The Big Race
“You got this! Keep going!”
The cheering of the crowd filled my mind as I continued to push myself forward. “I can’t 1 now,” I thought. All my hard work came down to this moment.
Before the race, I had spent several months waking up early each morning. The cool air swept through me as I ran out the front door, greeted by the 2 streets. The world became my very own training ground. This time was my favourite time of day.
I was born into a “running family”. My parents have taken part in many marathons (马拉松). My brother has followed in their steps and competes in at least 4 races in a year. Unlike him, I didn’t 3 fall into the running life. I put up a fight.
“Running is the best thing for you. I don’t know how people can 4 it,” my dad questioned during many dinner conversations.
“You would be a fool not to join the track (田径) team, Colleen,” my mom said seriously.
“Of course I will.” I replied impatiently. “What could be more fun than running ”
To my surprise, hundreds of practices and a few track meets later, I found myself in 5 with my parents, as I had come to enjoy running.
Then came the time when my dad asked the big question. “So, the marathon is in November. What are you thinking ”
“Yeah, let’s do it!” The words suddenly came out before I could fully consider the question. I couldn’t 6 him. He had been expecting me to run a marathon with him for years.
At mile marker 20, my legs began to lose feeling. I saw the times on the side and knew that I wouldn’t finish the race in my expected time, a goal that I promised my dad I would reach. Just then I noticed my father looking back and smiling at me. Suddenly, I felt that the goal did not 7 any more. My legs carried me forward with renewed energy.
The finish line was in sight. “There she is!” My dad cheered on.
I crossed the finish line with a sense of 8 . I didn’t reach my goal, but I achieved something more on that morning. I even couldn’t wait to do it again.

The Words That Changed Everything
I still remember the day clearly. It was during 7th grade. Two classes were going to play a game outside our classrooms. I was excited to join, but a classmate refused to let me play on her team.
Her refusal was enough to make someone feel unwanted. One of my friends asked her again and again, but the mean girl did not allow me to play. Back then, at eleven years of age, I did not know that someone’s opinion should not decide my 25 . It was a terrible moment, enough to hurt my heart badly.
26 , this wasn’t the only time I felt that way. Whether at school or home, I always felt down. People often blamed (责备) me for things I didn’t do, and I felt like I was falling behind everyone in every part of life.
However, life took a turn for the better in 9th grade. I accidentally scored high in an English test. My teacher’s surprise was clear, and so was the admiration in her eyes. Her encouragement was the first drop of rain, bringing new hope and life. She liked my work and lifted my 27 with a pat on the shoulder.
That moment had an amazing effect on me—it was a push to keep the same pace (节奏), 28 me to put all my effort to score good in every subject.
My science teacher also played an important role. I remember the exact words: “Seeing such a bright kid makes my heart fill with 29 .”
The encouragement and kindness from my teacher inspired (激励) me to continue working hard.
The feelings with those 30 memories remind me how small words of kindness play a powerful role in our lives. They can cause a complete paradigm shift (范式转变). Now, I didn’t care who looked down on me, or who refused me, I was ready to face the world with confidence.
Over time, writing became my way to express what I felt inside, a way to continue the legacy (精神传承) of my teachers, in 31 kind words. I started writing poems and thoughts about life and the world around me. Each word is a step forward, helping me understand myself better and giving me courage.
Just as that small encouragement changed everything for me, I hope my words will express a message to others: kindness 32 , and small acts of encouragement can change a life.

[2025北京等地·二模]Ever since the famous cubby thing in kindergarten, Summer and I haven’t got along one single bit. We argued over everything ever since then. That’s why what happened last month was so totally surprising.
We were both cast as (扮演) rabbits in our school’s winter play, Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Rabbit. During the first week of 49 , Summer and I did our best to ignore (忽视) each other.
Then, one day during the second week, our director Mr. Jackson said, “Summer and Arizona. I’d like to talk to you privately after practice.”
My heart started beating super fast. I thought about how I’d messed up in the forest dance and forgotten the words. Was I getting 50 out of the play And why did Mr. Jackson want to talk to Summer and me together Was it that obvious we were trying to stand as far apart from each other as possible
My mind was spinning (旋转) with many nervous worries. So when I finally heard what Mr. Jackson had to say after practice, I was completely 51 !
“The two of you are such funny forest rabbits,” he told us. “I’d like you to 52 up and sing the ‘Funny Rabbit’ song all by yourselves.”
“Oh!” Summer said 53 . “Um…”
“Yeah, wow. Um…” I added awkwardly (尴尬地).
“I can tell you’re both a little nervous,” Mr. Jackson said. “And you can certainly say no, but I really think you two could make it!”
We both agreed and I’m glad we did, because you’ll never believe what happened. We ended up having an actual 54 !
And I remembered all those memories about how mean Summer had been. Well, it turned out that Summer remembered all of those 55 too. Only her memories were completely different-I had been the rude and unfriendly one.
We talked about the cubby thing just like a joke and ended up laughing so hard that we could hardly catch our breath!
After weeks of practice, Summer and I really did rock our duet (二重唱), and the audience couldn’t stop laughing.
So, if you let enough time go by, you might realize that cubbies and other things that seem important now really don’t 56 very much in the end.
