I started singing at 7,” said Malakai to the BGT team. He then added jokingly, “My mom made me join the choir because she’s very bossy.” The teenager mentioned she was his biggest fan.Malakai’s mom was worried as he was about to perform and said, “It scares me because, on his first show, somebody heckled (对……起哄) him. It was sad to see someone boo a child on stage because it might destroy his confidence completely.” Contrary to his mom’s fear, Malakai set the stage on fire singing a beautiful song and the entire crowd was impressed by his amazing voice. As he ended his song, the audience and the judges gave him a standing ovation. The performance won him Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer, sending him straight to the semifinals of the show. The other judges called Malakai’s performance “flawless” and “heavenly”. His angelic voice blew the audience away and the judges thanked the teen for coming to the show. Malakai went on to become one of the finalists of the show and signed a record deal with Universal Music.Malakai’s audition at the BGT went viral on social media. “I’m a trained singer, and a music teacher by profession, and sang this song as a young performer myself, I can say with absolute certainty this is the best I’ve ever heard this song sung, with proper technique and proper breathing. D 5. A 6. D 7. BCA recent discovery shows that birds might have appeared on Earth 20 million years earlier than initially thought. This claim is based on a set of fossils found two years ago in Fujian’s county of Zhenghe. A team of scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Fujian Institute of Geological Survey said in a recent study the fossils belong to a bird from the late Middle Jurassic period, about 150 million years ago.Its fossils appear to be the only known clear-cut record of Jurassic birds and rewrite the history of their evolution.Published in Nature journal on Feb 13, the study focuses on the bird species called Baminornis zhenghensis (政和八闽鸟). CAS scientists said the fossils revealed the bird’s unique features, such as birdlike shoulders and hand structures, common in non-avian (非鸟类的) dinosaurs.More importantly, Baminornis’ tail gives us a better understanding of how different it was from dinosaurs, “What makes the Baminornis unique is that it has a short tail that consists of the pygostyle (尾综骨),” CAS researcher Wang Min said. “This is a key feature of the modern bird’s body plan.” Also, birds tend to have shorter tails than dinosaurs with fewer tail vertebrae (尾椎骨), the last few of which for a pygostyle. This adaptation was crucial because it shifted the body’s center of gravity forward. Besides, independent movement of the back legs and tail gave it better flight capabilities. Before scientists learned about the Baminornis 160 years ago, the Archaeopteryx (始祖鸟) was considered the earliest bird because of its feather fossils, “At that time, feathers were considered exclusive to birds,” said Zhou Zhonghe, another CAS scientist. However, we can’t rely on single-trait classification anymore. Thanks to evolutionary relationships, we now know that some dinosaurs also had feathers, Zhou added. Stephen Brusatte, from the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, considers the Baminornisa landmark discovery which “ranks among the most important bird fossils unearthed since the discovery of the Archaeopteryx in the early 1860s”.8. What is the signifcance of the Baminornis discovery A. It redefines when birds first appeared.B. It confirms the earliest ancestors of birds.C. It proves that birds evolved from dinosaurs.D. It challenges existing theories of bird evolution.9. What makes the Baminornis different from dinosaurs A. Its tail features a pygostyle. B. It has a long, feathered tail.C. It lacks vertebrae in the tail. D. It has birdlike hand structures.10 What does Zhou suggest about feathers in evolution A. They are the most important discovery. B. They are the key to studying birds.C. They are not unique to birds. D. They are the only feature to birds.11. How does Stephen Brusatte view the discovery A. As a minor adjustment. B. As a turning point.C. As an unproven theory. D. As a rediscovery.【答案】8. A 9. A 10. C 11. BDMost of us have an “inner voice”, and we assume everybody does. Recent evidence suggests people vary widely in the extent to which they experience inner speech. The study by cognitive (认知的) scientists Gary Lupyan and Johanne Nedergaard shows these differences are real and impact our cognition. As part of their ongoing research, Lupyan previously assessed 1,037 people using a measure called the Internal Representations Questionnaire (IRQ). For the verbal (口头的) part of the IRQ, participants indicated agreement with statements like: “I think about problems in my mind in the form of a conversation with myself” on a one-to-five rating. For their new study Lupyan and Nedergaard selected 47 participants who scored high for having an inner voice and 46 who scored low. They then gave participants four language-related tasks they thought might be influenced by the use of inner speech. In the first, participants were shown five words and asked to repeat them back. The second involved saying whether the names of objects in two pictures rhymed. In both tasks, the group with less inner speech was less accurate. For the rhyme judgments, people with more inner speech were also faster.“This study really tests what inner speech gives us in terms of cognitive benefits,” says psychologist Charles Fernyhough. The other two experiments tested task switching and participants’ ability to spot differences between two silhouettes (轮图形) that were from either the same or a different category. The groups showed no differences on these tasks. “People can probably employ numerous other strategies for task switching,” suggests Lupyan. The research may have medical implications. “Someone with more inner speech might be more reliant on language in their thinking,” Lupyan says, “so language difficulty from a stroke (中风) could have a more severe effect.” Understanding how inner speech develops has implications for education, says neuroscientist Ladislas Nalborczyk. “Variations in children’s ability to represent speech sounds may impact their ability to learn the relation between sounds and writing,” he says. This may affect the way they learn to read and write, which probably has a huge impact on education. The researchers propose giving a lack of inner speech a name: “anendophasia.” “It helps scientists find and integrate research on a topic.” Lupyan says. “If people studying something are calling it by different names, the research becomes more disorganized.”12. What was the purpose of using IRQ A. To change people’s experience of inner speech.B To measure people’s agreement with certain statements.C. To identify the percentage of people without inner speech.D. To make people think about problems in a conversation form.13. How does inner speech help with tasks A. It aids in better performance. B. It offers more inspiration.C. It makes people more patient. D. It changes the way of thinking.14. What does Lupyan suggest about task switching A. Inner speech is the primary strategy for it.B. It is mainly affected by external environment.C. It can be achieved through various methods.D. Inner speech has little influence on its complexity.15. Why do the researchers try to name the lack of inner speech A. To make it easier to remember.B. To create a new concept for study.C. To tell it apart from other speech forms.D. To assist scientists in arranging research on it.【答案】12. B 13. A 14. C 15. She looked much younger than her fifteen years, a worn coat hanging loose above her. We weren’t supposed to take a child, but an emergency call came through that morning. A home was needed for a young girl immediately.I, together with four children, hurried to get her room ready. The kids were great. Joanne, our second-eldest daughter, did the cleaning and Margaret, Rob and Jeff helped make the bed. I felt my heart pounding in my chest. I was excited, but scared at the same time because I was told an adopted child might give us a lot of trouble. That afternoon, Trudy arrived with the social worker Mrs. Kline. She stepped into the front hall and stood against the wall. I will never forget the look in her eyes. The first thing that came to my mind was that she looked like a hunted animal. The children moved towards her, and Jeff grabbed her hand and said proudly, “Come and see your room. I helped make your bed.” Trudy pulled back, speechless. At this point, I stepped towards her and said, "Welcome to our home, Trudy. “She looked at me with such blank eyes. But with her head bowed, she simply said, eyes moving back and forth like a creature looking for a way out, “No, thank you.”For the first two weeks, Trudy was very quiet. She would come into the kitchen while I was working, and we would discuss school and what she would like to do in the future. Mrs. Kline had given us all the information about her history, but I never mentioned the terrible things that had happened to her.As the days went by, Trudy became a delight to have around. Very quickly, it seemed like she had always been with us. The girls would sit in each other’s rooms and giggle(咯咯笑) like typical teenagers. It was a sound that warmed my soul. However, when they talked about new clothes, Trudy fell silent again.注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。I took Joanne shopping for a winter coat, and Trudy came too.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Back home, I presented the jacket Trudy had tried on.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】One possible version:I took Joanne shopping for a winter coat, and Trudy came too. Thrilled, Joanne tried on one coat after another. Trudy stared at her with eyes wide open. “It looks so nice on you!” she babbled, but her eyes were glued to a jacket. Then, Joanne encouraged her to try it on. Excitement shining on her face, Trudy picked the jacket out, posing at ease. However, she turned, replaced it, and rejoined Joanne. While they were busy, I quietly asked the salesperson to wrap up the jacket.Back home, I presented the jacket Trudy had tried on. Unexpectedly, Trudy started sobbing. “No one has ever bought me a beautiful jacket like this.” My voice shook, “You really deserve it.” I slid into my room so she would not see me crying. Suddenly, a knock came at the door, where stood my children. Margaret stepped forward, “Mom, we hope we can keep her forever.” Others nodded in agreement. My eyes welled up with tears, whispering, “Trudy is really lucky, but I am luckiest.”南充高中高2023级高二下学期期中考试英语试题(考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分)第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分)第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分)听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。例:How much is the shirt A. 19.15. Submitting published worksBIn 2023, “Britain’s Got Talent” (BGT) discovered a musical genius named Malakai Bayoh who impressed the audience with flawless high-note singing. The London-based 13-year-old boy appeared for the show’s audition (海选) in April, 2023 and was accompanied by his mom and sister. “My big dream is to be an opera singer. This boy is a gifted singer,” @mayacorinne878 posted.4. Which of the following best describes Malakai A. Shy. B. Active.C. Humorous. D. Determined.5. What made Malakai’s mom feel worried A. The challenge of young people.CA recent discovery shows that birds might have appeared on Earth 20 million years earlier than initially thought. D. As a rediscovery.DMost of us have an “inner voice”, and we assume everybody does. To assist scientists in arranging research on it.第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。As for many regions and countries, tourism is one of the most important sources of their financial income. ____16____ For example, it can cause the loss of a destination’s cultural identity and even pollution. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。I took Joanne shopping for a winter coat, and Trudy came too.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Back home, I presented the jacket Trudy had tried on.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源列表 四川省南充高级中学2024-2025学年高二下学期期中英语试卷(不含音频) - 原卷.docx 四川省南充高级中学2024-2025学年高二下学期期中英语试卷(不含音频).docx
