定义：在复合句中，由一个句子充当表语，这个句子就是表语从句。

什么是表语？

表语是对主语的状态进行描述，说明主语的性质或特征。
表语从句：系动词后的从句。

whether意为“是否”，不充当成分，if不能引导
表语从句。
关系代词：who,whom,whose,which,what,whoever,whatever,whichever...
You are no longer what you used to be.（表语）
你不再是以前那个你。

问题是谁来代替她。
What I want to know is whose bag it is.(定语)
我想知道这是谁的包。
关系代词充当主语，宾语，表语，定语等成分，本身有词义。
疑问副词：where, why, how, when
That’s why he was late.(原因状语)
那就是他迟到的原因。
The problem is how we can find him.(方式状语)
问题是我们怎样才能找到他。
This is where I was born.(地点状语)
这就是我出生的地方。
关系副词在句子中充当状语，有词义。

as if/though意为“好像，似乎”，不充当成分，常用在感官动词sound，look等后面。
because 因为
---She looks very friendly.
---That’s because she pretended to be.
她看起来很友好。
那是因为她假装的。
because引导的表语从句常用句型：
It is(was) because...
This is(was)because...
That is(was) because...
特殊句式
The reason why...is that... “...的原因是因为...”
(主语是reason时只能用that引导)
The reason why she was angry is that he made fun of her.
The reason why she was angry is because he made fun of her.
她生气的原因是因为他取笑她。
特殊句式

It/This/That is why+结果
I’m fat.
It is because I eat too much junk food.(胖的原因)
这是因为我吃了太多垃圾食品。

表语从句的虚拟语气

医生的建议是他应该戒烟。
如果主语是表示建议、命令、要求等，表语从句要用“（should）+do”的虚拟语气。
request要求，requirement要求，suggestion建议，
advice建议，proposal建议，order命令...

as if引导的表语从句如果是虚拟的，则要用虚拟语气。
