All the students have are pencils, rubbers, and paper. I’m still trying to adapt to these conditions. I’ve had to become much more imaginative in my teaching. Science is my most challenging subject as my students have no concept of doing experiments. There is no equipment, and since there isn’t even a washroom, if I need water I have to carry it from my house in a basin! It’s important not to be too rigid about rules here, too. The other day I was showing the boys a chemistry experiment when, before I knew it, the mixture was bubbling out of the test tube spilling everywhere! The class became a circus as the boys, who had never come across anything like this before, started jumping out of the windows. Sometimes I wonder how relevant chemistry is to these students — few will ever become chemists — and most will be going back to their villages after Year 8 anyway. To be honest, I doubt whether I’m making any difference to these boys’ lives at all.Para 3What they have and haven’t?While readingPara 3challenges Jo has been facingWhat they have What they haven’trunning watertextbooksmodern deviceswashroomexperimentselectricityrubberspaperpencilsbasicfacilitieslearningequipmentwritingmaterialslimited education resourcesstudents’ eagerness to be educatedcontrastcontrastequipment forPara 4How Jo got to Tombe’s homeRead for detailsWe walked for _______________ hours to get there.First_______________,then ________________________________________Before reachingUpon reachingup a mountaindown a shaded path to the valley belowTombe’s motherAll the villagers“ieee ieee”Everyone seemed to beto Tombe.CryingShakingrelatedtwo and a halfhospitable 好客的Para 5-7Accommodation:Men live in a ______,_______bamboo hut with ___________, with a small door and the roof made of _______.No beds but only a__________ for guests to sleep on.Possessions: in the room are_________ , a few _________, a _______ ,cups , _________and a couple of _______.Diet :People there build a fire outside,place_______in an empty__________to heat food. They cook some vegetables and cover them with______________and left them to _____.Belief:Leftovers attract______________in the night,so any leftover food is _____________in a can ,which is then____________of the hut.one broombanana leavessaucerskettlebad spiritslowroundno windowsgrassthe living condition of the villagersplatformWhat kind of life do they live A.Rich.
