【原文】W: I have a question for all of us. Is all winning success Winning is really, really fun. But I am here to share my idea: Winning does not always equal success. Back to 1990, when I was first made the head coach of the UCLA Women's Gymnastics Team. I acted like a head coach whose only thought was to figure out how to win. So I became tough-talking and mean. Our team asked me for a team meeting for over two hours. They gave me examples of how my arrogance was hurtful. Then I chose to change. It is so much easier to give orders than to figure out how to motivate someone to be better. We all know this motivation takes a really long time to take root. The key to promote motivation is to develop trust through patience and honesty. We are all coaches in some ways. We all have the responsibility to develop champions in life for our world. This is what real success looks like, and that is what we call a win-win.

The youth are particularly affected: A 2018 Pew Research Center report found that 44% of teens said they often check their devices for messages or notifications as soon as they wake up, 54% said they spend too much time on their mobile phone, and 42% feel anxiety when they do not have it.(普通智能手机用户很少有连续两小时不使用设备的情况,每天解锁设备50次或更多次,过程中点击设备次数高达2617次。

If he needs to look at it, he does so only at the entrance hall. Just as the Greek Stoic philosopher (哲学家) Epictetus once said, “No man is free who is not master of himself.”(数字技术专家卡尔·纽波特推荐“电话门厅”的方法,即当他走进家门时,把手机放在前门,直到再次离开时才把手机放进口袋。
根据第三段“But in a world of electronic payments, digital documents, and remote work, a truly smartphone-free lifestyle is getting less and less likely. A better-and, for many of us, more reasonable-way is to manage addictive behavior by moderating (使适度) device use. This isn’t just a matter of setting screen-time limits you can easily break; rather, you can start to develop specific habits to replace the unhealthy ones that keep sending you back to your phone.(但在电子支付、数字文档和远程办公的世界里,真正摆脱智能手机的生活方式越来越不可能实现。对我们许多人来说,一个更好、更合理的方法是通过适度使用设备来管理成瘾行为。这不仅仅是设定一个你很容易打破的屏幕时间限制的问题;相反,你可以开始养成特定的习惯,来取代那些让你不断回到手机上的不健康习惯)”并结合全文可知,文章主要讲述了手机成瘾的现象及其危害,并提出了管理成瘾行为的建议。A选项“如何戒掉手机瘾”最符合文章标题。故选A。

Hummingbirds (蜂鸟) are a very important part of Mexico’s ecosystem, but because of the ever-spreading city landscape, they face all sorts of serious dangers. That’s where 73-year-old Catia Lattouf de Arida comes in. As a self-taught hummingbird care-taker, she devotes most of her free time and resources to nursing the tiny birds back to health. Her home in Mexico City has become known as a hummingbird hospital.
Catia’s story as a hummingbird nurse began in 2011, at a very difficult moment in her life. At that time, she focused on her battle with cancer and fell into a depression (抑郁). She was walking on the street one day when she noticed a hummingbird that had suffered a serious eye injury. The kindhearted woman took it home and named it Gucci. She managed to nurse Gucci back to health, but she said it was Gucci that saved her. Why Because the hummingbird managed to pull her out of the sadness and loneliness that had taken over her life.
Word of her success spread among Catia’s friends, and before long some of them began bringing her injured hummingbirds. She didn’t repulse them at all. She began to study the bird and their habits in order to better take care of them, and after 11 years of experience, the 73-year-old woman is considered an expert on hummingbirds.
In order to raise awareness of the difficult situation of hummingbirds in Mexico, Catia Lattouf de Arida started posting videos of the patients in her Mexico City apartment on social media, and many of them became popular. That’s when the need for her nursing services really blew up. She has cared for hundreds of hummingbirds in her 11-year career, when she has had as many as 50 of them in her apartment at any one time. She spends pretty much all her time looking after the tiny birds.

A shocking eruption has ended Iceland’s lengthy volcano warning as a flash of light burst across the evening sky and the lava (岩浆) flowed out quickly in a breathtaking show of the Earth’s power. But the eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula, about 50km southwest of the capital, Reykjavik, wasn’t expected to give out large amounts of ash (灰尘) into the air.
By early Tuesday afternoon, the size of the volcanic eruption continued to diminish. The lava flow, which reached as high as 30m, was also falling and was a quarter of what it was at the time of the eruption.
The November evacuation meant few people were near the site of the eruption and authorities had warned others to stay away. Nonetheless, residents of the evacuated fishing community had mixed emotions as they watched orange flames touch the dark sky. More than a month after the evacuation, many were still living in temporary (临时的) accommodations and did not expect to ever be able to return to live in their homes. “The town might end up under the lava,” said Ael Kermarec, a tourist. “It’s amazing to see, but there’s kind of a bittersweet feeling at the moment.”
University of Bristol Professor Matthew Watson said that the eruption was expected to continue getting weak, but he had no idea how long it could last. “Residents should strictly follow travel advice because new eruptions can quickly put people in harm’s way. This style of eruption is among the most impressive ever seen, and there will be a strong pull for tourists and locals,” Watson said. “It’s just something from a movie.”
Residents were evacuated and a state of emergency was announced in Iceland more than a month ago. However, the uneasy waiting game still continues.
28.Which of the following best explains “diminish” underlined in paragraph 2
A.Keep growing. B.Be destroyed.
C.Get dangerous. D.Become smaller.
29.What did Kermarec want to say
A.He couldn’t see the breathtaking show. B.He forgot to share the feeling online.
C.He was worried about the town. D.He wasn’t ready for a new life.
30.What can we infer about the eruption from Watson’s words
A.It may draw people to the site. B.It will threaten wildlife.
C.It attracts many movie lovers. D.It drives tourists to leave.
31.What does the last paragraph suggest
A.Playing games is an approach to killing time.
B.It will be a long time before the disaster ends.
C.Local residents will return home in one month.
D.Authorities should announce a warning early.

By now, nearly everyone knows we can be addicted to our digital devices (设备). The average smartphone user seldom goes two hours without using her device, unlocks her device 50 or more times a day, and taps on it as many as 2,617 times in the process. The youth are particularly affected: A 2018 Pew Research Center report found that 44% of teens said they often check their devices for messages or notifications as soon as they wake up, 54% said they spend too much time on their mobile phone, and 42% feel anxiety when they do not have it.
A device addiction is quite harmful. According to the technology research firm Compare Camp, 26% of car accidents in the U.S. today are due to the use of smartphones while driving. Besides, it is concerned with depression and anxiety. These problems are known to almost everyone; the solutions, less so. Some experts suggest taxation (征税) to help limit digital overuse. Others say the only way to beat an addiction is to quit cold turkey and go device-free.
But in a world of electronic payments, digital documents, and remote work, a truly smartphone-free lifestyle is getting less and less likely. A better-and, for many of us, more reasonable-way is to manage addictive behavior by moderating (使适度) device use. This isn’t just a matter of setting screen-time limits you can easily break; rather, you can start to develop specific habits to replace the unhealthy ones that keep sending you back to your phone.
The digital-technology expert Cal Newport recommends the “phone foyer” method, that is he leaves his phone by the front door when he walks into his house, and doesn’t put it in his pocket until he leaves again. If he needs to look at it, he does so only at the entrance hall. Just as the Greek Stoic philosopher (哲学家) Epictetus once said, “No man is free who is not master of himself.”
32.How does the writer explain phone addiction in paragraph 1
A.By giving reasons. B.By listing data.
C.By raising questions. D.By making comparisons.
33.What does the underlined word “quit cold turkey” mean in paragraph 2
A.Charge a tax. B.Stop eating turkeys.
C.Stop using smartphones. D.Discourage smoking.
34.Why does the author quote Epictetus in the last paragraph
A.To show respect to Epictetus.
B.To prove the “phone foyer” method.
C.To advise people to be a master.
D.To inspire people to get rid of phone addiction.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text

B.Effect of Phone Addiction on Teens
C.Phone Addiction Ruins Our Freedom
D.Device Addiction Contributes to Anxiety

The summer break had started. Bilal, a teenager, was excited to finally have the free time to play video games on his PlayStation and endlessly surf the internet on his phone. The digital world was his playground, a place where he could escape into adventures and challenges that kept him entertained for hours on end.
His parents were tired of always trying to stop him, constantly telling him that spending so much time online and on social media wasn’t good for his physical health. They worried about his eyesight and the lack of physical activity. But Bilal never listened. He was very addicted to the e-world. The appeal of virtual achievements and social interactions was too strong for him to resist.
One day, after getting fed up, his mother discussed Bilal with his grandparents. “Is there any way we can get him away from this internet world ” she asked, her voice filled with desperation.
His grandfather replied, “Yes, there is a way. I am planning to visit our village for a week. I am thinking of taking Bilal along. It will be a new experience for him to see a simple lifestyle. Besides, the internet signals are very bad there, so he won’t be able to stay online very often.”
His mother was happy to hear this. “That’s a very good idea,” she replied, hopeful that this could be the turning point for Bilal.
She excitedly went and shared it with Bilal, hoping he would be happy about going with his grandparents, but he refused, saying the trip would be boring without the internet. “How would I spend my days ” he complained.
Just then his grandmother entered the room and explained calmly to him that it would be an exciting trip.
