Ever since my childhood, I have been hearing people talking about Rome. Last month, I finally had the chance to visit it. I spent three busy days there, seeing tourist attractions and walking down streets lit by Christmas decorations. There are so many things I love about the city.
Rome is one of the most ancient cities in the world and is full of wonderful relics from its long past. These include the vast Coliseum (竞技场) where gladiators used to fight each other until death and hunt animals coming from another country. The ruins of buildings and temples are fascinating: you can’t quite believe how old they are.
I studied the masterpieces of the Renaissance at university and was very excited to see them in real life. I walked around the museum in the Vatican and saw plenty of famous sculptures. The best part of the visit was, without doubt, the Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted in the early 16th century by Michelangelo. It was so breathtaking that I couldn’t tear my eyes away from it.
In Rome, there is a lot of food on offer for tourists but some of it isn’t of very good quality. I made an effort to find reliable restaurants to taste the popular meals of the region, like pasta with tomato, onion and bacon. I also loved eating ice cream and hot chocolate under the Christmas lights.
Rome has not only lots of luxury boutiques (精品店) but also plenty of shops that are more in my price range! It was a perfect opportunity to go and buy presents for my family and friends. There was also a Christmas market, where I bought a sparkly decoration for the tree.
4. What does the underlined word “gladiators” mean in the second paragraph
A. Fighters. B. Butchers. C. Soldiers. D. Athletes.
5. Why did the author think the ruins of buildings and temples fascinating
A. They represent Rome’s religion. B. They are well decorated on Christmas.
C. They are relics with a long history. D. They include the famous vast Coliseum.
6. What should you be careful in choosing while visiting Rome
A. The attractions. B. The luxury shops. C. The hotels. D. The food.
7. Where is the text probably taken from
A. A travel diary. B. A realistic novel. C. A news report. D. A science fiction.

Have you ever thought about why malls, restaurants, and even theaters have music Well, to understand this, you simply just look back at how you felt when you heard music in these places. Music is known to improve the mood of people. Often music helps us pay attention to what we are doing. Music helps patients feel good and better.
Depression is a state of mind that most of us experience at some point of time. There are some periods in our life when everything seems difficult. It seems that everything is getting worse and we have no control over our life. Studies have shown that music can be an important mood lifter in such situations. Music also plays a great role in making us feel less nervous or worried. Anxiety can often cause loss of sleep and other illnesses.
Music is often known as an international language. We may not know the language another person is speaking, but most of us respond to music in the same way. Music can often be the best way to connect with someone.
Music is one of the best ways to improve your moods, but this can depend largely on the kind of music you listen to. While happy music can certainly make you feel better, sad music can further lower your spirits. Listening to classical music can often make you feel a lot more powerful, while soft music can be the perfect way to relax at the end of a long day. If you want to use music to change the way how you are feeling, you need to understand the role of it, learn to recognize the kind of music that lifts your mood and helps you feel better. Once you realize the kind of music you can use, you can use it to change the way you feel. The right kind of music can be the perfect way to help us feel happier.

As we live longer and technology continues its rapid development, we can imagine a future where machines will enlarge our human abilities and help us make better life choices, from health to wealth. Through our dialogue and digital pieces, artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能) will understand our life goals and wishes, our duties and limitations. It will help us plan different life events, so we can spend more time enjoying life’s moments.
The ability for AI to understand the complexities and slight differences of human conversation is, however, one hurdle (障碍). There are several thousand known living languages in the world today. Adding to the difficulties are the varied ways words are shared and used across different cultures, including grammar, levels of education and styles of the speakers. Google Duplex, the technology supporting Google Assistant, which places phone calls using a natural-sounding human voice instead of a robotic one, is an early attempt to address such challenges in human communications. But these are just initial whispers in voice of AI’s long journey.
Beyond making reservations and conducting simple dialogues, virtual assistants will need to become far more useful and further fit into the parts of our everyday lives. Not only will they need to foresee what we need before we ask, they also need to understand the context of our conversations and react accordingly. Imagine a snow day when school is canceled for the kids. Knowing that you must now stay at home with your children, your phone would remind you, asking if you’d like your meetings moved to the following day. Alternatively, imagine how much more pleasant your journey home from a business trip would be if your phone could automatically arrange for a ride waiting to pick you up at the airport, based on your travel plan, location, and habits. The possibilities are endless.
12. What do we know about AI
A. It narrows our abilities. B. It limits our better choice.
C. It helps us enjoy life better. D. It doesn’t know our limitations.
13. What makes it hard for AI to understand what humans say
A. Low level of speakers. B. Varieties of languages and cultures.
C. Imperfection of AI. D. Similarities between languages.
14. Which word can best describe the author’s attitude towards AI
A. Supportive. B. Uncaring. C. Worried. D. Doubtful.
15. Which of the following can be the best title of the text
A. AI Will Replace Humans B. AI Will Set Goals for Us
C. AI Will Meet Challenges D. AI Will Be Part of Our Daily Lives

Aunt Evie had a dollhouse. It had many toys there. Every Friday afternoon, I went to Aunt Evie’s home with my parents. The adults would sit around a table in the dining room, eating pie and talking, while I played in the dollhouse for hours.
Sometimes I would pick up these lovely toys and place them in different positions. It was really fun. One time I asked Aunt Evie where she got the toys so that I could buy some, too. To my disappointment, Aunt Evie said that most of them were specially handmade gifts from her friends and couldn’t be bought anywhere. One such toy was a little bear, which was my favorite. It was so beautiful that I wanted to own it badly. “If I take it, Aunt Evie may not notice it. ” I said to myself.
Therefore, on a Friday afternoon, I attempted to take the little bear away from Aunt Evie’s dollhouse. I had to wait until nobody was watching me, ‘and it took me hours to get the courage to put the little bear in my pocket. Once I got the little bear, I couldn’t wait to go home. I had to hide it somewhere at home, so that no one would know I took it. That night after I went home with my parents, I couldn’t go to sleep. “What a bad person I am! I stole something from my loved Aunt Evie.” I thought. When I woke up the next morning, I felt awful, but I couldn’t tell my parents, let alone return the little bear to Aunt Evie. I was embarrassed about my behavior. At some point, I started to hate the little bear and myself. And I knew if I didn’t do something, I wouldn’t get away from those bad feelings.

【答案】Paragraph I:
So I decided to tell my mom what I had done. After I told her all the story, I couldn’t hold back my tears. “I can’t live with myself and what I’ve done, ” I said. My mom shook her head in disappointment. “There’s only one way to make this right. You have to return the little bear and apologize to Aunt Evie, ” she said. Seized with fright, I stood frozen to the spot, thinking Aunt Evie would hate me. Eventually, with my mom’s encouragement, I got up the courage to head for Aunt Evie’s home.
Paragraph 2:
My hand was shaking when I rang the doorbell of Aunt Evie’s house. She unlocked the door, smiled and looked as if she already knew everything. I presented her with the little bear and made my apologies. “I admire your courage to return the bear. I would like to give it to you as a gift for your honesty. You’re always my favorite niece. ”Aunt Evie said. On hearing that, I felt a wave of relief. Mom’s words rang in my ears, “Honesty is the best policy!”
