There are competitions held all over the world that attract millions of viewers every year. Here are four of the craziest competitions in the world.
Worm(幼虫)Charming Championship
This competition involves contestants using a small area of grass and a number of different methods to try and attract as many worms as possible from the ground in a set amount of time. Participants use everything to make noise in the ground to try and drive the worms out. The current world record is held by 10-year-old Sophie Smith from England, who in 2009 collected 567 worms in 30 minutes.
Toe(脚趾头)Wrestling Competition
The wonderful sport of toe wrestling was first thought up in a pub in Wetton, England, in 1974. Four friends were angry at the fact that the UK never produced any world champions and so created a sport that they could succeed in. The competition has become popular and there is a regular world championship held in Ashbourne, England, every year. It’s very similar to arm wrestling and sees competitors lock toes and wrestle until one of them “pins” the other’s foot for 3 seconds.
World Beard and Moustache Championship
The competition has been running since petitors come from all over the world to see who can grow and style the best beard and moustache. The competition actually has 17 different categories, including Best Freestyle Moustache, Best Natural Goatee and the all-time classic: Best Natural Full Beard and Styled Moustache.
Sauna(桑拿浴)Championship
The World Sauna Championships were held in Heinola, Finland and ran from 1999 to 2010. The crazy competition saw contestants sit in a sauna for as long as possible, with the winner being the last person standing(or rather sitting and sweating). The starting temperature was 110 degrees and water would be poured onto the stove every 30 seconds. The competition came to an end in 2010, though, when tragedy struck and one of the contestants died during the event and another was severely injured.
21. What does the text say about Worm Charming Championship
A. It has no time limit.
B. Its records are broken frequently.
C. It has no requirement for tools used.
D. Its participants are mainly teenagers.

Dame Zaha Hadid, the Iraqi-born British architect whose tall structures left a mark on skylines and imaginations around the world and in the process reshaped architecture for the modern age.
She was not an average designer. She liberated architectural geometry(几何), giving it a whole new expressive identity. Geometry became, in her hands, a vehicle for unprecedented and eye-popping new spaces. Her buildings elevated uncertainty to an art, conveyed in the odd ways.
Her work implying mobility, speed, freedom and uncertainty spoke to a worldview widely shared by a younger generation. “I am not European, I don’t do conventional work and I am a woman, ’’ Strikingly Ms. Hadid never allowed herself on her work to be categorized by her background or her gender. And she was one of a kind, a path breaker. In 2004, she became the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s Nobel.
Zaha Hadid was born in Baghdad on October 31, 1950. Then in 1972, she arrived at the architectural association in London, a center for experimental design. Her teachers included Elia Zenghelis and Rem Koolhaas. “They aroused my ambition, ” she would recall, “and taught me to trust even my strangest instincts. ” By the 1980s she had established her own practice in London. And she began to draw attention with an unrealized plan in 1982—1983 for the Peak Club.
Her partner, Patrick Schumacher, played an instrumental and collaborative role in her career. Mr. Schumacher coined the term parametric(参数的) design to include the computer-based approach that helped the firm’s most weird concepts become reality. Ms. Hadid called what resulted in an organic language of architecture, based on these new tools, which allow us to combine highly complex forms into a fluid(流线的) and complete whole.
Her sources were nature, history or whatever she sought useful. When her Rosenthal Center, a relatively modest project, opened in 2003, Herbert Muschamp, the architecture critic declared it “the most important American building to be completed since the end of the cold war”.
“She was bigger than life, a force of nature, ” as Amale Andraos, the dean of Columbia University’s architecture school, put it, “she was a pioneer. ”
She was. For women, for what cities can desire to build and for the art of architecture.
24. What features the structures designed by Zaha Hadid
A. Free architectural geometry.
B. Conventional design.
C. Odd imagination.
D. Colorful patterns.
25. According to Paragraphs 3 and 4, which of the following statement is TRUE
A. Zaha Hadid taught herself to trust instincts.
B. The plan for the Peak Club hasn’t been carried out.
C. The architect’s gender influenced her work dramatically.
D. Zaha Hadid was the first architect to win the Pritzker Prize.
26. How did the computer-based approach make a difference to Zaha Hadid’s work
A. It contributes to realizing the strange ideas.
B. It simplifies the complex structure as a whole.
C. It provides new tools to translate the language.
D. It serves as an instrument to interpret the concepts.
27. The purpose of the passage is to ________________.
A. present Zaha Hadid’s life experience
B. praise Zaha Hadid’s inspiration and diligence
C. compare Zaha Hadid’s works in different times
D. show Zaha Hadid’s great contributions to architecture
C
When a senior manager sits down with a prospective employee for an in-person interview, the preferred questions often stick to the applicant’s interest in the position and company, according to a survey by staffing firm Accountemps. But questions can sometimes be a bit more. . . wacky.
“What kind of animals would you be ” is one of the unique questions mentioned by senior managers in the survey. It is a way to keep interviewees on their feet and stimulate interesting discussion.
However, such questions are asked less frequently, the research shows. Just 6 percent of senior managers said their favorite questions to ask are theoretical questions, the lowest total except for “other, ” which also came in at 6 percent. A lot of senior managers said their favorite questions are ones “relating to the position or company, ” at 39 percent. These questions include “Why do you want to work here ”, “What do you know about this company ” etc. They are meant to determine if candidates have done their homework and how enthusiastic they are about the position.
Questions about “previous or current experience” were referred to by 22 percent of senior managers as their favorite type of question. These inquiries — “Why did you leave your last job ” and “What did you like or dislike about your last job ” for instance — are meant to look into applicants’ work history patterns and their overall fit for the position.
Further down the list, 18 percent of senior managers’ favorite questions had to do with personalities and characteristics. They prefer, for example, “What are your strengths and weaknesses ” and “What’ re your hobbies ”. And 10 percent had to do with personal goals and interests (“Where do you see yourself in five or 10 years ”) .
That means that managers strongly prefer to ask candidates questions about their interest in the position and work history. But there’s always room for a sudden surprise.
28. In this passage, the word “wacky” (paragraph 1) is closest in meaning to “_________”.
A. common B. aggressive C. inevitable D. strange
29. According to the survey, senior managers’ most preferred questions are meant to find out ________.
A. what work experience candidates had
B. how well- prepared candidates are
C. what candidates are most interested in
D. how knowledgeable candidates are
30. What will senior managers ask to determine how suitable a candidate is for the position
A. What kind of animal would you be
B. Why do you want to work here
C. What did you like or dislike about your last job
D. Where do you see yourself in five or 10 years
31. What is the passage mainly about
A. Interview questions favoured by managers.
B. Managers’ attitudes to interview questions.
C. How managers prepare interview questions.
D. How managers make interview questions interesting.
D
When visiting a doctor a few years from now, you can expect to be accompanied by a virtual version of yourself. This so-called digital twin will be a working model of your body that can be displayed onto a physician’s computer screen. Updated with your latest vital signs, it will help the doctor make an accurate diagnosis. It also opens the door for medicines and procedures designed specifically for you, increasing recovery rates.
This might seem like fantasy, but the foundations are being laid. Researchers at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL)already use computer simulations(模拟)of the hearts of patients to assess different treatments for a heart disorder. It would be far too dangerous to experiment this way on someone’s real heart.
Digital twins are starting to pop up everywhere, monitoring the health of jet engines on airliners and letting carmakers shave years off the development of new models by simulating test drives and crashes. All this is being turbocharged(推动) by recent progress in artificial intelligence (AI), which gives twins the ability to make predictions about their physical counterparts(对应的事物), and fine-tune themselves on new information.
Digital twins began as basic computer models of physical objects and systems and have become more advanced with computers becoming more plex design and modelling software means many physical objects initially take shape in the virtual world. Small sensors feed twins with real-time data, ensuring that they mirror their physical counterparts.
Digital twins make it easier for humans to tackle complex problems, allowing people to peer into the future, spotting problems before they materialize and testing wild ideas without real-world consequences. For businesses, this should mean better designs and operations. For society, the promise is equally appealing: personalized health care, and clues as to how the planet might avoid environmental catastrophe.
Could these virtual twins go out of control They might if they are programmed badly, or hacked into. Digital twins will gobble up(吞噬) mountains of data, some of it wrong or prejudiced and much of it raising concerns about privacy. Yet these risks are not specific to digital twins. They apply to all emerging technologies, as they always have and always will. The emergence of the digital mirror world will doubtless raise new questions, but its potential advantages are already plain to see.
32. What is the main function of a digital twin of a patient
A. To replace the patient in doctor visits.
B. To track the results of physical checkups.
C. To assist doctors in making accurate diagnoses.
D. To store all the patient’s past medical records.
33. Why do researchers at QMUL use computer simulations of hearts
A. Because it can reduce the cost of the operation.
B. Because it is more convenient than using real hearts.
C. Because it can help increase patients’ recovery rates.
D. Because it can avoid the risk of experimenting on real hearts.
34. How does AI contribute to the development of digital twins
A. It creates the basic computer models of physical systems.
B. It offers the ability to forecast and adjust based on new data.
C. It enables the perfect simulation of all physical objects.
D. It tackles the complex problems in the real-world application.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards the digital twins
A. Cautious. B. Indifferent. C. Optimistic. D. Critical.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Walk through any park or glance in a café window, and you’ll see many people staring at screens. Some might be studying, while others seem hard at work. 36 They will either check updates about celebrities or edit photos, post them to gain followers and count views and comments.
It’s no secret that celebrities edit their images before posting. Some go to extreme lengths, making their eyes bigger, their nose smaller and their teeth whiter. It’s so easy for you to get caught up in a whirlwind (旋风) of comparison as you stare at a seemingly perfect figure. 37 No matter how many views or likes you have, if you get trapped in a competitive mindset, it can turn into a bottomless pit because there will always be someone who has received more positive responses.
38 Even if it seems the rest of the world isn’t showing their true selves, you can be different. Make your social media channels a reflection of who you are and what you believe in. Share your real, kind voice with the rest of the world, just as you do at home and with friends.
While maintaining your social contact online, give time and attention to people doing inspiring things, spreading uplifting messages and sharing beautiful ideas. 39
If social media makes you full of self-doubt, pause and step away. You could try doing something creative, maybe writing in a diary, drawing in a sketchbook or painting a picture that will give your mind a different focus. 40 They will remind you there is a wonderful off-screen world in difference.
A. Try to be authentic.
B. Fit yourself into social media.
C. You could also think of fun times spent with net friends.
D. Even better, try spending time with your family or friends.
E. However, most of them will be found going through social media.
F. If someone’s posts make you feel bad about yourself, click unfollow or hide.
G. One minute you feel great about yourself, the next you question your appearance.

Li Ming was a 17-year-old exchange student from China. With a heart full of dreams and a little bit of nervousness, he flew to the United Kingdom to start a new adventure. He had always imagined what it would be like to walk through the historic streets of England and meet people from different parts of the world. But as soon as he arrived at his new school, he felt a little unsure.
In his new class, Li Ming struggled to start conversations with his British classmates. They spoke so quickly and used words and phrases he didn’t understand. When he tried to join their conversations, he felt shy about his accent and worried that he might say something wrong. He also noticed that British students seemed to value their personal space more than he was used to, which made it even harder for him to find the right moment to start a meaningful talk.
Group work was even harder. During a group project in literature class, Li Ming had trouble explaining his ideas clearly, feeling like his ideas were getting lost in translation. And he started to doubt himself.
Social events outside of class were just as difficult. At a school party, Li Ming watched his classmates laugh, dance, and sing along to the latest pop songs. He felt left out, not knowing the songs or the dance moves. He wanted to join the fun, but the fear of looking silly kept him on the sidelines.
One day, the school announced a talent show. Li Ming, who practiced traditional Chinese kung fu, really wanted to try. While he was hesitating, a group of British students interested in cultural performances invited him to join them. Li Ming agreed.
注意 :
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: During their practice, the group was amazed by Li Ming’s Chinese kung fu.

应用文写作Dear Mr. Chuck,
I am writing to sincerely apologize for submitting an AI-generated essay. I now realize that by taking this shortcut, I compromised both my academic integrity and your trust in me. Your emphasis on authentic learning through critical thinking has made me reflect deeply on my actions.
I promise to approach all future assignments with genuine effort and originality. While I understand AI can be a useful tool, I will ensure it serves only as a supplement to my own work, not a replacement.
To make up for this, I will rewrite the essay completely on my own and submit it by next Monday. Though I don't expect a grade reconsideration, I hope this demonstrates my commitment to regaining your trust.
Sincerely,

读后续写
Paragraph 1: During their practice, the group was amazed by Li Ming’s Chinese kung fu.
His every move was full of power and grace, making the British students' eyes sparkling with wonder and admiration They bombarded him with questions about the origin and significance of each gesture . Profoundly encouraged, Li Ming felt his previous hesitation and fear during the social events giving way to increasing determination and expectation about the show. Instead of standing on the sidelines, he featured in the kung fu performance and led the team to win the first prize in the talent show eventually.
Paragraph 2: After the show, Li Ming noticed some changes happening. In literature class, a group invited him to join them and share his perspectives. Nervous as he still was, he was devoted to the project and the discussions with classmates. Gradually, he got used to laughing freely at jokes that he once struggled to understand. In this new adventure, he ended up exploring the historic spots of England with his classmates, encountering folks from worldwide. It was via this unforgettable journey that Li Ming realized what mattered most were courage and confidence, without which he couldn’t be embraced his cultural identity and adapted to new surroundings.

Text 9 W: Hello ladies and gentlemen, today we have invited professor stone to talk about the role of elderly people in our society. Welcome to our show Professor Stone.
M: To begin with I’d like to tell a story from my own life several years ago when my grandparents were well into their eighties. They were no longer able to care for themselves very well. My grandfather was afraid of leaving the only home they had known for the past sixty years. The idea of having to sell their home and move into a retirement home was an extremely painful experience for them. Indeed, old age for them and many older Americans can mean not only the possible failure of one’s health but the loss of identity and self-worth.
W: Yes, it’s true. What do you have to say about the problem of old age
M: many experts have given talks here that have focused on the medical care and the development of public services for senior citizens. Today I’d like to focus my comments on the meaningful roles the elderly can play and should play in our society.
Text 10 W: Talking about personal relationships. Well, I’d naturally think of my relationship with my mother. Whenever I need help, my mother is always there for me. She often tells me that I can be anyone I want, as long as I’m confident of myself. She sees my talent and pushes me to do the best I possibly can. As I was growing up, we were often on the move. I had to admit that moving so often made me feel lonely. But my mother did everything she could to help me feel happy. In fact, so much traveling was really a good thing because it made us close. I respect my mother so much as she never treats me as a child, but as an equal. She gives me the freedom to make mistakes and to learn from them all. Unlike friendships that can fade or break, I know I’ll always be connected to my mother no matter what I face. She is not just a role model, but someone I love.
