I’m Savannah and I remember beginning to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt’s house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then.I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me.I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to which I listened every morning.
In fact,I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving,I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving and never to come back to was hardly in my head then.
The four years that followed taught me the importance of being positive but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves.I did not quite know what I was or what I should be.Mother remarried and things became even more complex for me.Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other.I was often sad,and saw no end to “the hard times”.
My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home.I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with immigration (移民) officers, took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives.
From my experiences,I have learned one important rule:Almost all common troubles go away at last! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up,and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy.
24.What did Savannah miss most when she learned of leaving for America
A.Her dear friends and relatives.
B.The radio programme for pupils.
C.The country she was leaving.
D.The places she was familiar with.
25.What was Savannah’s final attitude to her life changes in New York
A.Optimistic. B.Indifferent.
C.Pessimistic. D.Desperate.
26.Why was Savannah increasingly responsible in her family
A.For her family moved more frequently.
B.For her mother ended up in divorce.
C.For her English was better than others.
D.For she disagreed with her grandparents.
27.What does Savannah think about her future life
A.Good things will happen if she keeps trying.
B.It will be difficult to learn to become mature.
C.There will be more good days than expected.
D.Her future will be loaded with more troubles.

Traditionally, many decisions about medical treatment were left up to doctors:They decided, and patients agreed.Today, health care professionals are embracing the idea of shared decision-making,where patients become informed partners in their choices.Health care professionals now focus on placing the patients at the center of care, informing them about their options, and engaging them in treatment decisions. For example, they engage patients by asking,“What’s important to you And what are your priorities and goals as we talk about a treatment plan?”
“I think there’s a strong recognition in American medicine,of the importance of patient engagement not only in their care, but in deciding what types of care and types of procedures they’re going to get,” said Dr.Allen,a professor of medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora.
A 2017 study published in the journal Circulation:Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes found that people with heart disease who went through shared decision-making had better physical and mental health, better obedience to medication and lower rates of staying in hospital and emergency department use.Patients also reported better communication with their doctors. When people are more engaged in decision-making,they understand the pros and cons of various treatment options, and they’re more likely to stick to the treatment plan and to continue that communication.
But research on how to best approach different cultural groups is lacking. Many doctors cite limited time as a barrier, although research shows that shared decision-making can be accomplished even within short clinic visits. Also, current models of payment for doctors’ visits do not always agree with the goals of shared decision-making.But underlying all that is that medical decisions can be “incredibly complicated”.
Making the practice work on a wider scale is an evolving process.“But in the long run,” Allen said,“shared decision-making can ensure that with all the amazing new technologies and treatments that we will have in medicine, they really can be applied to more patients in a tailored, meaningful way that meets their own values, goals and preferences.”
28.What role do doctors play in shared decision-making
A.They are at the center of care.
B.They ask patients questions.
C.They follow patients’ opinions.
D.They present suggestions to patients.
29.Which can be a benefit to patients from shared decision-making
A.Shortened time in hospital.
B.Improved healthy awareness.
C.Reduced mental problems.
D.Enhanced communication skills.
30.What is the biggest challenge to shared decision-making
A.Lack of family support.
B.Limited time and money.
C.Complexity of medical treatment.
D.Complicated medicine production process.
31.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A.Shared Decision-making:More than Technology
B.Shared Decision-making:an Ideal Way for Patients
C.Shared Decision-making:a Future Model of Hospitals
D.Shared Decision-making:Advantages and Disadvantages

An ancient Latin proverb says “Aquila non capit muscas”—eagles don’t hunt flies—meaning that important ones shouldn’t concern themselves with small, insignificant matters. But the lions in East Africa should concern themselves with the seemingly insignificant ants, because these ants are changing their lifestyles.
The story starts with the acacia trees(金合欢树) in an African wildlife area in central Kenya. Some of these acacia trees provide food and shelter for specific ant species, which in turn defend the trees against herbivores(食草动物).The ants are actively attacking and driving away herbivores that attempt to feed on the tree’s leaves. This is highly effective;the ants not only physically harm the herbivores but also release chemicals that can deter other potential attackers.
But these ants are in trouble.Another species called the “big-headed” ant is destroying entire groups of tree-protecting ants. This,in turn, sets off an entire chain of events that ends up influencing when and how lions can hunt.
This ant invasion(入侵) affects one thing after the other. It leaves the acacia trees defenseless against herbivores especially elephants. The elephants come in and eat the acacias at five to seven times the rate observed in uninvaded areas. The lions, while hunting for food, have no more trees to use for hiding. This reduced tree cover makes lions less successful at hunting and pushes them to find different areas to hunt in.
“These tiny invaders are pulling on the ties that put an African ecosystem together, determining who is eaten and where,” said Todd Palmer,an ecologist from Florida.
The lions, which are already endangered, are managing to cope with this by no longer focusing their attention on zebras. The zebras,of course, can see them much better on the approach given the lack of cover.Instead, they are targeting water buffalo. But this also isn’t the end of the story.Who knows what the lions’ changing strategy will mean for the ecosystem down the line
32.What does the underlined word “deter” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Direct. B.Seek.
C.Identify. D.Discourage.
33.What role do the elephants play in the chain reaction
A.Cooperating with “big-headed” ants.
B.Damaging the hiding place for lions.
C.Protecting the acacias from herbivores.
D.Starting off the disturbance of the chain.
34.Why did the author mention lions, zebras and water buffalo in the last paragraph
A.To show animals fall victim to bigger ones.
B.To show animals are correlated in the ecosystem.
C.To show the ecology is on the road to recovery.
D.To show species are firmly positioned in the food chain.
35.What is the text mainly about
A.How tiny ants affect the way lions hunt.
B.Why African lions are endangered.
C.What ecologists find about animals.
D.How the law of the jungle works in Africa.

No matter how friendly your tone is or how honey-sweet you are in a conversation, when you use one of these two words (or both) in your sentences, the message to your conversation companion is “You are wrong”. 36 They are “no” and “but”.
These words don’t say,“Let’s discuss this” or “I’d love to hear what you think about this” to people. They say,“You are wrong and I am right.” If your conversation companion is also eager to win at any cost, you will have a potential battle on your hands. The result? 37
Are you interested in a little test to see how competitive your co-workers are Try this. For one week, keep a scorecard of how many times each person uses “no” or “but”. 38 And,if you dig a little deeper, you’ll see patterns emerge. For instance, some people use these words to gain power. You’ll see how much people hate it,consciously or not,and how it stifles(抑制) rather than opens up discussions.
39 Practically without even thinking,I keep count of their use of these two little words. It’s such an important indicator! If the numbers pile up in an initial meeting with a client,I’ll interrupt him or her and say,“We’ve been talking for almost an hour now,and do you realize that you have responded 17 times with either ‘no’ or ‘but’?” This is the moment when a serious talk about changing behavior begins.
If this is your interpersonal challenge, you can do this little test for yourself just as easily as you can to judge your co-workers.Stop trying to defend your position and start monitoring how many times you begin remarks with “no” or “but”. 40 For example,“That’s true,but...”.Another expression is “Yes,but...”.
A.I use this technique with my clients.
B.Why do people like to say these two words
C.What are these conversation stopping words
D.Nothing more can happen that will be productive.
E.It’s human nature to like being accepted and recognized.
F.You will be shocked at how frequently these words are used.
G.Pay close attention to when you use these words in sentences.

Crane’s ship sank in the Atlantic Ocean, and then he climbed into the last remaining lifeboat.Three men got into the boat with him. They were the ship’s captain, the cook and a sailor named Billie. For three days, the men steered the small boat through high waves along the coast of Florida. At last, they saw land.
A long stretch of coast lay before the eyes of the men.Slowly, the land rose up out of the mountainous sea.The men could see a small house against the sky.To the south, they could see a lighthouse.Tide, wind and waves were pushing the lifeboat northward. The men thought someone on land would have seen the boat by now.
The men waited and waited but nothing happened.
The waves grew stronger. They seemed always just about to break and roll over the little boat. The coast was still far away. The sailor said,“Boys, the boat won’t live three minutes more, and we’re too far out to swim.Shall I take her to sea again, captain?”
“Yes! Go ahead!” said the captain. The sailor turned the boat and took her safely out to sea again.
“It’s funny those life-saving people haven’t seen us,” one of the men said.
“Maybe they think we’re out here for sport! Maybe they think we’re fishing.Maybe they think we’re fools.”
The coast was still far away. The sun began to go down.It got dark and cold.Billie rowed, and then Crane took his turn. They rowed and rowed through the long night. The land had disappeared but they could hear the low sound of the waves hitting the shore. This was surely a quiet night.
A night on the sea in an open boat is a long night. The sailor continued to row until his head fell forward and sleep overpowered him. Then he asked Crane to row for a while. They exchanged places so the sailor could sleep in the bottom of the boat with the cook and the captain.
Crane thought that he was the one man afloat on all the oceans in the world. The wind had a sad voice as it came over the waves.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;

W:Bingo! They’re even bigger than some dinosaurs, and their life expectancy is 80 to 90.However,their history is not as long as dinosaurs.Besides,I just learned that a bat can eat up to 3,000 insects in one night. You know what? The color red doesn’t really make bulls angry because they’re color-blind.But blue whales aren’t.
M:Really?I couldn’t believe my ears!

M:Good afternoon.I’m here to reprint a brochure for our hotel. Some pages need revising.
W:What exactly is the problem
M:Well, some information is already out of date. There are also a couple of problems with the design.Firstly, the letters on the front page are far too small. So,increase the letters by 3 sizes.
W:OK,what else
M:The information regarding the pool should be deleted on page 2.
W:But we can’t just leave the whole page blank.
M:Just fill it in with the introduction to our newly-opened gym.
W:I see.
M:What’s also bothering us is the description under the top photo on page 4.You can replace the word with “reception”.
W:Is that all
M:No,there is more.Turn to page 5.You’d better use a picture with the view of the hotel.
W:OK.
M:Let’s turn to the next page.According to the customers, the prices do not stand out,so change the print from black to red or blue to make it pop out.
W:I got it.

W:Come in,sir.Please sit down.
M:Thank you. Thanks very much for fitting me in.I know you must be very busy.
W:Not at all.We do try to be available as much as possible.
M:Well,as you know,I’ve come to see if there is any chance of the bank lending me some money to help me set up a small restaurant in the center of town.
W:Well...I need to ask you one or two questions to start with.Do you have any capital of your own
M:Er,in fact,I’ve just come into some money. You see,my grandmother recently died and left me $40,000 which I wanted to use for the business. But I still need more money to start my business.
W:I see.And have you actually picked out a suitable location for the restaurant
M:Yes,I think so.In Lincoln Road. It’s on the ground floor.
W:Fine. And how about future plans? It’s a must.Have you brought your business proposal
M:Sure.I’ve prepared all for it.Here you are.
W:You’re so careful, sir. And we’ll inform you about the loan within three days.
M:Thank you.Looking forward to your early reply.

答案 D
解析 词义猜测题。根据上文“The ants are actively attacking and driving away herbivores that attempt to feed on the tree’s leaves.”
答案 A
解析 主旨大意题。通读全文尤其根据第一段第二句可知,文章主要介绍了小蚂蚁如何影响狮子的捕猎方式。故选A。

64.答案 will be updated
解析 考查时态和语态。分析句子结构,空格处在句子中作谓语,update与主语之间为被动关系,故使用被动语态,因句子表示的是将来发生的动作,所以谓语动词使用一般将来时的被动语态,故填will be updated。
65.答案 their
解析 考查代词。空后tours为名词,应用形容词性物主代词来修饰,作定语。故填their。

参考范文
Suddenly, there was a long, loud swishing sound behind the boat and a shining trail of silvery blue.It might have been made by a huge knife. Then there was another swish and another long flash of bluish light, this time alongside the boat.Crane saw a huge fin speed like a shadow through the water, leaving a long glowing trail. The thing kept swimming near the boat.He noted its speed and power.Crane woke up the men. They knew that only they could keep the boat from sinking. And so they rowed, hour after hour, tirelessly, through the night.
When day came, the four men saw land again. They began to turn the boat toward the beach. As the boat came closer to land, the waves got bigger and more violent. At last,a large wave climbed into the air and fell on the small boat with great force. The boat turned over as the men jumped into the sea.The water was like ice.Fortunately, the life-saving people rescued them in time.People welcomed the men from the sea to the land.
