Dear_David,
It has been half a year since you left China. How's everything going
Recently, an activity themed“Foreigners Tell Chinese Stories”will be held in our school. Any foreign student who is enthusiastic about China can take part in it. I think you are suitable for the activity, for you used to live here and learned so much about the country. You can write about your understanding of Chinese culture as well as your personal experiences in China. You are expected to write a 500 word article in English. I'd appreciate it if you could mail your article to chinesestory 2022@ before August 1st, 2022.
I'm looking forward to your participation.
The_door_opened_and_in_came_a_young_man. After seeing me packing our things into our suitcase, he was shocked and angry. I tried to explain what had happened. However, he wouldn't listen to me. He talked with me in a loud voice, making my kids frightened. The kids began to cry. Just at that time my husband returned, with some things bought from the store in his hands. Thinking the young man was unfriendly, he started to quarrel with him.
I_didn't_know_how_to_deal_with_the_matter_but_luckily_the_waitress arrived out of breath. Watching the waitress, all of us stopped talking. She explained that her mother became badly ill last night, which contributed to her fault. After explaining the reason to us, the waitress burst into tears. The young man, my husband and I, even my kids, tried to comfort the waitress. We said sorry to each other. The special experience in someone else's room made me realize forgiveness is a kind of virtue.

12 year old Christian Kasdorf says, “Being up in the sky is kind of awesome. I'd like to be a pilot someday.” He told the Dakota County Star, the local newspaper in South Sioux City, Nebraska. “It's fun. And you get to see things from above.”
Not only did Christian get a chance to ride in an airplane earlier this month. He learned about flying it, too, thanks to a program called Young Eagles, which is a program created by the US Experimental Aircraft Association designed to give children between the ages of 8 to 17 an opportunity to experience flight in a general aviation(航空) airplane while educating children about aviation. This program is offered free of charge with donations and volunteers. The lessons are free. All you need is parental permission.
“It is just to get kids in the air to experience flying—and get them informed about aviation,” said Rick Alter, the president of the Experimental Aircraft Association(EAA), which started the Young Eagles program back in 1992. Since then, nearly two million kids across the United States and Canada have taken Young Eagles flights.
“All kids should experience the freedom of flight at least once. All kids really seem to like it. And it's a great way to get them interested in aviation.” Rick told Times reporter Sean Leary.
Young Eagles teams kids up with experienced pilots who show them what to do and how to do it. “Kids have an opportunity to help control the aircraft. They get an idea how the aircraft flies and what the various instruments and controls do,”said Dick Foat, a pilot from Big Bear, California.
“It wasn't as nerve-wracking as I expected. The roughest part was the landing—and that wasn't even very rough,”Christian said,“I was scared at first. But I got used to it.”

There were smiling children all the way. Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.
I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face.I sighed and sat down to read my Economics.
It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting. I put away my magazines and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug(拥抱). I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
I looked forward to the return journey.
28.The author expected the train trip to be __________.
A.adventurous B.pleasant

31.What can we learn from the story
A.Comfort in traveling by train.
B.Pleasure of living in the country.
C.Reading gives people delight.

A new concept vehicle was shown by Toyota and Sony at the Tokyo Motor Show. The car, named Pod, is intended as a four-wheeled friend.
While on the road, Pod keeps track of the driver's mood. Cameras focused on the eyes are on the watch for any sign of sleepiness. Sleepy drivers are shaken awake with loud music and a shaking chair. If a driver appears to be_losing_his_cool,_Pod will display warnings, play calming music and blow cold air in the face.
To improve driving skills, Pod compares driver's performance with the best performance recorded by professionals. It uses this comparison to score drivers and offer advice to all Pod owners. Toyota claims that the car will finally be able to learn its owner's likes and dislikes by tracking passenger conversations. If the car hears a favorite song being discussed, it will download it from the Internet and play it without being asked. It will also suggest restaurants that might suit the driver's taste and take photos of passengers when they sound particularly happy.
Pod can express a form of road anger. If a driver takes a sharp turn suddenly, the LED on the hood(引擎盖)shows an angry red and the tail sticks up at the back.
Anger is one of the car's 10 “feeling states”. Another is sadness-a blue front with tear-shaped lights seemingly dropping from the headlights-which appears after a flat tire or when petrol is low.
“We wanted to show that the cars can be cheerful and entertaining,”said Yasunori Sakamoto, part of the Toyota design team. Mr. Sakamoto said Toyota had no plans to put Pod on the market. Sad, really.
32.What does the underlined phrase“be losing his cool” in the second paragraph means
A.Feel hot.
B.Feel sad.
C.Want to sleep.
D.Be no longer calm.
33.According to the third paragraph, Pod can________.
A.prepare food for the owner

D.help to improve the passengers' driving skills
34.What will happen if the gas in this new concept vehicle is running out
A.The LED on its hood will turn red.
B.It will shake with loud music.
C.Its front lights will turn blue.
D.Its tail will stick up.
35.What is the author's attitude towards this new concept car

Last summer when my family had a road trip to Montana we arrived in Great Falls late one night. The kids had fallen asleep in the car, so my husband went and checked in at the hotel while I stayed with the kids. When he returned with the room keys, we woke up our children and took them out of the car, through the hotel, up the elevator and into our guest room. We kept the room dark, leaving only the entry light on, and quickly put the kids into bed hoping they'd drift back to sleep.
My husband went to put our water in the mini fridge only to notice some beers. “That's strange,” he said and I agreed, but having discovered left behind drinks in hotel fridges in the past I didn't think much about it. I figured the housekeepers had forgotten to check it. In the meantime, my husband ran to the store and I went into the bathroom to get ready for bed. As I washed my face I looked down to see cardboard beer containers in the trash. I felt my heart begin to pound. We were in someone else's room!
Now feeling panic, I checked the closet. Nothing. I then went to the dresser drawers. Nothing. My eyes scanned the room's floor and there it was: a black bag that looked like one of ours. But it wasn't!
I immediately called the front desk and the waitress (女服务员)in charge responded with an “Oh, my God! This is not good!”
By now the kids were wide awake, jumping on the beds as I was trying to put all of our things back into our oversized suitcase. Just while we were packing our things, I heard someone was unlocking the door, which made my heart beat wildly.
