Participants must bring their own skateboard, helmet(头盔) and knee &elbow pads(护具).

Rock Climbing Camp

As a freshman, I stepped into my first creative writing course by accident, thinking it was a literature class on how to read stories, not how to write them.
When the teacher introduced the course, I realized my mistake. The credits I earned from the course wouldn't count toward my major. By the end of the class, however, I decided that I had to be a part of the course, Perhaps, as a lifelong reader, I was eager to understand how stories worked their magic.
But taking the class would be impossible: I wasn't even on the waitlist. That's when the teacher asked for a volunteer to hand in the first workshop story.
Silence covered the room. No one risked eye contact. Whoever volunteered would have to write a whole story in a week. Perhaps they, like me, had never written one before.
Seizing (抓住) my chance, I raised my hand and asked, “If I go first, will you give me a spot in the class ” He said he would.
So, instead of keeping my head down and avoiding eye contact, I did the opposite.
Years later, I'd completed a degree in creative writing and was working on a novel when a literary agent asked to read the first 50 'pages of my draft (草稿). Bút I wasn't comfortable showing her anything; the novel was far from done.
Throughout graduate school, I'd been advised many times not to contact agents until I have a complete draft. In the meanwhile, I knew the beginning of my story was attractive and that the agent might not remember me after a year.
So, once again, instead of keeping my head down and avoiding eye contact, I did the opposite. I sent her the first three chapters. A month later, she signed me on the strength of those chapters alone. She has since seen me through the publication of three novels.
Determination, focus, perseverance (坚持) — the qualities that I consider important in getting me into Stanford no doubt helped me become the novelist I am today. And yet if I'd only concentrated on the path ahead, I would have missed so many happy accidents, so many beautiful opportunities to look up, raise my hand, and say yes.

There’s an inner desire amongst most people to explore our planet. There’s this sense in modern society that somehow we will find a better existence or we’ll find happiness by going on holiday. I think we’ve almost been conditioned to become tourists, to the extent that a lot of people engage in tourism without actually considering why they’re doing so.
There are plenty of people who will go to the same place every year, because they’re comfortable and familiar with it. People are experiencing less and less the places they are at. They might be there in body, but not necessarily in mind, because a lot of people are constantly thinking: “How am I going to present myself to my social media group back home through my posts on Facebook or Instagram ”
But this is just one side of the problem. On the other side, our travel has taken a toll on the environment. It is reported that the carbon emissions from air travel accounted for 2.5% of global emissions in 2019, and this figure may be three times by 2050.
I admit that there has been a considerable increase in people’s awareness about the environment. And some people say that this can eventually lead to a shift in our behavior as tourists. However, I can’t share their optimism. A lot of research has been done into the extent to which tourists are willing to adapt their behavior. And even those people who regularly consume or behave in an environmentally friendly fashion actually temporarily forget their environmental commitments, and behave like normal tourists. They do suffer some kind of eco-guilt, but nevertheless they continue to travel, and they continue to fly.
I’m old enough to remember when tourism was just the summer holiday, and you would look forward to those two weeks a year when you would go on holiday. It was special and meaningful, but nowadays it is so easy to travel. Travel is now seen as a right, not as a privilege. However, to some extent, I hope there will be a significant rise in the cost of travel, or at least in air travel. In my opinion, only in this way can people realize the value of travel experience and really enjoy it. Also, only in this way can many problems arising with the development of tourism be properly solved.

When Genentech, a highly influential Swedish medical company, got the license for the lung-treating medicine Vixarelimab from another company, Artificial Intelligence (AI) brought an unexpected discovery: the drug could also be effective in treating inflammatory bowel disease. This vividly shows the amazing potential of AI in the field of drug research and development(R&D).
The application of AI in the industry is on an upward tendency. Data (数据) from the Boston Consulting Group shows the number of clinical (临床的) experiments using AI in finding and designing molecules — the key stages of drug R&D — has jumped to 67 in 2023 from only 27 in 2021. AstraZeneca, British drug giant, is a good example of AI’s influence. The company used AI to cut the time for molecule design from years to just months or even weeks. Similarly, London-based GSK has recognized the potential of AI across its entire R&D process.
However, the path to fully integrating AI into medical R&D is anything but even. “There is a data problem, a people problem and a bit of a strategy problem,” said Thomas Clozel, CEO and co-founder of Owkin, a Paris-based company that applies AI to medical research. Acquiring data and AI skills is among the key factors medical companies are facing to unlock the technology’s potential. Clozel noted medical companies’ focus on short-term results and their difficulties in attracting and keeping data scientists influence the industry’s embrace of AI.
To overcome these problems, medical companies are forming partnerships with AI experts to employ AI technology in their operations. Eli Lilly, Moderna, and Sanofi have joined forces with ChatGPT’s developer, OpenAI. Meanwhile, Novartis and Eli Lilly have teamed up with Isomorphic Labs, a company founded and led by Nobel Prize winner Demis Hassabis and owned by Alphabet. While the application of AI in this field is still at its early stage and may take years to fully realize its potential, medical companies are highly keen to improve the long and costly drug-development process with AI, finally leading to more efficient and effective drug discoveries.

I’ll keep your ball for now, hoping to play it with you one day.” Cervantes did buy milk and bread in exchange for his ball and sent him back home. Immediately Cervantes got home, he posted Adler’s story on TikTok. All the viewers were touched by his devotion to his family and expressed their willingness to help the poor family. We are excited to announce that our school will host the “Chinese Traditional Sports Week” to encourage everyone to participate in sports activities. The event will be held from next Monday to Friday on the playground.
During this event, we will introduce a range of traditional Chinese sports, such as martial arts, Dragon and Lion dances, and Jianzi. Through this event, we aim to help promote traditional sports and encourage students to be more active and healthy.
