In my childhood, my parents would take me to watch games. I loved the excitement I would feel when we went to watch these events, especially when the scores were close until the very end of the game. My meaningful attempt at sports began with T-ball at the age of three, progressed to the basketball court at six, and finally turned into a firm devotion to the game of baseball from the age of eight onward.
One of my most memorable moments was at the World Series when I was eleven and played on the Texas Rattlers. The July heat was unbearable. It was the semi-final game. Sweating like a pig, we ran into the dugout (候场处) for our last at-bat (上场击球); we were down one run now. I was the second hitter and captain of the team, and I was ready for this moment. In the next few seconds, I had the chance to show my strength as a hitter and my ability to be a leader under pressure by hitting a home run! We carried the day!
As the team captain, I remember the time I had to give a speech to my team because we had lost an important game. I was nervous, but I knew it was my responsibility to cheer my team up when they were cast down. This experience has shaped my mind, making me become more independent, so I’m obtaining the ability to talk like a leader in front of my team and a group. Sports get it through my head that you can’t win at everything in life all the time.
On and off the field, I am more iron-willed, disciplined (遵守纪律的) and respectful, and a better leader. I have had so many awesome experiences through sports, which have taught me much and prepared me for the future. The memories of all the trips and diverse experiences I have had will be with me for a lifetime.
24. What can we learn about the author from the first paragraph
A. He often changed sports. B. He was a gifted child in sports.
C. He had a busy childhood. D. He was fond of sports from childhood.
25. How did the author feel during the semi-final at the World Series
A. Stressed and tired. B. Proud and confident.
C. Unbearable and down. D. Surprised and energetic.
26. What was tough for the author according to paragraph 3
A. Leading his team to face failure. B. Giving a speech before the team.
C. Improving his leadership qualities. D. Overcoming his own nervousness.
27. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Interesting Life of Sports B. Life Lessons from Sports
C. Deep Affection for Sports D. Special Moments in Sports
C
Have you ever seen a live spade-toothed whale (铲齿中喙鲸) It is the world’s rarest kind of whale. Do you know how many of them exist, what they eat, or even where they live in the southern Pacific Ocean Scientists in New Zealand may finally get to learn more about them.
The country’s conservation agency said that it believed a dead spade-toothed whale had been washed up on a South Island beach earlier this month. Scientists identified the whale by its color patterns and the shape of its organs--its head, mouth and teeth. Hannah Hendriks is a sea life expert for the Department of Conservation. She said, “This is going to lead to some amazing science and world-first information.”
In the past, only a few other dead spade-toothed whales appeared on New Zealand’s beaches. Most notably, scientists didn’t have a chance to closely examine them, but now, they will be able to. They have moved the whale to a cold place for their investigation.
“Spade tooth whales live deep in the ocean. They come to the surface so rarely that scientists only know their general location in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is home to some of the world’s deepest ocean areas. It’s very hard to do research on marine mammals (海洋哺乳动物) if you don’t see them at sea,” Hendriks said. “You don’t know where to look.”
Kirsten Young is a senior lecturer at the UK’s University of Exeter. She studies spade-toothed whales. She wrote in an email that it took many years and a lot of efforts by researchers and local people to identify the whales. “This new discovery makes me wonder how many there are in the deep ocean and how they live,” Young said.
In fact, researchers studying the mammal couldn’t confirm if the species died out or went extinct, until in 2010, two spade toothed whales, both dead, appeared on a New Zealand beach. Samples of their cells later showed they were spade-toothed whales.
28. How does the author begin the text
A. By raising questions. B. By giving examples.
C. By listing numbers. D. By making comparisons.
29. Why is the discovery of the spade-toothed whale important
A. It shows a new kind of whale exists.
B. It identifies the whale by its place of death.
C. It confirms the whale’s population is on the rise.
D. It allows scientists to study the whale up close.
30. What did Hendriks stress about the spade-toothed whale research in paragraph 4
A. Its reasons. B. Its benefits. C. Its challenge. D. Its process.
31. What is Young’s attitude to the new discovery
A. Worried. B. Curious. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent.
D
With fundamental developments in the field of technology, some experts foresee serious risks to jobs and employability (就业能力) in the coming years due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). Approximately 27% of jobs are at high risk of automation (自动化) during the artificial intelligence era.
Low and middle-skilled jobs are most at risk, including construction, farming, fishing, forestry and, to a lesser extent, production and transportation. High-skilled occupations, despite being more exposed to recent progress in AI, face the least risk of automation.
While the adoption of AI is still relatively low, rapid progress, falling technology costs and the increasing availability of workers with AI skills suggest that the world may be on the edge of an AI revolution (革命). So far there is little evidence of a negative employment impact on companies that adopt AI. Workers and employers say that AI can reduce boring and dangerous tasks, leading to greater employee engagement and physical safety.
Nevertheless, a recent survey showed that three in five workers are worried about losing their job to AI within the next decade. Additionally, a similar number of workers worry that wages would decrease due to AI. More than half of workers are concerned about privacy and three in four say that AI has increased work pace.
In my opinion, for the better protection of the labour market and workers in the coming years, governments should encourage employers to provide more training, integrate (加入) AI skills into education and support diversity in the AI workforce. There is an urgent need for policy action to address AI risks in the workplace and to ensure accountability for and openness to employment-related decisions supported by AI. The recent speedup of generative AI-related developments and tools marks a technological watershed (转折点) with material implications in many workplaces. Longer-term policy frameworks for the use of AI in the workplace should be considered and closer international cooperation should be seen to maximize the benefits while appropriately managing the risks.
32. Who may be most affected by automation
A. A tour guide. B. A building worker. C. A coffee producer. D. A farming professional.
33.What is the author’s attitude towards the adoption of AI in the workplace
A. Deeply concerned. B. Strongly opposed.
C. Carefully optimistic. D. Relatively conservative.
34.What do the figures in paragraph 4 imply
A. Harmed personal privacy. B .Decreased job satisfaction.
C. AI-related positions’ popularity. D .Workers’ broad concern over AI.
35.What is the author’s advice in the last paragraph
A. Adopting policies to regulate AI’s impact. B. Limiting AI’s application in the workplace.
C. Promoting cooperation between AI firms. D. Investing more in AI education in colleges.

第二节读后续写(满分25分)
“I’m going to miss you so much, Poppy,” said the tall, thin teenager. He bent down to hug his old friend goodbye. He stood up, hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to let his emotions get the better of him.
His parents were not quite able to keep theirs under control. They had driven their son several hours out of town to the university where he would soon be living and studying. It was time to say goodbye for now at last. The family hugged and smiled through misty eyes and then laughed.
The boy lifted the last bag onto his shoulder, and flashed a bright smile. “I guess this is it,” he said. “I’ll see you back home in a month, okay ” His parents nodded, and they watched as he walked out of sight into the crowds of hundreds of students and parents. The boy’s mother turned to the dog, “Okay, Poppy, time to go back home.”
The house seemed quiet as a tomb without the boy living there. All that week, Poppy didn’t seem interested in her dinner, her favorite toy, or even in her daily walk. Her owners were sad too, but they knew their son would be back to visit. Poppy didn’t.
They offered the dog some of her favorite peanut butter treats. They even let her sit on the sofa, but the old girl just wasn’t her usual cheerful self. Her owners started to get worried. “What should we do to cheer Poppy up ” asked Dad. “We’ve tried everything.”
“I have an idea, but it might be a little crazy,” smiled Mom. “Without anybody left in the house but us, this place could use a bit of fun. Let’s get a little dog for Poppy.”
It didn’t take long before they walked through the front door carrying a big box. Poppy welcomed them home as usual, but when she saw the box, she stopped. She put her nose on it. Her tail began wagging (摆动) ever so slowly, then faster as she caught the smell.
注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为100左右;

六,读后续写(满分25分)
One possible answer
Dad opened the box and a sweet little dog appeared. Poppy's tail wagged wildly as she sniffed the puppy curiously. The little dog timidly licked Poppy's nose, and suddenly the old dog's eyes sparkled with joy again. From that day on, Poppy became like a mother to the puppy, teaching it how to play fetch and sharing her bed. The house was filled with laughter and barks once more.
A few weeks later, the boy arrived home from the university. As he opened the door, two excited dogs came running to greet him. Poppy jumped up to lick his face while the puppy circled his feet happily. The boy laughed in surprise, "Who's this little guy " His parents smiled, "This is Poppy's new friend and our new family member." Seeing Poppy's happiness, the boy knew his old friend would never be lonely again
Another possible answer
Dad opened the box and a sweet little dog appeared. Poppy was amazed. She wagged furiously. She barked with joy. She smiled, her tongue lolling out as she investigated the surprise. The little pup was not shy and immediately starting yipping and jumping around the older dog. “That didn’t take long,” remarked Mom, as both dogs went roaring around the house in an impromptu game of chase. Dad laughed.
A few weeks later, the boy arrived home from university. He had missed Poppy and was looking forward to seeing her. When he bent down to give her a big hug, he fell over in surprise as a small golden cloud came racing up to lick his face too. “Oh my gosh, who is this ” he exclaimed. His parents laughed at the look of shock on his face. “That’s Pee-wee,” said Dad. “I can’t believe you got yourselves a puppy!” “We didn’t,” replied Mom. “This puppy is for Poppy!”高一年级2024-2025学年第二学期5月考试
