Text 9
How many of you drink Coca-Cola Nearly everybody. Did you know that cola started out not as a soft drink, but as a cure for headache back in the late eighteen hundreds
John S. Pamberton, a doctor from Atlanta had experimented for many months to find a cure for the common headache. He worked at his home mixing and heating oils with other materials until he found one mixture that seemed to have good effect on headache.
He began to sell the mixture in drugstores. The customers had to mix it with water before drinking.
Then, how did cola change from a drug to a soft drink That came about quite by accident. One day a patient who was suffering from headache came into a drugstore. He asked for a bottle of cola. He wanted to take it right away,so he asked the clerk to mix the medicine while he waited. It so happened there was no boiled water at the store. The clerk suggested mixing the drug with soda water. The customer agreed. After drinking it, the customer said it tasted wonderful. The clerk continued offering the mixture, and cola gradually became popular.
Text 10
People used to say “Behind every successful man there is a woman.”
Some women still like making their husbands and sons successful. But some women want more for themselves. They want good jobs. When they work, they want to be paid equally as men.
Today the best jobs are still given to men. Even when women do the same work, they are often paid less than men. Women want these things changed.
The women's liberation movement was started by women who didn't want to stand behind successful men. They wanted to stand beside men, with the same chance for success. The movement is quite new, and many American women do not agree with its purpose. But it has already made several changes in women's lives, and men's lives, too.

North American Train Routes for a Family Vacation
The Adirondack
Considered one of the top ten scenic train rides in the world, the Adirondack train route travels from New York City's Penn Station to Montreal, Canada. The 10-hour trip is great for a weekend away in either Montreal or Manhattan. The route will take you past West Point Academy, the Hudson River Valley and fifty miles of Lake Champlain.
The Vermonter
The almost 11-hour trip from Washington DC to St.Albans, The Vermonter takes you from the US Capitol, through the beautiful New England states of Connecticut and Massachusetts on the way to Vermont. As you travel through New England towns, you'll be able to see some of the most beautiful scenery in this area, including rivers, falls and covered bridges.
The Downeaster
The Downeaster was established in 2001 and was expanded in recent years to include service to Freeport and Brunswick, Maine. The short ride (between three and four hours) includes a trip along the beautiful Maine coastline. With five round-trips offered daily, it's a great way for Massachusetts families to visit Maine for a day or longer. Many of these routes carry volunteers to aid passengers with questions about local attractions and destinations.
The Pennsylvanian
Both New York City and Pittsburgh are great family vacation destinations and the Pennsylvanian route takes you through the beautiful Pennsylvanian landscape between the two major cities. The nine and a half hour trip travels through a variety of different terrains (地形) and stops along the way include Newark, Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Altoona. Touching a lifeless object can serve as a very loud signal or a request for understanding. Take the case of Aunt Grace. This old woman had become the centre of a family discussion. Some of the family felt she would be better off in a pleasant and well-run nursing home nearby where she'd not only have people to take care of her but would also have plenty of companionship. The rest of the family felt that this was like putting Aunt Grace “away”. She had a generous income and a lovely apartment, and she could still do very well for herself.
Aunt Grace herself was no great help in the discussion. She sat in the middle of the family group, fondling (抚摸) her necklace and nodding, running one hand along the sofa, then feeling the wooden carving.
“Whatever the family decides,” she said gently. “I don't want to be a problem to anyone.”
The family kept discussing the problem, while Aunt Grace kept fondling all the objects within reach, until finally the family got the message. Aunt Grace had been a fondler ever since she had begun living alone. She touched everything within reach. All the family knew it, but it wasn't until that moment that, one by one, they all became aware of what her fondling was saying. She was telling them in body language. “I am lonely. Help me!”
Aunt Grace was taken to live with her brother's daughter, where she became a different woman. Like Aunt Grace, we all, in one way or another, send our little messages out to the world. We act out our state of being with nonverbal body language. We lift one eyebrow to show disbelief. We rub (摩擦) our noses in puzzlement. We shrug (耸肩) our shoulders to show a lack of interest, wink (眨眼) one eye when communicating with those close to us, tap our fingers to show impatience, slap (拍) our forehead when we forget.

We are familiar with the unpleasant results of poor sleep. We may feel tired, anxious and bad-tempered, and everything gets a bit harder to do. But sleeplessness also impairs (损害) parts of the brain that affect our social lives and abilities to relate to other people, according to research by neuroscientist Eti Ben Simon.
In the first study, Simon and his colleagues designed a task where participants would face each other, and walk toward each other. The participant would decide when someone got too close, and they would measure that distance. Consistently, when people were sleep-deprived (睡眠不足的), they preferred others to be farther away.
In a recent study, they asked participants to think about different individuals while their brain activity was being recorded in an fMRI scanner. Then they answered a questionnaire (about daily acts) that explored how likely they were to help others. They found that sleep-deprived people were significantly less likely to want to help others.
They also looked at a database of charitable donations and compared the week of daylight saving time—when people lose, on average, an hour of sleep—to other weeks of the year. In 15 years' worth of data, they kept seeing that on that week, the amount people donate is reduced by about 10 percent.
Other researchers are looking at similar questions. A colleague published a study that found doctors prescribe (开处方) fewer painkillers during a night shift than a day shift, and that was accompanied by reduced sympathy for their patients.
They've found that sleep deprivation reduces activity in what's known as the theory of mind network in the brain. These are areas that help us think about other people. The larger the impairment, the less they wanted to help other people.
It's not always easy to restore good sleep. But once we prioritize it, we can really help shift symptoms, mood, anxiety and even the desire to be kind to other people.

Amy Cuddy, a Harvard psychologist, has devoted her studies to the influence body language has on your confidence, influence, and finally, success. Her biggest findings center on the powerful effects of positive body language.Positive body language includes things like proper eye contact, active listening, and gestures that show the message you're trying to express.Studies show that people who use positive body language are more likable (讨人喜欢的), persuasive, and emotionally intelligent. Here's how it works:
Positive body language changes your attitude.Cuddy found that consciously (有意识地) changing your body language to make it more positive improves your attitude because it has a powerful influence on your body.
It makes you more likable. In a Tufts University study, people watched soundless videos of doctors interacting with their patients. Just by observing the doctors' body language, people were able to guess which doctors ended up getting complained by their patients.Body language plays a big role in how you're viewed and can be more important than your voice or even what you say. Learning to use positive body language will make people like you and trust you more.
It improves your emotional intelligence. Your ability to effectively communicate your emotions and ideas is central to your emotional intelligence. People whose body language is negative have a destructive effect on those around them.Working to improve your body language has a great effect on your emotional intelligence.
We often think of body language as the result of our attitude or how we feel. This is true, but psychologists have also shown that the opposite is true: Changing your body language changes your attitude.

57.答案:a
故填a。
58.答案:that
59.答案:who
分析句子结构,“The 64.________ (improve) in quality and branding”在句中充当主语,空前是定冠词the,所以该空要填名词,即improvement,表示“改善;改进”。
65.答案:using
分析句子结构,“their 65.________ (use) traditional Chinese elements and culture”在句中作主语,所以空处填动名词using,构成动名词的复合结构。

It was just another busy day until I met the boy on the bus. He was not a passenger like me. He was, what we call a street child, an 8—10-year-old kid with a worn T-shirt. These poorly-dressed kids were seen almost everywhere in Dhaka city. But what was special about that boy was his face. There was “something” in him that caught my attention. That was an angelic (天使般的) baby face with little care.
He got straight into the bus as it stopped at a traffic light. The bus helper shouted at him in the first place. But instead of talking back, the boy kept silent and started handing out a piece of paper to all the passengers. What was written in the paper was, in short, that his father died a couple of years ago. His mother worked at houses. He badly needed money to help his family, so he wished someone warm-hearted to buy chocolates from him.
This was nothing new to people who took a bus every day and I was no difference. I had my earphones on, listening to some relaxing music to kill time. When he came to me to get the paper back, I casually gave him some money. Thankfully it brought some smiles on his face. He was about to give me ten chocolates in return for the money I gave to him when I stopped him.
“I don't like chocolates, brother. So there is no need of chocolates. You can have the money,” I said.
All of a sudden, the smile on his face disappeared.
“I'm not a beggar. Please take the chocolate, or take your money back.”
His straight answer greatly surprised me. I even felt he was slightly angry. I had given money to many kids before, without taking their chocolates. But this time something seemed different. I realized his angelic baby face was not the only thing special about him.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

One possible version:
The boy put ten chocolates on my seat and got off the bus. Seeing his small figure disappear in the busy street, I felt at a loss. “I know the boy.” A voice flew through the frozen air and drew me back to life. Then a man told all of us that the boy was a top student in a primary school nearby, whose mother fell ill due to the heavy work. In order to raise some money for his mother, the boy had been selling chocolates for several weeks.
Having got the boy's name, I decided to help him. I got off the bus at the next stop and took a taxi to his school. Upon arrival, I managed to find the headmaster and handed him $1,000, asking him to secretly give the money to the boy who I met selling chocolates on the bus. The headmaster promised to make everything perfect and thanked me on behalf of the boy and his mother. Now, I knew I could go home without shame and regret.
