When I was young, my mum used to give the family something 35 for meals—at least she thought it was unusual. She would make breakfast food for dinner.
I still remember one night my mum 36 some bread in front of my dad, something very burnt. I waited to see if anybody noticed. To my surprise, my dad just took his 37 , smiled at my mum and then turned to ask me how my day at school had been. I’ve 38 what I told him that night, 39 I do remember watching him put some butter on that bread. He 40 as usual, every single bit.
After dinner, my mum said sorry to my dad for burning the bread. And I never forget what he said— “I 41 burnt bread, dear. It doesn’t matter at all.”
42 , I went to kiss Dad good night. I asked him if he really liked his bread burnt. He held me in arms and 43 , “Your mum worked very hard all day. She’s really 44 . And you see—a bit of burnt food never hurt anyone.”
Now I know life is not perfect. 45 is perfect, either. As for me, I often forget birthdays or some other special days. But I’ve learnt something 46 over these years. What we really need is the understanding of each other, whether between a husband and a wife, a parent and a 47 or just between two friends. This is the key to a happy 48 .
So don’t get angry if the bread gets burnt. Remember, 49 bread never hurts anyone. Be kind to those around you and a happier life will surely come closer to you.

五、阅读理解
A
The sun is shining when I get on Bus No.151. We passengers sit crowded together in heavy clothes. No one speaks. That’s one of the unwritten rules of Chicago commuting (通勤). Although we see the same faces every day, we prefer to hide behind our newspapers. The phenomenon (现象) is striking (引人注目的): people who sit so close together are using those thin sheets of newsprint to keep their distance.
As the bus comes close to the Magnificent Mile, a voice suddenly rings out: “Attention! Attention!” Papers rattle (发出细小声). Necks crane (伸长). “This is your driver speaking.” We look at the back of the driver’s head. His voice has authority (权威).
“All of you put your papers down.”
The papers come down, an inch at a time. The driver waits. The papers are folded and placed on our laps.
“Now, turn and face the person next to you. Go ahead.”
Amazingly, we all do it. Still, no one smiles.
I face an older woman; her head wrapped tightly in a red scarf. I see her nearly every day. Our eyes meet. We wait, unblinking (不眨眼的), for the next order from the driver.
“Now, repeat after me,” said the driver seriously. “Good morning, neighbour!”
Our voices are weak and shy. For many of us, these are the first words we have spoken today. But we say them at the same time, like schoolchildren, to the strangers beside us. We smile and can’t help it. We have said it; the barrier (障碍) has been broken. Good morning, neighbour. It is not so hard after all. Some of us repeat it. Others shake hands. Many laugh.
The bus driver says nothing more. He doesn’t need to. Not a single newspaper goes back up. I hear laughter, a warm sound I have never heard before on Bus No.151. This day is starting off better than most.
50.What is the striking phenomenon on Bus No.151

Emailing people, especially those we’ve never met before, can feel like a challenge. What do you call them Should you get to the point immediately How formal (正式) do you have to be 55
Think about who you’re emailing. Is he or she a friend, a teacher, or someone new That will decide how you address (称呼) that person. For friends, “Hi” or “Hello” is enough. 56 If you’re unfamiliar (不熟悉的) with the teacher, it’s always good to be polite. For new contacts, “Dear Mr. /Mrs. /Ms....” is always the best way to start an email.
57 Start with, “My name is...and I go to... (name of your school). We met at the...event and I have questions about...” This will help the receiver understand who you are and why you are writing to him or her.
Keep your email short and clear. 58 “Please” and “Thank you” can go a long way.
Emails are not like online messages! 59 Start with a greeting, then write the body, and sign off at the end of your email. Use standard email fonts (字体). And don’t use too many exclamation points (感叹号).
Read your email before you send it. Make sure that you’ve spelled the person’s name correctly and look for misspelled or missing words. It’s a good idea to add the email address last, just in case you press “send” accidentally before you’re ready.
A.Introduce yourself and state your reason clearly.
B.When emailing people, never give out any personal information to a stranger.
C.And remember to be polite!
D.You should properly organize your emails.
E.Here are some tips that may help you feel confident about emailing.
F.For teachers, it depends on how well you know them.
G.Try to write the emails by yourself.
