Bison
Bison can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and are herbivores Despite their size, they
are very mobile and can run up to 30 mph and jump up to six feet vertically. In1902, America’s wild

by their haunting bugling sound. In the summer, see them in Cascade Meadows, Madison Canyon and
Lamar Valley.
Grizzly Bear
One of two species of bears in Yellowstone, grizzlies are big. They can weigh up to 700 pounds
and have a distinctive hump between their shoulders. Grizzlies are omnivores and will eat bugs, plants,

Dad’s comb(梳子)was jade green. I heard he bought it when he married Mum which made the
comb two years older than I was. Every night, he would smile, hand me the comb and say, "Be a good
girl and help Daddy clean it, Ok "
I was more than happy to do it. At age five this simple task brought me such joy. I would excitedly
turn the tap(水龙头)on, then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could. Satisfied
that I’d done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would smile at me and place the
comb on top of his wallet.
About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started
primary school. That was when things started to change. He didn’t come home as much as he used to
— just a couple of times a week. And when he did come home, it was always late and I’d already be
in bed. I started to get mad. I stopped waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to
check on him.
Today, I’m no longer a kid. I’ve graduated from college and got a job. Dad’s business has got
back on track. Things are better now. Yet the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me persisted.
Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. As usual, I helped him carry his
bags into his study. When I turned to leave, he said, "Hey, would you like to help me clean my comb "
I looked at him a while, then took the comb and headed to the sink.
I passed the clean comb back to Dad. He looked at it and smiled. But this time, I noticed something
different. My dad has aged. He has wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiles, yet his smile is still as
heartwarming as before. The smile of a father who just wants a good life for his family. Dad carefully
placed his comb on top of his wallet.
After so many years, he still organizes his personal items in the same careful way. I guess some
things never change. And for that, I’m glad.
24.What caused the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me
A.My ignorance of Dad. B.Dad’s absence from the family.
C.Generation gap. D.Dad’s failure in business.
25.Which of the following can best describe Dad
A.Humble and realistic. B.Demanding but patient.
C.Gentle but strict. D.Hardworking and caring.
26.Why did Dad ask his daughter to clean his comb before her birthday
A.To follow his old habit. B.To praise her helpfulness.
C.To give her a lesson. D.To fix their relationship.
27.Which saying concludes the text best
A.Some things never change. B.Like father, like daughter.
C.Yesterday once more. D.Let bygones be bygones.

Jackdaws ( 寒鸦 ) are the smallest member of the crow family. They often live in a crowd. Indeed,
when cold weather comes, they gather in the hundreds (and sometimes thousands) every evening so
that they can sleep in the same place. If you’ve ever heard jackdaws during their evening gatherings
and morning departures, you’ll know they are not quiet birds. Despite being fairly low-volume during
the day, they are really loud on either side of their night-time get-togethers. Why might this be
A team of the Cornish Jackdaw Project set out to determine why jackdaws are so noisy before
they depart from their sleeping spot. The team’s theory was that the morning calls might be a jackdaw
version of “voting”. The researchers suspected that each individual’s call might count as an “I’m in!”.
When a certain amount of “I’m in!”s are called —and so a certain volume of noise is reached -the
group might then depart as a unit.
To test this idea, the researchers artificially increased the level of calls during the jackdaws’
natural morning calls. Their expectation was that, if jackdaws really are “voting with their voice” to
decide when to depart the sleeping site, artificially adding calls would make them leave earlier than
they naturally would have done. Subsequent experiments confirmed their expectation. The team
therefore showed that jackdaws use their calls as a sort of voting system.
You might wonder why this happens. The researchers suggest that individual jackdaws benefit
from the voting system because they are less at risk of being killed and they can get more access to
social information — such as where to find food.
So the loud calls of jackdaws in the morning are therefore not the pure chaos it sounds like. If
you are ever being driven mad by the sound in the morning, you can find comfort in the fact that the
louder they get, the sooner they will leave you in peace.
28.What aspect of jackdaws confused scientists
A.Their strong team spirit. B.Their preference for noisy habitats.
C.Their collective sleeping habit. D.Their unusual calling behavior.
29.What happened to the jackdaws when artificial calls were added
A.They stopped calling together. B.They left their sleeping spot earlier.
C.They became noisier and more active. D.They changed their sleeping location.
30.What does the voting system mean to individual jackdaws
A.A signal of seeking food. B.A strategy for better survival.
C.A way to attract potential partners. D.A method of displaying social skills.
31.What can be the best title for the text
A.Jackdaws are Noise Makers.
B.Jackdaws Have a Complex Voting System.
C.Jackdaws ‘Vote’ to Make a Group Decision.
D.Jackdaws ‘Vote’ to Choose Their Group Leaders.

AI Morality (道德), edited by British philosopher David Edmonds, is a collection of essays
exploring how AI will completely change our lives and the moral dilemmas it will set off, painting a
picture of the reasons to be cheerful and to worry. In this excerpt ( 节选 ), Muriel Leuenberger, a
postdoctoral researcher in the ethics (道德) of technology and AI at the University of Zurich, focuses
on this very modern identity crisis.
An AI that tells you who you are and what you should do is based on the idea that your identity
is something you can discover — information you or an AI may access. But this view misses an
important point: we also choose who we are.
Constantly relying on AI recommendation systems might calcify your identity. By
recommending products and other contents, you become more likely to consume, think, and act in the
way the AI system initially considered suitable for you, gradually influencing you so much that you
develop into who it took you to originally be.
This is, however, not a necessary feature of recommendation systems. In theory, they could be
designed to broaden the user’s horizon, instead of maximizing involvement by showing customers
what they already like. In practice, that’s not how they function.
Besides, by giving decisions to AI, you may fail to meet the moral demand to take responsibility
for who you are. This concern weighs particularly heavy when making the most substantial decisions.
But even in ordinary cases like selecting movies, music, books, or news, it would be good to put
recommendation systems aside from time to time, which in turn, calls for research, risk, and self-
reflection.
An AI might state a lot of facts about you, but it is your job to find out what they mean to you
and how you let them define you. The same holds for actions. Your actions are not just a way of seeking
well-being. Through your actions, you choose what kind of person you are.
32.What does the collection of essays focus on
A.Potential benefits and risks of AI. B.Various dominant roles of AI.
C.Recent policies on AI development. D.Individual estimates of AI’s future.
33.What does the underlined word “calcify” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Admit. B.Weaken. C.Remember. D.Reject.
34.What is the recommendation system designed for
A.Developing users’ broader vision. B.Prioritizing the most ideal choice.
C.Highlighting existing preferences. D.Attracting consumers’ engagement.
35.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A.To prove the uniqueness of AI. B.To stress the huge influence of AI.
C.To present the confusion brought by AI. D.To advocate independent thinking in AI era.

A few years ago, the company I worked for sent my wife and me to live in New York for a year.
I've always loved running, so I was really happy when I found out I lived next to Central Park. This
meant that every morning I could go for a run before I went to work. Because a lot of people had told
me to be careful of robbers in the park, so usually I didn't take anything with me.How could they rob
me if I didn't have anything
But one morning, my wife gave me a $ 10 bill and asked me to buy some bread on the way. It was
a beautiful morning and the park was quiet with very few people walking or jogging around. While I
was running through the park, another jogger knocked into me. He apologized and continued running.
For a while, I didn't think too much of it. However, when I noticed the wide path where I was
running, I thought it was kind of strange. The warning of robbers in the park occurred to me. "It could
have been a robber!" I suddenly became alarmed, so I checked my pocket and found that the money
was missing. Without thinking twice, I ran after that jogger.
I finally caught up and held him by the arm. I shouted, "Give me the $ 10 bill! Now! "I am not
usually a hotheaded(性急的)person, but I got really angry this time. I couldn't believe the robbery
was actually happening to me. Filled with anger, I shook my fist at him. This seemed to frighten him.
He quickly put his hand in his pocket and gave me the money. Then he ran away as fast as he could.
I bought the bread and went home. As soon as I got home, I couldn't wait to tell my wife my story.
"You won't believe what happened to me," I started with pride. She immediately stopped me."I know
you left the money for the bread on the kitchen table." 注意:

A Memorable Housework Experience
One memorable housework experience for me was that I decided to clean the entire kitchen on my own. It was a Sunday afternoon, and seeing my mother exhausted after a week of hard work. I started with the dishes and moved on to the counters and floors. As I worked, I realized how much time and effort my mother spent keeping the house tidy. It gave me a deeper appreciation for her devotion and hard work. Moreover, the sense of accomplishment after seeing the clean kitchen was indescribable. It taught me the value of hard work and the importance of contributing to the household. I'll always value this experience.
67
Looking at the money on the table, I stood there, shocked. The pictures of my shaking fist at the jogger flashed into my mind. I found to (1my horror that I mistook the jogger for a robber. "What's going on " asked my wife. I was lost for words, shifting my gaze from the $ 10 bill to the bread. "I robbed a jogger!" Embarrassment hung in the air. The next morning, my desire to apologize urged me to the same spot where I stopped the jogger hotheadedly. But the park witnessed no sign of him.
For several days, I waited at the same spot. However, never had 1spotted the jogger again until a similar figure jogged into my sight. A second look told me that he was the very person I had been waiting for. Heart pounding,I raced over to his side. He stopped. 'Excuse me. I...I'm so sorry, and here is your $ 10 bill."I stammered and tucked the money into his hand.Confusion filled his eyes. My five minutes' explanation eventually turned his confusion into understanding. "How about eating breakfast together " he beamed.

I'm here today with Matt Milter, who has completed his 29,000-mile journey in just six weeks, with a total of 180 hours in flight. Beginning in California,he made 25 stops in 14 different countries including England, Italy, Greece, Egypt and Thailand. His final trip was a 16-hour flight from Hawaii back to California, just half an hour less than his longest flight from Samoa to Hawaii. Born in South Dakota, Matt is a freshman at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has said that as a child he was feared of flying. All of that changed when he received his pilot license at just 17. After that,he only spent a few years planning everything out before beginning his journey around the world. Matt! First, why don't you tell all of our listeners about the craziest thing you saw during your adventure

根据第一段中“Despite being fairly low-volume during the day, they are really loud on either side of their night-time get-togethers. Why might this be (尽管白天的声音很小,但在晚上聚集的时候,它们的声音非常大。为什么会这样呢?)”可知,让科学家们困惑的是它们不寻常的叫声。故选D。
29.推理判断题。根据第二段中“The researchers suspected that each individual’s call might count as an “I’m in!”. When a certain amount of “I’m in!” s are called —and so a certain volume of noise is reached -the group might then depart as a unit.(研究人员怀疑,每只寒鸦的呼叫都可能被视为“我加入!”当一定量的“我加入!”当噪音达到一定的音量时,这群乌鸦就会作为一个整体离开。)”以及第三段中“To test this idea, the researchers artificially increased the level of calls during the jackdaws’ natural morning calls. (为了验证这一观点,研究人员人为地增加了寒鸦自然鸣叫时的叫声水平)”以及本段中“Their expectation was that, if jackdaws really are “voting with their voice” to decide when to depart the sleeping site, artificially adding calls would make them leave earlier than they naturally would have done.
根据倒数第二段“You might wonder why this happens. The researchers suggest that individual jackdaws benefit from the voting system because they are less at risk of being killed and they can get more access to social information — such as where to find food.(你可能想知道为什么会这样。研究人员认为,个别寒鸦从投票系统中受益,因为它们被杀死的风险更小,而且它们可以获得更多的社会信息——比如在哪里可以找到食物。)”可知,个别寒鸦从投票系统中受益,因为它们被杀死的风险更小,即为一个更好生存的策略。故选B。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“Despite being fairly low-volume during the day, they are really loud on either side of their night-time get-togethers. Why might this be (尽管白天的声音很小,但在晚上聚集的时候,它们的声音非常大。为什么会这样呢?)”以及通读全文,文章回答了寒鸦在晚上聚会时为什么会发出非常大的声音即寒鸦在离开睡眠地点前会发出大量的嘎吱声,研究人员认为这是它们用声音投票决定离开的方式。C选项“Jackdaws ‘Vote’ to Make a Group Decision.( 寒鸦“投票”做出集体决定。)”
答案A BA D
根据文章第一段“AI Morality (Oxford University Press, 2024), edited by British philosopher David Edmonds, is a collection of essays exploring how AI will completely change our lives and the moral dilemmas it will set off, painting a picture of the reasons to be cheerful and to worry(英国哲学家大卫 埃德蒙兹编辑的《人工智能道德》(牛津大学出版社,2024年)是一本论文集,探讨了人工智能将如何彻底改变我们的生活以及它将引发的道德困境,描绘了我们应该感到高兴和担忧的原因)”可知,这本论文集关注的是人工智能带来的潜在好处和风险。故选A项。
根据文章第三段“By recommending products and other contents, you become more likely to consume, think, and act in the way the AI system initially considered suitable for you, gradually influencing you so much that you develop into who it took you to originally be(通过推荐产品和其他内容,你更有可能按照人工智能系统最初认为适合你的方式去消费、思考和行动,逐渐对你产生很大影响,以至于你变成了它最初认为你应该成为的样子)”可知,不断依赖人工智能推荐系统会让你逐渐变成它所认为的样子,而不是自己主动去选择和发展,这意味着你的身份会受到限制,逐渐“弱化”。
根据文章第四段“This is, however, not a necessary feature of recommendation systems. In theory, they could be designed to broaden the user's horizon, instead of maximizing involvement by showing customers what they already like(然而,这并不是推荐系统的必要特征。从理论上讲,它们可以被设计成拓宽用户的视野,而不是通过向客户展示他们已经喜欢的东西来最大化参与度)”可知,推荐系统理论上的设计目的是拓宽用户的视野,故选A项。
35.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“An AI might state a lot of facts about you, but it is your job to find out what they mean to you and how you let them define you. The same holds for actions. Your actions are not just a way of seeking well-being. Through your actions, you choose what kind of person you are(人工智能可能会陈述很多关于你的事实,但弄清楚这些事实对你意味着什么以及你如何让它们定义你是你的工作。
