(23-24七年级下·广东广州·期末)Today, people travel around the world by air and enjoy the great convenience it brings, but studies show that air travel is harmful for the environment. It’s responsible for about 3% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions (排放物).
Last year, a British airline had a flight called Flight 100. It flew from London to New York with only some reporters, engineers and government officers on it. The flight was special because the plane used waste fats and sugars as fuel (燃料), it was different from the traditional fuel and it cut the flight’s pollution by 70% according to the company. Some people said that the flight meant a lot and wanted to have a try on the flight.
However, there are still problems. For one thing, the green fuel costs five times as much as traditional fuel. For another, farmers will have to grow more plants.

Hating to part, hearing birds breaks our heart.
This famous poem was written by Du Fu, Tang Dynasty. Du Fu wrote it when he was alone.

After An Lushan rebellion in 755, Du Fu’s life was full of short stops at different places. In 770, he died on a riverboat between Tanzhou, Hunan province. But the cause of his death is still unknown.

(23-24七年级下·广东广州·期末)There is little doubt that house cats first developed naturally from ancient wild cats. The closest relative is the African wild cat which still lives in Africa today. This is understandable because the first house cats came from Africa.
Cats first started to live around people in Egypt about 6,000~7,000 years ago. From Egypt, cats started to move around the world. This is about the same time that Egyptians began storing grain in buildings. Scientists used to believe that people tamed (驯化) cats to catch mice and protect the grain. However, cats don’t like to be told what to do! Now, Scientists believe that cats followed the mice and learned to accept people. Finally, some of the cats began to grow comfortable around people. These were smaller cats that needed protection. As these cats and people got used to each other, then they moved in together. Around 5,000 years ago, cats started to live with people.
Soon cats were in Greece, then the Middle East and China. They moved along Egyptian business roads keeping away mice and keeping people around them. After the Romans came to Egypt, they also accepted the cats and brought them to Europe. These cats likely bred (繁殖) with other cats to form the many kinds of house cats we have today.
Cats are relatively recent house animals. House cats still have a lot in common with their wild relatives. Cats sleep a lot to save energy just like wild cats. (23-24七年级下·广东广州·期末)When I was young, my mom used to give the family a funny special treat from time to time —she would make breakfast food for dinner.
I remember she did so one night. She had been at work all day but wanted to do something special for us all.
On that evening, my mom put a plate of eggs, sausages and very burnt toast in front of my dad. I waited to see if anyone noticed. But my dad just took his toast, smiled at my mom and asked me how my day at school had been. I don’t remember what I told him that night. But I do remember watching him put butter and jam on that toast. He ate it up as usual.
After dinner, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the toast. I’ll never forget what he said: “Honey, I love burnt toast.”
Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night. I asked him if he really liked his toast burnt. He wrapped (抱紧) me in his arms and said: “Your mommy worked very hard today. She’s really tired. And besides, a bit of burnt toast never hurts anyone!”

(23-24七年级下·广东广州·期末)Do you know why the Earth is called the “Blue Planet” Because up to 70% of its surface is covered by water! However, there are still millions of people who have to walk for over half an hour to get clean water. Why is it so difficult for them to get clean water Will we run out of water one day
Most of the water on Earth is too salty for us to use. In fact, only 2.5% of the water on our planet is fresh water. However, we are not able to use all of it. For example, we can’t get the fresh water in rocks deep underground. In the end, the fresh water that we can use is only about 0.007% of the water on Earth!
Luckily, our planet is very good at holding on water. When water turns into water vapour, it doesn’t run off into space. Since the atmosphere (大气层) is very cold, the water vapour freezes and falls back to the ground.
The amount of fresh water on Earth stays about the same. However, the number of people on this planet is growing quickly. So, more and more people won’t get clean water. If we don’t change the way we use water, this problem will become even worse in the future.

Here is my favorite water cycle experiment.
Before the experiment, teach your students about the water cycle and the following words: evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.
Water on Earth keeps going around in the water cycle. When the sun heats the water, some of it turns to a gas (water vapour). This is evaporation. Then this water vapour rises into the air.
When the water vapour meets the cold air in the sky, it turns back to water drops and collects in clouds. This is condensation.
When too many water drops form in a cloud, the cloud gets heavy and the water falls back to the earth as rain or snow. This is precipitation.
When the water falls back to the earth, it may fall back in the rivers, lakes, the cycle begins all over again.
This science experiment will help show the water cycle.
●Put a small cup in the center of a large bowl.
●Fill the bowl with water about 2/3 of the way up the cup (do not put water inside the cup).
●Cover the bowl with a plastic (塑料的) bag and tie it.
●Put it outside in a sunny area for a few hours.
After several hours, the plastic bag will have water drops on it and some of the water will have dropped into the cup.
This experiment shows the heat of the sun turning the water in the bowl to vapour. The vapour turns back to water drops on the plastic bag. Drops get too heavy and fall back down to the water in the bowl or in the cup just like mountains or land on Earth.
After the experiment, check students’ understanding of the water cycle by asking them to draw a map of the journey of the water in the experiment.
