When Patrick Bresnahan, a 4-year-old boy from New York, was diagnosed (诊断) with a rare genetic disorder, hope came in the form of a golden retriever (金毛猎犬) named Yam.
Patrick’s mother, Susan Bresnahan, a nurse with 20 years of experience, noticed early on that her son wasn’t reaching developmental milestones.
Patrick never rolled over at 3 months, wasn’t sitting up at 6 months, and wasn’t crawling (爬) at 9 months. “After getting the diagnosis, it was the first good night’s sleep I had in two years,” Susan recalled. The disorder can result in physical challenges, irregular heart function, and developmental delays. While there’s no cure, treatments can help manage symptoms.
Recognizing Patrick’s lack of motivation to move, Susan explored the idea of a service dog. The family learned about highly trained service dogs that could provide both physical and emotional support. However, they needed to raise $25,000 to cover their part of the cost.
In just three weeks, donations from friends, family, and community members surpassed (超过) their goal. Moved by the generosity, Susan said, “I cried for three weeks.” Patrick was matched with Yam, a golden retriever whose impact was immediate.

Indonesia aims to increase their use of geothermal (地热的) energy to move away from highly polluting fossil fuels.
Geothermal energy uses heat from underground hot water to produce electricity. Environmental experts see geothermal as a good source of clean energy because it can provide power 24 hours a day. Geothermal power plants also require little to keep them running and can last for many years.
Countries with high geothermal possibilities have areas where volcanic activity naturally carries hot water or steam to the Earth’s surface. The hot water or steam can also be reached by digging into the ground.
Marit Brommer is head of the International Geothermal Association based in Netherlands. She said, “We’re essentially standing on our own Sun, which we can get clean, reliable energy from.”
In Southeast Asia, geothermal energy production is expected to augment ten times greater from 2020 to 2050, reaching 276 million megawatt-hours.
Indonesia is the second largest user of geothermal energy in the world. Still, Indonesia uses less than one-tenth of its large reserves of geothermal energy. Six percent of the country’s power supply comes from geothermal sources. Indonesia plans to expand its production of geothermal energy, aiming to increase geothermal production by at least 8 percent by 2030.
However, developing new geothermal projects is costly and sometimes risky for companies when they test and look for reservoirs (储藏). That makes it hard to get money for development. In Indonesia, villagers have protested geothermal projects. They say the projects are not safe and can harm the environment. Several geothermal projects in Indonesia have had deadly gas leaks (泄漏) in the past five years.
The World Bank is providing a $150 million loan to increase Indonesian investments in geothermal energy. And the Green Climate Fund and the Clean Technology Fund are providing $127.5 million. The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources says it is working to shorten the wait time to get permits for new geothermal projects. It is also considering ways to increase the amount of money companies could make from the projects.

The project aims to give people a new way to experience the famous building, which sits in Vatican.
The church leaders recently took part in the news conference to present the new digital creation to the public. The system will officially begin next month. It will permit individuals to explore St. Peter’s Basilica online and provide interactive experiences for all visitors to the Vatican.
The effort included drones (无人机) flying around the empty church for four weeks to take images of all parts of the building. The drones—equipped with many cameras and lasers—took more than 400,000 high-quality pictures.
The process used artificial intelligence (AI) methods to create a complete 3D copy of the church. One goal of the program was to provide a way for anyone in the world to have the chance to “visit” the church and learn about its history.
One of the church leaders has warned that AI should only be used in proper ways. In a media interview, he put forward an international agreement to control or regulate the technology. He argued that AI systems lack human values and could cause great harm.
The digital system permits visitors to request entry times to the church. This could be a welcome change for visitors used to waiting in lines for hours to get into the church, which is one of the world’s most visited buildings.
