【原文】 M: Are you a tea drinker If so, you’re not alone. Every day around the world millions of cups of this popular drink are drunk, and it’s been that way for thousands of years. Now, Turkey is believed to be the top nation for drinking the most tea per person, followed by the Republic of Ireland and the UK. Tea can be poured from pots or made in the cup using tea bags and the latter is causing concern. Scientists from McGill University found that some tea bags released a lot of microplastics into water, which is bad for people’s health. Most tea bags are made from paper, with a small amount of plastic used to seal them. This has led to debate about whether they can be recycled, but many are still used as fertilizer for growing plants. However, gardener Mike Armitage has told the BBC that the plastic contained in the soil could be washed into streams and rivers and finally out to sea. While some tea bag manufactures might be doing their bit to reduce plastic pollution, it could be a good time to switch your favorite drink to coffee.河南省信阳高级中学新校(贤岭校区)、老校(文化街校区)

Ben, a licensed clinical social worker and his wife Heather both worked two jobs to support their family with two young children, and often lived from hand to mouth. But Ben’s own lack never prevented him from being the generous person that he is. When he saw families in his casework who couldn’t afford basic necessities, he’d call Heather and Heather always said yes to help them. Then he decided to do more.
In 2018, Ben started gathering winter coats and foods in his office, and received donations from local families and community groups. He and his colleagues would then deliver donations to their clients. Heather also put out a collection box in the gym where she worked. “It makes me feel so good to help families that we know are in need,” Ben told Heather. “I think we should try to do even more!”
The next year, the couple named their effort Benny’s Bode () and made it a public welfare organization. After receiving generous donations, they moved operations to a 1,200-square-foot retail store space. Now “customers” who are often working people keeping their head above water arrive at what looks like a store, and show proof of employment and a photo ID to shop at Benny’ s, always free of charge. Visits are allowed twice monthly, and veterans (退伍军人) and senior citizens can visit once a month. Benny’s Bodega helps 1,700 people each month in 2024 alone.
Heather and Ben are thrilled that they can help. “This is something that I need to do,” says Ben, “something that I feel I am put on this earth to do.” Adds Heather, “Ben would always say that giving back and volunteering is actually the most selfish thing you can do because of the joy you get from helping change someone’s life.”
24.What motivated Ben to start gathering donations
A.His wife’s support. B.His work experience.
C.His clients’ struggles. D.His financial difficulties.

We’ve all been there: lying in bed wide awake and desperately wondering how to get to dreamland. While having trouble drifting off to sleep isn’t unusual, it still can be frustrating. Fortunately sleep experts are gaining an increasingly strong understanding of what’s happening in the brain during the process.
Falling asleep is a big shift for your brain. This switch is governed in part by environmental cues, such as light or temperature. A hot summer night or a bright streetlamp beside the window can interfere (干扰).
The process of nodding off can also be affected by your emotions. “You need to feel both physically and psychologically safe to sleep,” says Roxanne Prichard, a neuroscientist at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota. “If you are sleeping next to someone you don’t trust, if you’re worried that the newborn that you’re caring for might stop breathing, it’s going to be hard to fall asleep.”
One of the recommendations to address insomnia is getting out of bed and sitting somewhere quietly with dull light and just relaxing, doing something boring. You could use the time to read, listen to calming music, or do breathing exercises — anything that slows and comforts your body and mind. But avoid snacking, exercise and screens.
It’s also important to resist the urge to concentrate on your worries, especially in the middle of the night. Not only will those thoughts keep you awake, you also probably won’t make much progress on what’s keeping you up because your prefrontal cortex (前额叶皮质), a part of the brain that is good at planning and analysis, doesn’t function well for the poor blood supply at night.
Keep it in mind that even if your night’s rest is incomplete, avoid the urge to make up for it by sleeping in or napping the next day. “If you nap during the day, especially longer naps, then your brain gets few signals of sleep and will be less likely to fall asleep quickly at bedtime,” says Prichard. If losing sleep interferes with your ability to function during the day, which could indicate something physiological is at play, seeing a doctor would be necessary.
28.Which of the following is most likely to cause trouble in sleep
A.A slow soft tune. B.A dull streetlamp.
C.A cool summer night. D.A two-day-old baby.
29.Why is it hard to make much progress on the concerns in the middle of the night
A.The resistance may make people worried. B.The brain can’t plan and analyze problems.
C.The prefrontal cortex works less efficiently. D.The problems may keep people awake.
30.What’s Prichard’s attitude towards naps in the day for night’s incomplete rest
A.Opposed. B.Ambiguous. C.Supportive. D.Neutral.
31.What’s the author’s purpose in writing this passage
A.To highlight the negative effects of sleep loss.
B.To illustrate the process of falling asleep in the brain.
C.To explain the causes of poor sleep and offer solutions.
D.To discuss the importance of a good sleep environment.

Approximately 27% of jobs are at high risk of automation amid the artificial intelligence revolution, according to a news report.
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD), a global policy forum that includes 38 members, said in a Tuesday report that high-skill occupations are still at least risk of automation.
Low-to-middle skilled jobs are most at risk, including construction, farming, fishing, forestry and, to a lesser extent, production and transportation, the report said. The report said that while adoption of AI is still relatively low, rapid progress, falling technology costs and the increasing availability of workers with Al skills suggest that OECD countries may be on the edge of an AI revolution.
The OECD also found that there is little evidence of negative employment effects for firms that adopt AI so far, and workers and employees report that AI can reduce tedious and dangerous tasks, which works are dreaming to get rid of.
Nevertheless, concerns about AI in the workforce continue to spread, with the survey last year finding that three in five workers are worried about losing their job to AI within the next decade. Additionally, a similar amount worry that wages would decrease due to AI, more than half of workers are concerned about privacy and three in four say that AI has increased work pace. Rapid development and adoption mean that new skills will be needed and others will become old-fashioned, advising that governments encourage employers to provide more training, integrate AI skills into education and support diversity in the AI workforce.
The OECD said its report highlights the “urgent need for policy action” to address AI risks in the workplace and to ensure “accountability and transparency for employment-related decisions supported by AI”.
“The recent acceleration of generative Al-related developments and tools marks a technological watershed with material implications in many workplaces. There is a real need to consider longer term policy frameworks on the use of AI in the workplace and to continue to foster international cooperation to maximize the benefits while appropriately managing the downside risks,” OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann said in a statement.
32.What does the underlined word “tedious” in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Ridiculous.
B.Curious.
C.Influential.
D.Tiresome.
33.How can people keep pace with AI automation according to the OECD
A.They should increase their work pace.
B.They should receive training on skills and education.
C.They should accept lower wages of old-fashioned skills.
D.They should employ more AI related tools.
34.What can we learn from the news report
A.Governments have done a lot to deal with AI automation.
B.AI automation has many benefits for employees.
C.Most workforce are depressed to find their job taken place of by AI.
D.60% of workforce are concerned about being out of work in ten years.
35.What’s the main idea of the passage
A.AI automation puts some of the jobs at high risk.
B.AI automation will maximize its benefits in the future.
C.AI automation has made big progress and decreased costs.
D.Al automation will benefit both workforce and policy makers.

Choosing the Right University
As a higher education consultant, I’ve conducted extensive research on what students consider when choosing universities. 36 Based on the findings, I offer key selection factors that combine both academic and life aspects, which I hope will be helpful for your decision-making.
37 Students value professor engagement over pure knowledge. They assess this through small class sizes, interactive senior seminars, and practical learning opportunities like research projects and lab work — all crucial for career preparation.
Student services significantly influence daily life. Campus food, tutoring, financial support, and residence quality are all important. How to find relevant services 38 For instance, some universities offer a “student ambassador” program on the website for this purpose, which allows prospective students to get authentic campus life information.
University location deeply affects student success. 39 My research shows students thrive in cities supporting their hobbies — from hiking trails to music venues—as these activities reduce stress and build friendships. Ultimately, the right urban environment supports academic work while cultivating a sense of happiness in life.
Finally, post-graduation opportunities are a major concern. According to a 2022 survey, getting a good job is the main reason why students go to university, but few have a clear career plan. Students should check a school’s internship, co-op, and networking offerings to ease post-graduation stress. 40 In short, students must clarify their expectations and understand a school’s offerings for a great student experience.
A.Teaching quality drives college choice.
B.Research these online or ask current students.
C.A welcoming city helps both studies and daily life.
D.Top-ranked schools offer the best student services.
E.Thus, career preparation must factor into school choice.
F.Graduate employment rates may reflect teaching quality.
G.Survey data reveals students integrate campus and daily life.

Tong sui, which means “sugar water” in Cantonese, refers to Chinese sweet soups or desserts enjoyed in southern China. Overly 56 (sugar) as it may sound, tong sui is no syrup bog (沼泽) but a lightly sweetened soup celebrated 57 its nutrition — an extension of the traditional Chinese medicine belief that all food is medicinal and can help bring your body into better balance and health.
Tong sui is commonly a variety of complicated dishes 58 feature multiple ingredients as varied as papaya (木瓜) and bird’s nest (燕窝), but it is the sea coconut, in particular, that requires a mother’s love to make it to the table. First, few market stalls (摊位) sell fresh fruit, as it 59 (sour) quickly in the tropical heat, so keeping the fruit fresh has already been energy-consuming. Then, the fruit’s brown shell has to be painstakingly peeled off to reveal its glistening, milky white flesh.
60 (interesting), the sea coconut I’ve been talking about so far is not true sea coconut, and 61 every Asian restaurant menu and every canned fruit label claims is not true, either. It is actually the fruit of the toddy palm (糖棕树). The true sea coconut is 62 protected species, and its export is strictly controlled, with each fruit 63 (bear) a government-issued serial tag (序列标签). Once 64 (believe) to grow from a mythical (神话的) tree on the bottom of the sea, sea coconut shells were decorated with priceless gems (宝石) by European 65 (noble) in the 16th century.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In our biology class Mrs. Wang assigned us an experiment to explore the effects of plant hormones(激素)on plant growth.I was in a group with my classmates,Tom and Lucy.
We planted several groups of bean seedlings(幼苗) in small pots. For each group,we applied different concentrations of a plant hormone solution, ranging from a very low concentration to a relatively high one. We also had a control group with no hormone added.Over the next few days we carefully watered the seedlings and monitored their growth.
However, when we measured the height and observed the overall growth of the seedlings after a week, the results. were far from what we had assumed. The seedlings in the high-concentration hormone group didn't show the expected rapid growth.Instead, they seemed underdeveloped.
Tom looked at the data, his face full of confusion.According to the theory, the higher the hormone concentration, the faster the plants should grow,What happened Lucy nodded in agreement, equally puzzled. While other groups were discussing their clear-cut results and how the plant hormones affected their plants as expected,we were at a loss.
Suddenly, I remembered an article I had read about the interaction between plant hormones and light conditions. Maybe the light exposure during our experiment was affecting the results. I shared this thought with my group members.Tom was skeptical at first, thinking that light was a minor factor. But Lucy was interested. After some discussion, we decided to adjust our experiment by controlling the light conditions more strictly. We asked Mrs. Wang if we could use the light-controlled incubators(培养箱)in the lab. She listened to our plan and gave us the green light, along with some useful advice on how to set the light intensity and duration.
With the new plan and the use of the light-controlled incubators, we restarted our experiment.
