.
④ Actually, we can help protect the environment by reducing our electricity carbon footprint. Firstly, use electrical appliances that save electrical energy. For example, ask our family if we can use LED lights instead. Secondly, we can use the energy that comes from nature, such as wind power. Thirdly, remember to unplug (拔掉……的电源插头) the electronic devices that are not being used. Besides, turn off the lights when we leave a room. What’s more, avoid using air conditioners. We can use portable (便携式的) fans. Last but not least, it’s necessary to spread the importance of saving electricity. Speak to people around us directly or post something on social media. Call on more people to take action in their daily lives.

A Wonderful School Activity
I have lots of school activities during the three years’ study. What impressed me most was the school charity sale.
When I was in Grade Eight, our school planned to hold a charity sale to help the children in poor areas. The charity sale was held on our playground on May 10th. First of all, we made some postcards, bookmarks, and even some kites. Secondly, we began to sell them. But we felt nervous, then our teachers came to join us, giving us some help and our class got nearly 800 yuan in the end. Last but not least, we sent the money to Project Hope to help those poor children.
What a wonderful and meaningful activity it was! And I also learn if everyone gives a helping hand to those in need, the world will be much better.
