Catherine Borowski and her partner Lee Baker are the founders of Graphic Rewilding (再野化), a project to place huge nature-inspired artworks into the urban landscape. "We just want to add the colour and diversity of nature into run-down (破败的)spaces, urging people to notice and find joy in the world around them," says Baker.
Baker, a painter, has long understood the benefits of biophilic (热爱自然的) design. Having suffered a breakdown 10 years ago, Baker found that drawing flowers was the only way to lift his spirit. It was around this time that Baker met Borowski, and joined her production company as a creative director. The pair have worked together ever since, launching Graphic Rewilding in 2021.
Since then, they've decorated many buildings at locations including Earl's Court Underground Station, Lewes Castle and Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherd's Bush—all hand-drawn by Baker. "We love galleries, but we focus on public art. This way, our work is out there for everyone to enjoy," Baker says.
The pair believe that flowers possess strong power, even when they're not real. "We know that spending time in nature is good for us, but studies show that even pictures of plants have a positive effect on the mind," says Baker. He cites the research, which found that images of plants in hospital waiting rooms can help reduce feelings of stress in patients.
Even so, they admit that art is no match; for Mother Nature. "Some people expressed concern that our project might hurt real rewilding efforts. But both can coexist." says Borowski. "Of course, we want more green spaces. But we aren't gardeners. We're artists. In the absence of nature, we want to create inspiring spaces through art."
Overall, the response has been hugely positive. "The joy that these artworks bring is evident," says Borowski, highlighting an early project in Crawley, West Sussex, where they painted on brick walls, billboards, benches and even bins. "There were so many smiling faces," she says. "Putting art into a place that previously felt unloved feels like developing joy where there was none."
24. What does Baker express in the first paragraph
A. Intention of their project. B. Features of their artworks.
C. People's reaction to their project. D. Difficulty in creating their artworks.
25. Why did Baker take to drawing flowers
A. To display them at some exhibitions.
B. To sell them to others and make a living.
C. To recover from his depression and anxiety.
D. To attempt to publish them on social media.
26. Why does Baker mention the research in the fourth paragraph
A. To prove their views. B. To reveal its mistakes.
C. To doubt about its conclusion. D. To improve their drawing skills.
27. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs

The Arctic's extreme cold weather is no match for a polar bear's super fur, which can trap heat efficiently. Humans could one day benefit from a similar material, thanks to a new fiber that copies the bears' hair. A sweater made from the fiber is about one-fifth the thickness of a down coat but similarly warm, according to researchers.
Like polar bears' hair, the fiber's core is filled with thousands of pores (毛孔), which are tiny pockets of air that help prevent heat loss, and surrounded by a flexible, waterproof protector. But unlike hair, the core is built from a man-made material called aerogel (气凝胶).
Aerogels are such light, porous gels that are excellent materials. NASA uses them to separate rocket parts from each other, and they can stand extreme heat. However, aerogels tend to be fragile, preventing their use in the fiber industry or any industry related to clothes or cloth.
To create a much stronger acrogel, materials scientist Andrew Clark from Canada and his colleagues froze a thread of aerogel made from chitosan, a chemical found in a kind of shellfish. Freeze-drying the string and coating it in plastic added strength as they had expected. The resulting fiber can hold up to 500 grams. And it can be weaved (编织), colored and washed. "The fiber's structure falls between plastic and cotton," said Andrew. And according to the study, the fiber maintained its advantages of keeping warm with minimal impact even after repeated 10,000 times of being stretched.
"I think it can be a product for the general public in the near future, in addition to specialized groups, such as the military or space agencies," said Andrew.
28. What is the characteristic of a polar bear's hair
A. It has no ability to reflect heat. B. It can store heat effectively.
C. It mainly contains aerogel. D. It has few tiny pockets.
29. Why is the traditional aerogel unable to be used in the clothing industry
A. The material is rather too expensive.
B. The material is quite difficult to make.
C. The material can be broken or damaged easily.
D. The material can't prevent heat from going out easily.
30. How does Andrew like the product of the new fiber
A. It is promising. B. It is costly. C. It is ordinary. D. It is impractical.
31. Which can summarize the text
A. Breakthrough: polar bears' habitats.
B. New material: a product to stand heat.
C. New fiber: inspired by polar bears' fur.
D. Wonder: answers to the puzzle of polar bears.

Cambodia has expressed its confidence that continued cooperation among all relevant stakeholders (干系人) will ensure the long-term survival and growth of dolphin populations in the Mekong River. The statement came after the number of newborn dolphins increased to nine within the first 11 months of 2024, marking the highest birth rate recorded since 2021.
A newborn calf (幼崽) was discovered by a research team from the Fisheries Administration and World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature's Cambodia office on Nov 8 at Kampi Pool, located in Chroy Banteay village in Cambodia's Kratie Province, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The ministry welcomed the ninth dolphin born in 2024, adding that the newborn dolphin is in good health and is part of a group of two larger dolphins.
Six births were recorded in 2021 but nine dolphins died, the ministry said. In 2022, six dolphins were also born but 11 died. In 2023, eight dolphins were born and five died. By early November in 2024, nine dolphins had been born while only three deaths were recorded.
Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet also welcomed the unheard-of developments of the past four years, bringing the country's total number of freshwater dolphins to 105 as of early November. "This is the result of the dedicated efforts of authorities and the public in biodiversity conservation and the protection of national valuable aquatic resources," he said via social media.
WWF-Cambodia country director Arun Muttreja said that the increase to nine dolphin births in 2024 was due to consistent monitoring by Fisheries Administration researchers and his organization, especially during the dolphin breeding season at the end and beginning of the year.
He added that the survival of dolphin calves is highly dependent on effective protection and monitoring by river guards and the researchers, the community and WWF-Cambodia, which are supported by the agriculture ministry and provincial authorities. Muttreja emphasized that the continued attention of the government, which recognizes dolphins as a living natural ' treasure, is essential.
The ministry and WWF-Cambodia remain dedicated to efforts that include fieldwork and ongoing protection of dolphins by river guards, and the commitment of major stakeholders was also reflected in a recently signed memorandum (备忘录) of understanding between WWF-Cambodia and the ministry. He called for active participation in dolphin protection, particularly from local communities, noting that the conservation of endangered species can only succeed with the involvement of those who live in the dolphin habitats.
32. Why are the numbers mentioned in the third paragraph as for dolphins
A. To show us that new born calves tend to die easily.
B. To warn dolphins are very sensitive to the environment.
C. To indicate that measures to protect dolphins are useful.
D. To imply that there is a balance between deaths and births.
33. What does the underlined word "aquatic" in paragraph 4 mean
A. Relating to air. B. Relating to water.
C. Relating to food. D. Relating to soil.
34. What did Muttreja think is extremely important or absolutely necessary
A. The survival of dolphin calves should be monitored by river guards.
B. Those living in the dolphin habitats should take responsibility for dolphins.
C. Scientists should do more research into dolphins and know their living style.
D. The government should always stress that dolphins are a living natural treasure.
35. Which can serve as the best title for the news report
A. Total number of dolphins in Mekong
B. Dolphin birth rate in Mekong River hits high
C. Participation in dolphin protection in Mekong River
D. Long-term growth of dolphin populations in Mekong River
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Being overly emotional may mean reacting to negative feelings quickly instead of letting your intelligence get involved. Chances are that you are relating to your emotions in a way that isn't always constructive if you feel overly emotional. However, it's vital to listen to your emotions in beneficial ways. Here are approaches to making it.
36 It's important to know what you feel so that you can address each emotion appropriately. Reflect on how your body reacts when you notice an emotion coming through. If you feel anger, for instance, you may start to notice your breathing quickening, your muscles tensing, or your face flushed (脸红的). 37
Interpret each emotion's message. Often, you feel emotions as a communication system. For instance, you may feel anxiety as a way to express fear of something. Emotions can reveal emotional or physical perceived stressors (压力源) that we choose to move toward or away from. 38
Increase your empathy (感同身受). 39 If you find yourself focusing largely on your own emotions, take a step back and notice the emotions of the people around you. Consider their emotional experience and recognize how they feel. Increasing your empathy helps you relate to people more effectively, respect their emotional experience, and take the spotlight off yourself.
Turn to professional aid. Sometimes it's difficult to relate to your emotions positively or you cannot find ways to control your emotions. A therapist (治疗师) can help you deal with your difficult emotions while also providing an opportunity for you to release your emotions in a positive and constructive way. Your therapist should be someone you can trust. 40
A. Release your emotions.
B. Identify your emotions.
C. It is impossible to separate belief from emotion.
D. When your emotions come up, ask them what they are conveying to you.
E. If you're happy, you may notice smiles or feelings of lightness in your limbs.
F. This means observing your emotions less but the emotions of those around you more.
G. He is someone you are comfortable with when sharing personal or embarrassing things.

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
A Japanese company, 56 products are milk and dairy, came up with an innovative way of motivating kids 57 (finish) their milk in bottles at lunch—decorating the bottles with comics.
The producer has been supplying its products to local schools, but in recent years, the company has seen 58 significant drop in the 59 (consume) of milk. According to their research, the majority of high school students (around 65%) didn't finish their milk in bottles at lunch, leading to unnecessary food waste. Not finishing their milk meant they might lack calcium and other valuable nutrients. However, as many parents know, getting teenagers to consume healthy foods isn't always easy. Fortunately, the company came up with an original and fun way to encourage students to finish their milk—comic bottles.
If you're familiar with Japanese pop culture, comics are popular among people of different ages and backgrounds. This widespread appeal inspired the company to use comics as the main attraction for their milk bottles. They cooperated with a comic studio to produce an original and 60 (engage) comic series and had it 61 (print) on their transparent milk bottles. Students could only read the comics after drinking all the contents that are rather 62 (nutrition). The comics are on the bottles in white ink, so they are only visible once the bottles 63 (empty) of milk.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My brother James and I would like to play outside in the wild when we were quite young. About one mile behind our Minnesota farm lay a pond. In summer, my brother and I would run through a stand of oak trees to skip stones (打水漂) there. The pond wore a collar of black mud. It was not a place for swimming, for it was not clean.
In late summer, the pond would be covered by green and bubbly scum (起泡的浮渣). Sometimes a strong, unpleasant smell rose from it. We couldn't stand it so we stayed away.
When winter came, the pond was once again an inviting place. One day when ice covered it. James said to me, "Try walking across the ice."
The ice looked solid. No water showed through it, but I hesitated. "Go ahead," James urged. "Try it. You're lighter than I am. If the ice is capable of supporting you, we can run and slide carefully on it. It'll be fun." I wanted to please James, and I thought about the fun of a long slide on the ice. I began to slide across the pond.
In the middle of the pond, the ice gave way with a sudden crack (裂缝)! I stretched out my arms. The next thing I knew I was hanging on to the edge of a hole in the ice with my arms outstretched on the ice. From my shoulders down, I hung in icy water. I thought of the bottom of the pond. I knew it would be black and awful down there, full of mud and maybe rotting creatures.
I tried to climb out of the hole, but when I got a knee on the ice, it broke like window glass. Again and again I tried to get out. Again and again the ice broke into pieces. The hole widened. I was wearing a coat of heavy material. As it became completely wet, it dragged me down. I was tired of the struggle and rested with my arms stretched out on the ice.
I looked at James on the bank. He seemed rooted to the spot. "I can't get out!" I screamed when I caught some breath.

As for my father, he is a very practical person. My father taught me some skills that I can use in my life, such as driving, fixing my computer and using some household tools. He was always strict with me about tidying my room and washing dishes. Now, as a university student, I could definitely thank him for that useful knowledge. I also want to mention my grandparents. They used to live in the countryside and I love spending summers with them. I remember in the summer of 2000, my grandpa gave me his old bicycle and taught me how to ride it. And my grandma took me to the nearest lake to explain the basic information about swimming. They always have much patience with me, and they often tell me that I can do anything I want to do, as long as I'm confident of myself. All these things are very precious to me.

第一节
One possible version:
February 15th, Saturday Sunny
The other day we had a class meeting to talk about what to do on Saturday. Finally, we reached an agreement and immediately began to make preparations for the afternoon's activities. We designed some leaflets about water conservation and asked an expert to give us a speech.
At 2:00 pm, we went to the neighboring community to hand out the leaflets, calling on people to save water. At around 3 o' clock, the expert we invited made an excellent speech on the current water crisis in the world. He talked about the droughts in some areas and the severe water shortages. The speech appealed to all the people present, including me. After the speech, we had a discussion with our neighbors about various ways of saving water in our daily life.
Today, I have had a better understanding of the importance of saving water and really learned a lot about the methods of saving water.
第二节
One possible version:

Staring at the familiar figure out of sight, I wondered, "Is he running for help, or is he running away and leaving me sinking to the bottom " After what seemed to be centuries of waiting, I was on the edge of collapse. Suddenly, James came back with a branch, which was large, black, and v-shaped. He pushed the branch toward me. I grabbed it immediately and was eventually dragged out of the icy water by James. What a narrow escape! We headed for our home slowly, with water dripping from my clothes.
I wondered how my mother would respond to my terrible experience. The moment I crashed through the kitchen door, sobbing, Mum rushed over. She helped me take off my coat and let me have a quick bath. Then she passed me a cup of milk to warm me up. I tearfully complained to her about all that had happened and James was blamed for getting me involved into such a trouble. His head drooping, James made an apology to me. I was comforted and relieved, but in fact, the pond was still attractive to young James and me, especially when winter came again.
