Bird-Watching Activity Held to Protect Platalea Minor
Last month, our school organized a meaningful bird-watching activity at Shenzhen Bay to protect the endangered Platalea minor. An expert was invited to introduce this rare species to us.
The Platalea minor has unique black facial skin around its eyes, resembling a “black eye mask”. It is listed as a Class I National Protected Animal in China. Shenzhen Bay is its third-largest wintering site globally. To protect them, the government has set up a Smart Habitat with Intelligent Monitoring Devices to track their movements.
As middle school students, we can also help by avoiding disturbing birds during bird-watching and spreading awareness about their protection.
Let’s work together to save these beautiful birds!
From Li Hua, an 8th grader at Xinhua Middle School
