通知是上级对下级、组织对成员或平行单位之间部署工作、传达事情或召开会议等所使用的应用文。通知可分为两类，即书面通知（written notice）和口头通知（oral announcement）。

1. 书面通知是书面的正式公告或布告，写作格式及要求如下：
（1）正文上方的正中位置写Notice或NOTICE；
（2）发出通知的人或单位的名称一般写在正文的右上角或右下角；
（3）发出通知的时间常写在正文的左下角（通常可以省略）；
（4）正文内容：被通知的对象（也可放在正文前）、时间、地点、注意事项和要求等；
（5）人称：一般用第三人称；如正文前有称呼语，则用第二人称。
（6）时态：常用一般现在时和将来时态。
2. 口头通知用词表达注重口语化，开头往往有称呼语（被通知的对象），如： “Boys and girls” “Ladies and gentlemen” “Comrades and friends”等。也可用提醒听众注意的语句，如“Attention, please!” “Your attention, please!” “May I have your attention, please I have an announcement to make.” “I've something important to tell you.”等。在涉及到要求及注意事项时，也常用第二人称。另外，在口头通知中，最好有结束语，如 “That's all. Thank you (for listening).”等，以示礼貌。
本写作可分为三部分：
第一部分：说明展览主题、时间和地点；
第二部分：介绍展览内容；
第三部分：强调注意事项。
