He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. He had an understated prose style and a restrained method of exposition, which he termed the “ iceberg theory”(because he believed that a great deal could be understood in a narration even if it was deliberately unmentioned). His most famous novels include The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Old Man and the Sea.” I decided that I would write one story about each thing that I knew about.”Having set himself this goal, he wrote novels and short stories based on his personal experiences of the First World War, the Spanish Civil War, bullfighting and deep-sea fishing , amongst others. On leaving high school, he joined a local Kansas newspaper as a trainee reporter. He went to become foreign correspondent for the Toronto Star and used his extraordinary experiences in Europe and later Cuba to inform his writing.Para 3: What did Hemingway do to achieve his ambition to become a writer set himself this goalacculumate experiencestick to this goal/pursue his dreamachieve great successfrom early boyhood single-minded in his ambition to write漂亮得不像实力派能去非洲狩猎能上战场立功能凭一本小说获得普利策奖还能凭同一本小说获得诺贝尔奖能飞机失事后大难不死能在几天后飞机再度失事时再次大难不死还能在经历无数死里逃生后一枪打死自己能被毁灭,但不能被打败他的名字叫海明威Ernest HemingwayA Moveable FeastTo whom the bell tollsDeath in the AfternoonThe snow ofKilimanjaroHis short novel The Old Man and the Sea, about the three-day epic struggle between an elderly fisherman and the biggest fish he had ever caught, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953.
