When Romero first came to China, she was amazed at how big the country is. “And I told myself I should improve my language level quickly,” said the 28-year-old Argentine student, who is studying the Chinese language at Beijing Foreign Studies University. “When I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree (学士学位), my teacher encouraged me to learn the Chinese language in China, where I can experience the culture and know more about the country.”
In recent years, exchanges and cooperation (合作) among universities in both countries have greatly increased, resulting in a significant rise in the number of Argentine students seeking to study Chinese and Chinese students wanting to study Spanish. With a Chinese government scholarship, Romero arrived in China and started her one-year study in September last year. Living and studying in China has been a great experience for her.
“Every day, I spend four to six hours learning and practicing the Chinese language. During weekends or holidays, I usually try to explore more of Beijing and other surrounding cities,” Romero said, explaining that the high-speed railway connecting Beijing and Shanghai has enabled her to have different cultural experiences in China’s south.
“Back in my home country, more Argentine people have become interested in Chinese culture, language and history. At the same time, we have a really big community of Chinese people in our country,” Romero said. According to data, there are more than 4,000 Chinese students in the South American country. The two countries signed a series of cooperation agreements on the development of educational exchanges and scholarship programs, so studying in China has become a popular choice for Argentine youths in recent years.
“With Argentina being part of the Belt and Road Initiative (倡议), China is helping Argentina become more connected to the world,” Romero said. “China is an important economic partner for Argentina. So it is the time now to further improve our relationship.”

Children are more creative when they learn in natural surroundings, according to new research from Curtin University. Primary school students in Australia and England were put to the test to see whether writing poetry in a natural outdoor setting produced more creative outcomes than writing in a classroom, and the answer was yes.
Dr Paul Gardner and Sonja Kuzich from Curtin’s School of Education ran relative trials with 10-year-old students in both countries and the results, recently published in the Cambridge Journal of Education, gave a big thumbs-up to the positive influence of natural settings. “We found that students who had direct contact with nature by immersing (沉浸) themselves in a bush or forest setting were much more descriptive and vivid in the language they used than the classroom-based writers who ‘imagined’ being in nature through photos,” Dr Gardner said.
In total, 97 students took part in the study, divided into four classrooms, including two based at an English primary school and two from a primary school in Western Australia. In each country one class visited a natural bush or forest before writing a poem based on what they saw, smelt and felt. The other class viewed a pile of images of the same bush or forest setting.
Ms Kuzich said the difference in creative language used between the classes was obvious with twice as many UK forest students using figurative (比喻的) language compared with the class-based students. In Australia that figure rose to more than four times when comparing the poetry of the forest-based students with those who remained at school.
The researchers say further studies of larger groups are now recommended to a gain greater understanding of the influence of natural spaces and “green learning” in schools.
28. Why were the students placed outdoors in nature according to the first two paragraphs
A. To get more outdoor exercise.
B. To experience nature in depth.
C. To understand poems about nature better.
D. To prove nature’s effect on creativity.
29. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. The specific steps of the experiment. B. New findings about students’ writing.
C. The steps of training the children. D. The purpose of performing the test.
30. What can we infer about the result of the study
A. Students indoors are not good at poetry.
B. Students in Australia prefer to study poetry.
C. Students are more creative in a natural environment.
D. Students in the UK and Australia have different writing skill preferences.
31. What does the last paragraph imply
A. Green learning is becoming a trend.
B. Further studies are to be carried out.
C. Green learning has been applied in school.
D. Future research is of little significance.
D
First text, then images, now OpenAI has a model for generating (产生) videos.
Recently, the maker of ChatGPT announced Sora, a text-to-video diffusion (扩散) model. As of today, Sora is available to red teamers who work to help companies improve IT security, or experts who test the model for harms and risks. It is also available to a select group or visual artists, designers, and filmmakers to get response on how to advance the model to be most helpful for creative professionals.
OpenAI has been developing generative AI tools at breakneck pace ever since it launched ChatGPT in November, 2022. Since then, we’ve seen the release GPT-4, voice and image prompts (提示), all available through ChatGPT. OpenAI has had a great effect on the AI industry, by enabling companies and developers to create their own generative AI tools. Now, OpenAI is taking a major next step towards advancing AI capabilities with video generation.
There are other video generating models out there, but none that are able to produce realistic, complex videos like the ones Sora creates. Meta has a tool for making short videos, and Google is working on its own text-to-video model, but it’s still in research phase.
With Sora, users can generate videos of up to one minute long, including detailed scenes and multiple characters. The announcement includes a short video following an SUV along a winding mountain road.
Now let’s learn of some safety instructions. Aside from testing the model, OpenAI says its building tools to label Sora-created videos as such, with related guidelines. It is also using existing safety methods that reject harmful text prompts.
Lastly, OpenAI says it will be working with policymakers, educators and artists around the world to understand their concerns and to identify positive use cases for this new technology. The company believes the best way to learn all the beneficial and harmful ways people will use Sora is learning from real-world use, which is a critical element of creating and releasing increasingly safe AI systems over time.
32. What can be inferred about Sora from the second paragraph
A. It was created by ChatGPT.
B. It’s charged for targeted groups to use.
C. It has received good response in the market.
D. It is only open to specific groups of people.
33. What big contribution does OpenAI make in the AI industry
A. There will be no harmful voice and image prompts.
B More different generative AI tools will be developed.
C. People will master AI technology by using ChatGPT quickly.
D. More and more people will become creative professionals.
34. What does the underlined word “phase” mean in paragraph 4
A. Stage. B. Essay. C. Theory. D. Prediction.
35. What will OpenAI do in the future according to the last paragraph
A. Make more limitations for Sora.
B. Analyse policymakers, educators and artists.
C. Include more people in practical use of Sora.
D. Improve the harmful use cases.

It was last summer that Anna reached retirement age and left the job she loved. She spent most of her working life teaching Chinese in a high school. A good teacher must know how to deal with children. She received many honours, including outstanding teachers in the town.
Her husband had passed away earlier and her children are all abroad. She was alone guarding a large house, so her friends advised her to enter a local nursing home. However, she loved being around people and was used to dealing with young people. Fortunately, there stood a library near her home, so she often visited it.
The library is both an invaluable resource and a beautiful space. Anna always appreciates the helpful staff and broad collection of books. “Studying from home gets lonely, so just to be around other people is very helpful,” she told her friends.
However, she still felt that there was room for energy in her heart and always thought about doing something more meaningful.
One day, the sign on the librarian’s desk read: “Readers Wanted for Project Read Aloud.” Anna looked at it as the librarian handed the book that she had chosen.
“What is Project Read Aloud ” Anna asked, bursting (满怀) with curiosity.
“Here’s the brochure about it. There’s a form inside to fill out if you want to become a reader. There is no pay by the way,” the librarian said with a smile.
She loved to sit in one of the reading chairs in the reading room with the smell of books all around her and lose herself in a book. Once home, she sat down to read the brochure, which said, “Project Read Aloud aims to provide the opportunity of hearing stories read aloud in a comfortable setting.” That was a fine goal, she thought.

Schools of Tomorrow in 10 Years
In the next decade, schools will embrace smart technology. Classrooms will have interactive holograms replacing blackboards, while AI tutors provide personalized learning plans. Students may study through VR simulations, exploring ancient Rome or outer space instantly.
Teaching will shift from passive lectures to active exploration. Teachers will guide students in critical thinking and collaboration rather than delivering facts. Online platforms will allow global peer discussions, breaking geographical limits.
While technology brings efficiency, we must ensure it enhances human connection. Face-to-face communication and emotional intelligence remain irreplaceable. If balanced wisely, future schools can nurture both innovation and humanity.
