1. Respect the old and care for the young.
respect(1)动词,意为“尊敬;尊重”,宾语一般是人
respect sb. for sth. 因某事尊敬某人
l respect you for your honesty.

(2)respect 还可作不可数名词,意为“尊重;尊敬;敬重”,一般与介词for搭配使用
They feel a deep and mutual respect for each other.
他们彼此深深地感受到一种相互尊重。

turn(1)在这里作系动词,意为“(使)变成”,后常跟表示颜色的名词来表示颜色发生变化

(2)turn 后还可跟描述天气的形容词表示天气的变化
The weather has turned cold.
天气变冷了。

(2)line up,动词短语,意为“排队;站队;排成一行”

(4)line 作名词时的用法
① in line 排队;② a line of 一行;一排;一列

我们操场旁有一排树。

(1)on time 意为“按时,准时”,指在规定时间内完成某事,不早也不晚
The subway came on time.
地铁准时到达。
(2)in time 及时,表示正好赶上或恰好在需要的时候完成某事常暗含匆匆忙忙的意味

我们来得及赶上六点钟那趟车吗

5. What traffic rules should we follow
(1)rule,可数名词,意为“规则;规章;条例”,常和其他名词连用表示不同的规则
① make rules / a rule 制定规则
As a matter of fact, some parents make some family rules for their children.
事实上,一些家长为他们的孩子制定了一些家规。
② follow the rules 遵守规则
We must follow the traffic rules on the street.
我们在街上必须遵守交通规则。

(2)rule 还可作动词,意为“统治”

(3)ruler,名词,意为“直尺;统治者,控制者”
